Sunday Outfit

Sunday 17 February 2013

Quicky post today. I'm off to a lovely kids birthday disco at the village hall shortly.

Gap Perfect Oxford Shirt (old)
H&M Tweed Jacket (old)
H&M Low Skinny Jeans (new)
White Converse (old)
Etienne Aigner Bag (very old)

The kids will be doing Gangnam style. I'll be the one doing the Y.M.C.A.

I'm old school.

  1. Love this. That oxford shirt looks like perfection, and can I just say I was kind of shocked when I scrolled down and saw that the blazer was H&M? I love H&M as much as the next gal, but I never would think they could pull off a tailored piece so damn perfectly. (I suppose that makes me a bit of a snob?) Simple effortless chic. Hope you're out there killing it on the dance floor...

    1. You can be shocked as I was when I saw it lurking on the rails in H&M. It will do me for the time being as I don't wear it that often and it means I haven't spent too much on something which doesn't get a lot of use. I don't expect fantastic tailoring at H&M prices but for what I paid, it's quite a good little jacket. I think I made quite a good choice with this particular jacket because the other colours and fabrics in the same jacket style were terrible and did look a whole lot cheaper but this fabric is quite forgiving.

And I have to say I love my blue Oxford shirt. I was debating should I get the classic white or the lovely blue and the blue won - it's a little more dress down but such a clean blue - I just had to go with it. And it's really soft. They still have it online this year http://www.gap.eu/browse/product.do?cid=57359&vid=1&pid=000890013024

I was too busy eating the kids's party food instead of busting some serious dance moves. It's just what you do as a mum at these do's. If you're planning any kids - you'll get it one day.

    2. Such good stuff. Really. Scores, both of those pieces. I have a light blue oxford shirt from Madewell that I love way more than I ever thought I would even when I bought it. Sometimes with these pieces, once you own them, you see why they're such classics.

    1. Hi Ammu. Oh I had fun. Not. It was carnage as it always is.

I thought the outfit was lacking a little colour and the bag certainly helped lift it with the red.

  3. That's such a cool outfit. There's a mum at the school whose style I always admire and it's just struck me that she dresses very similarly to you (and is probably as petite as you). No wonder I like your blog so much! Have fun at the disco:)

    1. Thanks Helen. I tried it with some black pumps and a black bag and thought I looked too boring and went for the Converse instead and besides they are better protection for the feet when you have small ones trying to dance with you. You'll have to take some covert snaps of the other mum - would love to see.

    1. Thanks Fiona - it's quite wearable and probably most people have something very similar don't they?

  5. Great outfit - love how easy it looks and stylish. I wonder if you could turn up the jeans just enough so they don't touch your Converse to avoid colour transfer? Etienne Aigner - fantastic - oldies are the best! Is it red? If so - snap - my scheduled post also features a red bag + jeans :-)
Yeah I love YMCA too! Hope you all had fab time!

    1. I resolutely refuse to turn up my jeans this time. I took them up to the length that I wanted them to be so my solution is ... wait for it .... buy some dark footwear which won't show dye transfer! Any excuse.

And the Etienne Aigner was my sister's. She's had it since the eighties and when I wanted a red bag, I remembered she had one so I asked and she handed it over. I have nice sisters. Funny how they never want anything of mine though.

    1. Thank you Amber. My cheap little jacket seems to be getting a lot of love. Maybe cheap sometimes is cheerful.

If I didn't have the Etienne Aigner - I would have liked one of the Zatchels saddle bags to pep it up - probably the yellow. I wanted it last year, I want it this year. Maybe I should get it. Let me know how you get on with yours when it arrives.

  8. Hi Sue! Great post, great blog and thanks for the mention a while ago now. I am impressed you are in converse already, our snow has only just gone! Love the jacket; am too surprised that it was H&M. Hope you enjoyed the party! X

    1. Hi Beth! I was in Hunters on Tuesday fighting the snow on the school run. Next day - not a drop and it's been lovely since. I've been so sick of wearing boots that I had to do something like break out the Converse - pumps are just that little bit too cold still.

I enjoyed the party as much as anyone going to the dentist.

    1. Hi Siobhan - thank you for popping past on Joanna's recommendation. She's a sweetie isn't she? Now if anyone rocks - it's Joanna. She makes me feel and look very tame.

    1. Thank you Mandi - that means a lot as I love your blog for the impeccable looks you put together so effortlessly. Did you know you had me on a search for red shoes after seeing your gorgeous red ones worn with your CDG tee. Love that look so much and I am so close yet so far - I am missing a pair of red suede shoes!

  12. Great look as always honey, I'm still on the hunt for a blue shirt but if I can't find the type of 3/4 sleeve jumper I wanted to go over it, no point really. Hope you had fun, I used to hate kids parties, I never should have had 4 kids, used to cost me a fortune!

    1. If it's a navy shirt and you're not fussed about whether it's silk or not, New Look have a similar styled one to the one from Uniqlo but in viscose http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/tops/navy-oversize-roll-sleeve-shirt_266978641 It didn't look too bad when I saw it when I was passing by the shop but I obviously don't need one.

I admit - I'm a bit tired of kids parties - only a few more years to go!

    1. Thank you. It's amazing what you can cobble up sometimes in a flash. The party went as well as a party for 5-7 year olds can go. Loud and riotous. They did have a pinata though instead of a disco ball.

    1. Steph, I have a lot of bad hair days and when I take my own pictures I always end up squinting at the camera and looking bog eyed. Honest truth!

  16. I love this look! I usually wear a teeshirt under a blazer with jeans but I love yours with a shirt. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thank you! I would wear a tee as well if it was warm enough. The weather was just about warm enough for me to go around in just a shirt and jacket but got progressively cooler throughout the week. It was actually a really comfy outfit - will probably do this again ... when it's warmer. Much warmer. It's something like 1 degrees at the moment.

    1. I really don't know. I keep trying to get them mucky but I refuse to go out in wet weather in them as I don't classify ground splash as the distressed effect I was going for. My other pair are looking a little more tired at the end of this week than at the beginning - they've been getting loads of hammer.
