Copper Top

Nothing to do with the Duracell Bunny or red haired beauties - just a reference to my Whistles copper sequinned jumper.

Whistles Sequin Jumper (old)

I bought this Whistles jumper a couple of years back when I had a friend shopping with me. I liked the jumper but wasn't convinced I was going to get much wear out of it - where do you wear this kind of thing? "On the school run" said my friend. Really? You have to know my friend to understand that mentality - she likes a bit of the ol' sequins and sparkly stuff. I remember when I didn't know her very well and I knocked on her door for some reason and she was all togged up to the nines, skirt and heels, full make up on and tonging her hair to go to ... cake decorating class. So sequins to her are de rigeur where as to me ... they are sequins - the preserve of the night hours.

However, the words did sink in and I took her advice on board and decided that a sequin jumper like this could be worn casually. Consequently I have had more wear out of it than if I had saved it for the night time. I usually like to pair it with my old faithful Primark paisley scarf - the colours work somehow :

And then I stick on a pair of black jeans or black jeggings to create the basic outfit before deciding on the jacket and footwear. Last year, when I went for a spot of afternoon shopping before an early meal out with friends, I paired it with the following :

Topshop Tweed Coat (old)

Belstaff boots.
What a shocker! No boyfriend jeans!

The last time I wore similar, I had a pair of New Look black jeggings on instead. This year, I'm experimenting with the Topshop Jamie black ankle grazer jeans. These are the high waisted ones - so high, I can nearly pull them up to my boobs. So not a good look and no close up picture for your delectation. However, with them being so high, it does have its advantages which is they keep your belly warm, there is no muffin top and there is no inadvertent knicker flashing round the back. They are very stretchy which makes them very comfortable but I still get a bit of that bunching around the knees when they start making their way down. Where they would be ankle grazers on taller people, they are the perfect skinny jean length for me and need no alterations. The Belstaff boots are a semi-smart option of footwear - just dressed enough to look like I tried ... a little.

Switching the coat and footwear changes the feel and you get another outfit.

Back to the boyfriend jeans - we love each other!

I don't think I would look too out of place sipping a mocktail at Harvey Nicks in this? I swapped out the skinny jeans for the old boyfriend style ones as it just made me feel more current and besides I don't like myself in skinny jeans without a pair of calf length boots on to balance out the carrot legs.

I think there are a number of shops who are doing the sequinned jumpers this year - the ones I spotted in Mango are very similar to mine in that they have a sequin front and the jumper itself is quite a fine knit.

Both fab colours for you to dress up or dress down to your hearts content. Now if I was tall and willowy, I would love to wear the black jumper with a long chiffon maxi skirt with a split so you can pull a Brangelina and then finish off with killer boots.

But I'm not. But if I was there'd be no stopping me!

  1. Absolutely on the school run - you've dressed it down to perfection!

Do the sequins drop off though? I had similar (cheap) one a few years back and it was forever shedding the sequins, drove me bonkers!

    1. Not had a single sequin drop off yet. This is it's third winter and it's holding up beautifully. Phew.

  2. Love that jumper. (love Whistles jumpers generally) Hate to tell you Sue, but I can totally relate to your pal who went to cake decorating class with full makeup & hair done. That's me!! Love the styling with the Zara jacket - you definitely wouldn't look out of place in Harvey Nix!

    1. Okay you've just shamed me into getting dressed to take Ben & George to the school disco and make a bit of an effort i.e. I've changed out of the joggy bots and back in to jeans, tied a fetching scarf round my neck and dragged a comb through my hair. Okay I lie about the dragging a comb through my hair. I'll try harder .... tomorrow. Might even try eyeliner!

  3. After years of experimenting with sparkle on clothing (and sometimes shoes), I've pretty much given up. I do still own a Topshop boutique blouse with sequins though, which I have only worn once to a New Year's Eve party (cliched i know).

I'm better off with the odd bracelet, and have taken to borrowing them occasionally from my sisters whenever I feel the magpie urge for shiny things.

    1. If you can't wear sequins on New Years Eve = when can you? Everyone's got their happy medium - I prefer to be more dressed down but everytime I go out, I am so underdressed, it hurts, so now I have a few things which I can pull out just incase. The jumper is a happy compromise for me of dressed up but dressed down.

  4. The Wallis one I got is very similar, although black with gold sequins. You made a good buy there being as this style is still going strong x

    1. Your Wallis one is lovely too. I remember seeing it and thinking ah hah! time for sequins soon. I've not done too bad with this little jumper - it's earning it's keep and cost.

