Wibble Wobble

Monday 11 May 2015

I decided I wanted a pair of mules in January. Nothing like planning early and if you thought that it would have been mission impossible looking for mules in January, you would have been wrong. I happened to perusing the Next Clearance section and they must have thrown in all their sandals from the summer season in on the day that I was looking. So I ordered four pairs and kept one pair. This pair in fact.

Mine are actually cork wedge heeled mules. I thought they were quite comfortable when I got them but today was the first time I tried to walk outside in them. The first thing that sprung to mind? "We Weebles wobble but we don't fall down".

So they are not the most stable of footwear. They are not footwear to be worn if you have small people under the age of 5 or if there is any requirement to run. Practical they are not. But ... fun they are. And its a different look and sometimes different is good.

Uniqlo Breton, H&M jeans (old), Next Mules (no longer available) but I tried and like these.

As you can see, it was windy today :)

Last Note :

  • The Uniqlo breton is fab value for the money (£12.90) and it's a heavier weight cotton and not too clingy. I sized up to a medium in this one. The one thing to bear in mind is that the boat neck is quite wide. I am thinking of getting one of these to wear with it to make the most of the neckline feature. #saucyminx

  1. They look lovely! I like the washed black jeans - I have an ancient gap pair which look similar. I know what you mean about wobbling (the Weebles made me laugh!) I have a pair of bargainous clog sandals I haven't yet worn but had lots of school runs/walking today so opted for birkies. Tan looks great on you, what is your nail varnish? Great colour.

    1. They were a touch more wobbly than I anticipated so I had to change in to espadrilles to do my errands today. I couldn't risk it. But I do like the way they look so if I'm not going far, I think I can chance these. And the nail polish is a Barry M Hi Shine Gelly one in Chai. I wasn't sure about it on me but it seems to be getting some love out there.

  4. Well we should all own at least one pair of impractical shoes, shouldn't we? I hope so, or I'm in trouble! :-))

  5. I was just looking at a pair with the same shape (fabric upper) from Mango outlet yesterday and decided I couldn't possibly wear them and run after my toddler! Thanks for confirming that, I think I needed to hear it...

I did get a cute flat pair from J Crew though, the abbot slide, so don't feel too bad for this shoeaholic!

    1. Well I like to be honest. And I wouldn't mind but I have another pair of Faith sandals similarish and I wobble on those too so I obviously learnt nada from that.

And the Abbot slides - much more wearable. Cute. Which colour did you go for?

    2. I got the blush. Believe me, as soon as my kid starts preschool i plan on wobbling around with pleasure in clogs, wedges, heels and the like. Wishful thinking but i look forward to that!

  6. Gosh, you find some fabulous stuff in the Next clearance Sue, I should be stalking it a bit more often! It's nice to whip out something with a bit of a heel now and again but in total agreement....no good if ones needs to be able to run around after little ones! Not in the least bit practical! xx

    1. They had a huge drop of sandals at ridiculous prices. Mine were only £14.99 so I thought I could chance them for this summer. Be interesting to see how much wear I get out of them. And yup, I've squirrelled them away till now #secretsquirrel

  7. I have a pair of mules that aren't dissimilar and I find them difficult to walk in as well. It's strange, because you'd imagine the wedge would make it easier, but instead I just feel like I'm on stilts. Loving your pedi!

    1. I think it's because they are a narrow sole underfoot. Take a look at them and compare them to a regular pair of sandals and you will see what I mean - less surface area to plant on the ground.

And thank you about the pedi. I'm about to change colour tonight. Red?

  8. I find anything with that sort of platform bit at the front makes them very hard to walk in and I wear heels every single day.

    1. You've pinpointed it. They are narrow soled at the front but if they had been a little wider, they would have been a little more stable. But not unmanageable. I just need the weather to turn a little better now so I can try again with them.

  9. I like them but I am terrible at falling off shoes like these! So clumsy! Lynne xx

    1. I actually have another pair like this and I didn't wear them for the same reason - I never learn.

  10. They do look comfy though - and I'm in love with uniqlo right now - wonder how long it'll last!

I'll have to add the cat mum version of 'if you have small furry creatures under the age of 15' to this. But seriously, unstable footwear is a risky investment, haha! I recently bought these high platform pumps from primark for gardening and the weight of the soles almost broke my ankles during the work!

    1. I've got a big love in with Uniqlo - I like their simple basics which work so well on so many levels.

And you bought high platform pumps for gardening? That I would like to see!

  11. I am really into tan shoes at the moment, well to be honest they are always a good thing to have around all seasons really. Those Next ones are really lovely just simple and stylish and I guess being cork not too heavy either, I find some wedges are really clumpy?

Hey miss Susie get you with the sexy black lace.....Go girl!! Helen xx

    1. Cognac. I like that description!

That hydrangea is now in a pot. I left it in the border whilst I was waiting for some nice weather (not too windy) to do my plants and thought hey - that makes a pretty picture. All done now and the garden is looking a little more colourful and pretty!

    1. You're right there about the colour of the mules. It's quite a rich tone so it's quite "uplifting". They're very you!
