Another Busy Day

Monday 15 July 2013

It started off with a bouncy castle delivery (which went to the wrong house and came back again).

Followed by the emptying of the paddling pool from the weekend (about 50 buckets worth).

Followed by the refilling of said paddling pool (by hose - phew)

Followed by the blowing up of far too many balloons  (feeling rather faint).

Followed by manic pass the parcel wrapping (slapdash but how many 3 to 4 year olds are likely to complain?).

Followed by mini supermarket shop (loved the air con).

In far too hot temperatures of 29 degrees (melt)

Because today was George's 4th Birthday party (though his birthday is not till tomorrow).

And by the time I'd done all that in the blistering heat, I didn't give two hoots what I looked like so I gave in to wearing shorts and flip flops and a vest top for the school run - for the first time ever .... in my life .... outside of the garden ... in the UK. I felt a little self conscious and found myself apologising to a fellow mum for my attire who then asked me where my shorts were from. See! Like I said - no one's really looking at you. Stop being so hard on yourself! And the shorts were from Tesco's circa 2005.

Primark vest, Tesco shorts, Havaianas, Balloons (Poundland)

Anyway, the balloons remind me of the Grump's uncle - a gentleman and scholar with a naughty sense of humour. Whenever he saw a lady of ample busom, he always commented that she had the most beautiful big ..... blue eyes.

We knew what he meant :o)

    1. Don't be silly Kristina - nothing wrong with your legs - I've seen them on your blog and your photos are ten times more clear than mine. Honestly, when it's this hot ... I've just gone with what I need to wear instead of what I should.

    1. No - it's scaring me. I normally only wear shorts on holiday but with the current weather, it really does feel like I'm on my jollies. Running out of nice little dresses!

    1. In a word. Bedlam. But they were all happy and fed. I nearly forgot to do the Pass the Parcel and the birthday cake! Thank goodness it's only once a year. For each.

    1. I think he did and I think he has. It's easy when they're young - everything pleases them at this age. Now when they get to 7 ... that's a different story.

  6. U lady have no reason to not wear shorts!! I mean it, your legs are great!! I think this hot weather will make people stick two fingers up to their (mostly silky) body hang ups, which can only be a good thing!!x

    1. erm that was supposed to be 'mostly silly* hang ups, silky hang ups sound rather raunchy! Oooeerr!

    2. Silky sounded good to me. And yes - the weather is proving "liberating" isn't it? First time ever I'm not too fussed - because I'm too hot to care.

  7. Haha at Trea's comment - I have 'silky' hang ups about my legs too but this weather has been great for forcing them out! Even wore my short shorts yesterday when it was cloudy. I've got so used to them.
Well done on the party - what amazing weather you had. Hope the wee man enjoyed it xx

    1. Good - we're all the same with the hang ups and the shorts are becoming a staple for me too.

I think the wee man enjoyed it. The grown up endured it :o)

  10. I am wearing similar garments most days, I can't cope with more clothing! We all wanted a summer but why so hot? 10 degrees lower would be perfect for my hot flushes!

    1. I know - just a touch cooler would be nice. It's cooler in the evenings but I'm too tired to do all the things I would normally have done in the daytime.

And glad to hear you're wearing pretty similar. Besides, who isn't?

  11. You look great in shorts! Nice color palette too. Very subdued and classy... And I see some nail polish so really you look quite pulled together, no need for excuses!
I wish I could wear short shorts in the city but just the thought of seating in the subway gives me goosebumps. Berk, too dirty!
And even if of all the work seemed quite tedious, I'd love to dip in that pool right now... It's far too hot in Paris too and I'm stuck at work!

    1. I always do nail polish on the toes in the summer. That's my finishing touch. Forget the makeup and anything else - if the toes are done, I'm done. I went for the top because it's loose and the shorts because they are the comfiest and thinnest I have. Needs must. The one thing I have found that works well in this heat is very loose dresses which barely touch your body. Lets all the air waft around :o)

I'd never thought of the practicalities and hygiene problems of wearing shorts on public transport. Now that you mention it - it doesn't sound good at all. And you would look pretty mad and OCD if you were to start laying down plastic bags to sit on.

And you're welcome to join the boys in the pool anytime you like.

  12. It's incredibly hot in Maine, U.S.A right now. I've been in a bathing suit and tunic, as I can't stand being in clothes. Am supposed to go out with some girlfriends tomorrow night. Hopefully will be able to bear some pants (though thinking my James Perse mini might be better).

    1. I wore pants as in trouser pants today for the first time in an age. I've been in dresses and shorts since the heatwave started but switching to linen trousers today has made for a pleasant change.

Hope you had a good night out.
