Life's Too Short for Boring Clothes ....

Sunday 27 March 2016

Gap Sweatshirt (similar here)
Very Metallic Skirt (similar here in bronze and here in silver which is very wearable)

... and metallic skirts are not just for Christmas right!?

I came across a look on Pinterest which I loved and thought "hey I can do that look" followed by "... if I had the guts". Because I am the proverbial little Miss Wallflower. I do my best not to stand out too much. But I parked the image in my brain and I thought I'd have a little Sunday fun to see what it would look and feel like in real life to wear. And do you know what ... it's more wearable than you think.

My skirt is gold with lots of black in it so it's not too in your face. Tempered down by the grey sweatshirt (the favourite mid grey cashmere crew neck is in the wash) and the Stans, I actually think I can do the school run in this. Do you dare me?

And the image which inspired this?

I think I'm just missing some cherry blossom to finish off the look don't you?

Last Note :

  • Sometimes I have the clothes but I'm too lazy to ramp it up a notch - I really need to break out of this comfort zone every now and then.
  • This Reiss one is gorgeous and in the sale and is a pretty good dupe of the one in the Pinterest pic.

Sporty

Friday 25 March 2016

You've all seen the Chloe image from the runways. Sportswear mixed with florals.

I can't do that. But I can do this.

Much more me :o)

Last Note :

  • And this is pretty rocking too! If you dare.

Quick OOTD : Cargo 21/03/16

Monday 21 March 2016

Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister!
Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister!
Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister!
Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister!

Allsaints are back. Cargos are back. I've got mine. Have you got yours?

-------------------------------

Last Note :

  • Mine are from Forever21 here and a touch greener than showing in the photo. They're 100% cotton and I'm wearing a size 28 which is the correct amount of slouch for a size 10. They're in the sale with limited sizes left now.

Khaki Jacket Love

Sunday 20 March 2016

Primark Utility Jacket (instore & current), Zara Bag, H&M Jeans, Converse

I thought it was time I got myself a utility jacket. It's spring, it's warming up supposedly and I've only been looking for five years. This is the nicest on me that I've found in all that time and it was definitely better on me that the Topshop shackett that I originally had in mind. I tried that on and I looked like a member of Mao's army. I just needed a little red book in my hand and the look would have been Communist perfection ;o)

So I headed off to Primark where I came up trumps with the one I'm wearing now. I tried it on and knew it was just right. I'm not saying it was better made than the Topshop one, it's not, but the styling and the fit was much better for me. It's all relative and personal. And if that sounds like a happy ending, it is, after I trimmed the stray threads and gave it a good press. You don't always get the nice presentation and finish but if you can look at what you can do with a garment - like tidying up the odd thread and trim, you can get some little gems.

A bit of an iron.

Trim a few threads

Halfway through the process ... and finished.

And confession time. A few weeks before I found the utility jacket, I found this camo one too. This one I love with bells on.

Primark Camo Jacket (instore & current), Primark Blouse (instore & current),
New Look Bag (old), Topshop Baxter Jeans, Converse

I also ordered the Topshop camo shackett after I bought this just to compare (need to cover my bases) but again the cut and fit wasn't as flattering as this Primark one. So if you're going down this route this year and you're passing a Primark, have a nosey. You might surprise yourself.

--------------------------------

Other ones worth a look :

1. Marks Spencer Funnel Neck Utility Jacket

This one is a tencel fabric which means it will be a bit soft and flowy and the colour is veering more on the earthy side whereas mine is a strong green. You have to bear in mind what suits your own skin tone. The nipped in waist will add a little extra shape for those who don't like anything too shapeless.

2. Topshop Shackett

I sound like I'm giving this jacket a hard time and I'm not really. I'm just saying it wasn't the one for me this time but I have to say, I'm actually quite impressed with this little jacket. If you can carry it off like the Topshop models and The Style Album girls - brilliant. I couldn't do it justice.