  5. Swit swoo - both looks are fabulous - you're right the scarf is perfect with it...and the Belstaff boots - just awesome! I have a sequin sweatshirt that I got here at Express a couple of years ago - I love it worn casually with jeans or cargo pants - might go and hunt it out this week now:) xx

    1. I'm not really a very sparkly person generally (she says counting too many items with sequins on to justify not being a sparkly person) but every now and then a piece catches my eye like this one and it comes good. I think it's time for you to get your sequin sweatshirt out - it is Christmas! And my - that is a big one you've got! (tree that is).

    1. I certainly didn't go out with the intention of buying a sequinned jumper but it has proven useful - it's the trying but not trying element. I don't think I have much which is lace but I do like the combination as well. The black jeans are my Jack Wills ones. These are from a few years back and they are classified as a skinny fit but when they arrived, they were not the skin tight kind which was okay with me. I didn't wear them much then but have really taken to them this year since I cuffed them and now I can't stop wearing them. Being black - they're proving very versatile with the winter wardrobe. I think their jeans are more "skinny" these days so the fit isn't quite the same.

  7. I really love that jumper. It's so unusual. I'm not a sequin person either but the colours are muted, which makes it elegant. I'm tempted to buy a pair of black Jamie jeans but I'm a pear shaped size 10/12 and worried that they would be unflattering on me.

    1. Hannah, hi. I'm a pear shape too so you're in good company. I've steered clear of Topshop jeans for so long on the grounds they were soooo skinny, I could barely get my foot in them. But I chanced it with these Jamie ones as I needed some black skinnies and they are okay for my needs. I always wear them with something over the top as I can't imagine it's pretty for anyone seeing me from the rear but they are the skinniest ones I've got. From the front, they are a little 70's because they are so high - the really young look ok in them but I prefer to hide my front. The bonus is that because they are so high, they fit around your proper waist which means that the waistband doesn't gape. You can but try ... they do have lots of fits but the washed black pair I got was just the right shade. I never like my jeans looking too new.

  8. The Zara biker jacket looks amazing on you! I'm with you about boyfriend jeans. I'm beyond embarrassed to find out that nearly ALL my photos I'd posted were of my boyfriend jeans. So..I decided to branch out a little this week.

    1. Ooh lovely - some outfit posts from you - I always look forward to those. I think you do wearable fashion really well which I can relate to. I'm getting quite embarrassed that I'm always in boyfriend jeans as well hence I donned some skinnies for a change but I did invest in two pairs of joggers this week. I'm not sure that's a good thing though!

  9. What a gorgeous jumper, you were way ahead of fashion on the sequinned knitwear... both outfits look good but I am particularly in love with the biker and pointy heel look, just fab!

    1. Thank you - I think the biker look is winning definitely. Bikers are definitely a new thing for me but I don't feel bad in this one because of the felt/wool mix which makes it a feel quite smart. You should get one!

    1. Thank you! It's such a fun jacket - totally out of my usual comfort zone but I'm enjoying it. I wouldn't have really picked up on the jacket on the website but I picked it up from Marlenes blog where the photography shows you the jacket much clearer. I literally read the post, clicked the link and hit the pay button. Sooo bad.

    1. The jeans are really comfy aren't they but I guess you can get away with the normal leg length whereas I am on ankle grazers for full length! Do love that maxi skirt though as it has a little drawstring detail. I think it's a very you skirt.

  13. Another lover of the jacket - it's FAB! And the jumper is right up my street…perfect daytime sequins. And I have to say it, I'm LOVING the skinny jeans on you in these last two posts. Avxx

    1. Skinny jeans - aaarghghh. Have to admit the Jamie ones are the nearest I've got to a pair of really good skinnies and I've tried many. It's not that I've not worn skinnies in the past - it's just always with boots and I'm trying to get over my mental carrot leg mentality.

  14. Ilove this jumper. I don't see anything wrong with a bit of sparkle during the day as long as you're not head-to-toe glitter and sequins!

    1. I don't think I would ever subscribe to the school of head to toe sequins and glitter. The sequin jumper is one of the few things I do actually wear ... the rest of the items just glitter prettily in the wardrobe waiting patiently their turn.

  15. I like your sparkly! I have had a few sparkly items in the past but somehow never found the occasion to wear..wearing on a "non-occasion" is just not quite my style.
