Shorts, Sports Day & Crafty Stuff

Wednesday, 2 July 2014

Last Thursday, I spent the morning pottering around in my white Uniqlo chino shorts because I thought it would be fun to do so and I also thought if I don't wear them soon, the summer would be over. And at least if you wear white shorts at home - you stand a much better chance of keeping them clean. And then, I pulled out my Uniqlo silk spotty shirt because I was thinking I really should just wear what I like when I like rather than saving it because it's silk. Of course today just happened to be the day I suddenly decided to get to grips with a glue gun for the first time. Don't worry - I put an apron on #sensible

I have to say out of all the shorts that I have - these are possibly the most comfortable I own and they even manage to be flattering despite being white - no mean feat. I'm still not getting on with the white jeans but somehow white shorts don't seem so bad - maybe it's because there isn't as much of them? And as they were so comfortable, I toyed with the idea of buying another few pairs in various colours but came over all sensible and said "I live in the UK - we have bad weather" and didn't hit the button. The silver leather slides? I saw these on Michelle's blog and was quite taken with them. I also think these have a bit of longevity about them as they are a little more elegant than some of the current slides out there and will probably be very useful as a slightly more glam alternative to flip flops on holiday evenings out. My first pair which I ordered in a size 4, came up a little small as my heel seemed to just hang over the back of them so I ordered a size up instead which gives me that little bit extra for when your feet swell in hot weather. It's why they always say buy your shoes at the end of the day when your feet are swollen and warm from a day's stomping to make sure they fit properly and comfortably. Oh and you may or may not have noticed - green polish on toes. This is a bit of new thing for me. I've been experimenting with colours other than grey. And this green is fabulous. H&M Envy. It's like a deep jade and I love it despite it clashing with nearly everything I wear.

Back to the glue gun. Basically, a little while back I was handed a bag of hairclips, some wooden buttons and asked if I could do something with them for the school summer fair. Errr … ????

So I borrowed a glue gun, had a quick rummage through the crafts box and I came up with these instead (because everyone has a few fake orchids hanging around don't they?) :

And just to show willing …. I did some of the clips with buttons. Because not all little girls like orchids and some might actually prefer wooden buttons on lace bows.

And in the afternoon, I changed out of my shorts (which I am thankful I did) and biked it down to  school and was roped in to hold the finishing line at the school sports day.

Zara espadrilles, Gap jumper (old)

And this is where I am thankful that I wore my jeans and that no one had to look at the back of me in shorts for two whole hours :o/

  1. hairclips - will they come into your shop? Gorgeous, and it is so difficult to find something like that on the high street.

    1. I hadn't really thought about doing the hair clips for the shop but it might be an idea - thank you!

  2. I'm like you, anything white around my legs isn't the most flattering thing ever (nor around my face btw, it makes it look yellow/green). But this pair suits you well, and does look comfortable indeed! I would be tempted to get one, if not for the Parisian weather and little use I'd get from it...

    1. Ah you are so sensible. Not like me who bought 5 pairs of shorts for my Greece holiday a couple of years back and probably only wore 2 of them. I really do like these Uniqlo shorts though - so much so, I nearly ordered a khaki pair, a pair of baby blue ones and …. some pink ones! And then I thought better of it. And I'm surprised that you don't suit white around the face - I thought most people did.

  3. OK so you have trumped my shorts post today, you look amazing, just perfect in that outfit but I wouldn't never wear a silk shirt indoors #brave x

    1. Now I didn't know you were doing a shorts post today as well but obviously great minds and all! And as long as I'm cleaning the house, wearing a silk blouse is actually do-able. And when I cook, I just wear something like an old jumper over it for full protection. Works better than an apron and reduces smells lingering on your clothes.

    1. Thanks Jane. The nail colour is lovely but boy does it clash with everything. Which is why I normally wear greige colours - they seem to be so neutral for me.

  5. The Uniqlo shorts look fab Sue!! I shall be seeking them out next time I'm near a store! They look great with the spotted shirt, so I can steal your style once again, I wouldn't have thought to put those 2 bits together so inspired! Glad you persevered with the New Look slides too....I love mine, I couldn't agree more that they are just that bit more elegant, they are a brilliant in between sort of shoe!! xx

    1. They've just gone in the sale and are now only £9.90 but they weren't really very expensive when full price at £12.90. I think a lot of the sizes are just starting to sell out but they have been out for some time now. And the New Look slides - I just liked them better than all the other silver sandals I tried on. The silver leather was not overly shiny - I think they will be something I will drag out year to year - thank you!

  6. Biking is great! I just dragged mine out of storage and I've yet to ride--I could bike to work, but I'm afraid of inattentive drivers. I'm glad you're enjoying biking though.

    1. Well I borrowed a bike from my sis last year but have only just given that back after I was gifted a friend's old bike a month ago. I've been out a few times on it but there was one morning when I came back a hay fevered wreck and I've not been very far in it ever since. I'm just waiting for the pollen count to die down a bit more so I can do some longer rides. Shame about the possibility of "inattentive" drivers - a high vis jacket maybe?

    1. Thanks Frances. I did have jeans on the school run but at home, it was warm and it was just nice to potter around with the legs out.

  8. I wouldn't think of putting the shorts with the shirt but it totally works! I've not thought of Uniqlo for shorts so thanks for the tip off (now I've said that, Summer will come to an abrupt end!!). Clever you with the hair slides, lovely! x

    1. I'm starting to think this is a really weird combo now as everyone seems to think it a little unusual to put the shirt together with the shorts. I thought it was really obvious as the spots are ivory cream as are my shorts so I thought they went together. The Uniqlo shorts are really fab for the money and I don't think they are so dissimilar to the Boden ones which cost a bit more though you do get some more zingy colours with Boden.

  10. Perfect with the dotty shirt - I find that shape short most flattering on my self ( flat front and just the perfect length for us 5ft somethings ) loving the hair slides for L, will they be in your shop? x

    1. You're very right about it being the most flattering length and style for us. I look very dowdy when the shorts are a bit longer on me unless they are a different style of short altogether.

And the hair slides - I'll look in to it. I just did them for the fair and didn't think any more of it.

    1. I read an article about a year back asking what were you saving your best stuff for? Till it goes off? I've been guilty about stuff like that so every now and then, I drag something out and use or wear it. And it feels nice :o)