3. Next Khaki Embellished Shirt

Not strictly a jacket but when I've seen it on someone, it's worn as a jacket and I have to say, I like the look. It's definitely worth checking out.

4. Hush Military Jacket

This is probably the lovechild jacket of mine and the Topshop shacket. It has the funnel neck collar of mine but the material is a thicker cotton and it looks to have a little more detailing to add a little interest. I think last year's version was a favourite with many and I've no doubts that this one is going to go the same way.

The camouflage ones seem to be a bit thin on the ground this year ....

1. Topshop Camo Shackett

This is the same shape as the plain Topshop shackett but with a nice soft faded camo print. I did like this but just not as much as the one I decided to go with. I sized down with these shackets so they didn't look so boxy on me.

2. Topshop Camo Printed Shackett

I'm liking the addition of the blue in the print here as it "summerfies" the jacket. Summerfy isn't actually a word but I have a feeling you know what I mean. With blue denim on the cooler summer days - perfect.

3. Zara Flowing Camouflage Jacket.

This is my favourite out of the three. My eye is always drawn to this one when I'm in Zara and if I could justify another camo jacket - this would be the one. This one is also the perfect festival camo jacket.

More Sticky Business

Wednesday 16 March 2016

I spotted the Initial Stickers on Erica Davies' IG feed and then found them in Topshop. Of course I bought them but then I didn't know what to stick them on ....

.... until this week when I found myself the perfect summer bag from Primark. Looks okay eh?

Ikea Dog Bottom Hook :))  Primark Bag (instore), Topshop Initial Stickers

Last Note :

  • The initial stickers stick fine on the raffia bag. Better than I thought actually.

Quick OOTD : 14/03/16 Jail Bird

Monday 14 March 2016

F&F Cardigan, H&M Jersey Shirt, H&M Jeans (old), New Look Bag (old), Converse (similar here)

I did a smash and grab at the supermarket but at £10 for the cardi, it would have been criminal not to. #funnyhaha

Newbies

Wednesday 9 March 2016

This is short and sweet as I have to get back up a ladder to paint before the light goes. A few little neutral newbies have made it into So So Towers just lately and I thought I'd share.

1. Topshop Whipstitch Bag

I have black bags with gold hardware, I have black bags with silver hardware and now I have a black bag with no discernible hardware at all which makes it very useful to pair up with whatever I fancy.  I also know that some of you out there cringe at the thought of mixing your metals so this bag definitely sorts out that dilemma. This is going to be my little summer bag and fits a reasonable size purse in it with a little room to spare. I like the slightly kooky seventies vibe about it but is a bit edgier as it's black and not too neat looking. I'm thinking more Marant lace up detailing than Pocahontas.

2. ASOS Formula Leather Sandals

I always play the "Shall I or Shan't I?" game round about now with sandals. If I leave it too late some of the really good ones will have sold out by the time I've decided that I can't live another day without them. I've had these ASOS sandals in and out of my basket so many times but this time I hit the button as ASOS have 20% off this particular pair at the moment and £20 for these sandals is more than reasonable. I have to say I was super impressed with these when they arrived as they look so much more expensive than their low price point and are real leather. They also do a silver version here if you fancy a lighter more neutral look.

3. Zara Leather Messenger Bag

This almost killed me. I had to wait for my birthday till I could get my mitts on it as my friend was buying it for me. I had to wait a whole week till it was actually in my possession - sometimes a week is a very long time when you want something badly and it doesn't matter at all that I probably won't use it for another two months yet. So as you can tell - I love this little bag. And "little" is the operative word here. It's teeny weeny but it's so cute, I can overlook it's teeny weeny unpracticalness. And the metal hardware - again, it just gives it that little edge. A bit like the Kooples bags (seen here) which I also rather like. Oh and if you don't like the tan/taupe shade, there's also a black and a bluish version to chose from.

So that's it. I'm back up that ladder now. I'm in spring cleaning mode. Sees ya later!

Quick Frill

Look what just landed at ASOS? The prettiest of the frilly numbers I've seen so far. #eatyourheartoutalexa
