Black Friday Update

Wednesday 4 December 2013

Gosh - Wednesday already. Time to tell you what I ordered following on from my Black Friday post. And you know something? You guys know me pretty well though I did try to lead you up the garden path a little. The majority of you went with the New Balance and guess what? You're right!

I think these are just what the Clothes Doctor ordered - a little bit of girly colour to cut a swathe through the ocean of masculine greys and blues which dominate my wardrobe.

I'm also still experimenting with how to wear these and which jeans work best with them. The pic below is me experimenting. These NB's fall in to the "trainers" camp. A whole different shoe game for me. Converse - I classify as sneakers. A different shoe game again but one which I can and am used to playing. I've yet to work out the rules of wearing the NB's ... but I'll get there.

Gap sweatshirt, Zara jeans, New Balance 410s

Oh yes and as to the winner of the competition who guessed I'd ordered the NB's. That will be .....

Hannah

Hannah (who left the helpful comment about the APC sweatshirt) - could you get in touch with me via my email address at the top of the page :o) and we can chat about your prize.

Oh and how did I decide - I wrote the names of everybody who guessed correctly. Wrote a number next to them and asked Ben to shout out a number between x and y.

I am so technical :o)

Last Note :

Sorry Helen - it wasn't the loafers. You can roll your eyes all you like at my choice :o)

    1. I'm kind of pleased I've got them so you can do lots of eye rolling everytime I feature them. I bet you like them really but you don't want to say :o)

  2. OMFG that is so so spooky - I have just done a Christmas list and have put the JCrew NB trainers on my list (which I don't even think you can get any more) Too WEIRD! I think they look fab on you - I actually plan on working out in mine..... Just in case I lose the nerve to wear them. They're my Spring Ambition!!

    1. Are they the peachy/beige ones that they have in their lookbook? I shouldn't have said peachy/beige should I? That's probably killed them for you. You know you're going to have to go to the store so you can hunt them down? You may never come out again .....

    1. They go brilliantly with blue denim, grey and navy. And white/ivory. And then I get stuck. But I don't care :o) because I still like them.

  6. Well that's it then, it clinches it for me. I have to have these. Love love love them. Of course, we're going to have to figure out how to deal with the bare ankles through the winter, but I think we can handle that, no? Oh, also, it's funny to me that you think this is a girlie color. Cause I actually think it's kind of masculine and somber. But that's part of what makes it so damn perfect. Love them!

    1. So you're going for the burgundy? I have to say, the other colours in the same style pale a little in comparison. And I guess I'm saying girlie as they are a berry hue but you're right, they wouldn't look bad on a guy either. Sometimes it's good to have to play the waiting game - yeah?

And cold ankles - yep, we can handle it.

    2. This is the other color I'm looking at:

      http://us.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3315524&SearchQuery=new%20balance&sh=0&pge=1&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Black&xr=1&xmk=na&xr=3&xr=1&xmk=na&xr=3&r=1&mk=na

I honestly wouldn't have glanced twice at it but it was the one they had at my local store so I could try them on for size and once they were on, I actually found them super cute. Pretending to be all serious and black, but with the crazy pop of bright red and teal... I'm totally torn between those and the burgundy. I am a little confused about the sizing on asos though, as I can't seem to match it up to the little label I peeked at while I was in the store. The label listed men's sizes but on asos I think they're showing women's? Any insight?

    3. I'm super confused. I have a pair of UK 5, which is Eu 38 and on the box it states USA 5 1/2 D (D being the width fitting). So I went on the New Balance website and checked their size chart and it's labelling these with men's fittings as this style is unisex. So far so good. I get it. But then when you go on the US ASOS site, they are labelling under US sizes but not indicating whether they are womens or mens sizing that they are using though you would assume womens? That was super unhelpful and even more confusing wasn't it?

But back to this ... I think the black are more you.

    4. Also on the UK ASOS site, they just state the UK sizes which helps enormously. Could you give ASOS a ring or purchase from your local store instead?

    5. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to go to customer service for this one. It seems like asos has just decided on some sizing equivalents, seemingly at random. Not helpful, asos people (you know, in case they're stalking your blog...) You like the black better for me? Ok! For some reason I'm feeling very suggestible right now, so I'm just going to go with black! The easiest would be for husband santa to get them for me here at the local store, but in case some US-based santa decides to get them for me, they're going to have to go through asos, so I've got to go and get that sizing thing sorted out now. Thanks for your help though!

  8. Congrats to Hannah! The colour is great and they look really good with your greys and blues. Gap sweatshirt looks a lot like the H&M one? BTW I got the black H&M angora cardi today - it's fab! Thanks for that too though my wallet does :-)

    1. You got the black H&M angora cardi! Arrrghgh. You torment me. You know I still look out for that every time I go in to an H&M and also online. Which store did you find it in?

And your wallet will get over it :o)

    2. It was online! I'm no where near a store. A case of good fashion Karma, I ordered it full price then they told me it was in fact out of stock sorry etc..and they wouldn't be re-stocking so all I could do was keep checking to see if it popped in from a return which it did last week and this time it was really there. I got a size 10 which is fine on me since I wanted it looser than my other cardis though not too loose. And the sleeves are the exact right length. Hope you find one!

    1. Oky doky. I did try some trainer socks the other day and I could see them and they kill it for me a bit so I'm either going to have to go with the full length H&M (not too skinny) jeans on the days when a pair of socks are needed or I'm just going to have to take it on the chin and brave the cold. We'll take it as it comes :o) and I can always look to see how you're wearing yours.

And I must go and have a look at your review. For some reason, I thought you were a Nike running girl.

  11. Yeah I got it correct! I noticed you had pinned the same girl wearing them as me with the grey coat....fab look. They really suit you and your style, this wine colour is my favourite. Xx

    1. The wine colour is a little bit softer isn't it? It's a bit like when you were doing the Ash trainers and you were trying to get to grips with all the buckles - it was probably a tougher look than you were used to. The wine colour just takes away the hardness of the trainers.

I'll have to see if I can spot you on Pinterest.

  12. NBs! Wow - wouldn't have guessed that. I like the wine colour - I could imagine them looking good with a feminine silhouette (flared skirt and streamlined top + jacket) - styling sneaks is part of the reason I still have succumbed.
