Favourite Friday Flunk - Khaki Utilitarian

Friday 31 August 2012
Today should be a Favourite Friday post but I've still not got my mojo back after the hols so can I just reference one of my Favourite Friday posts instead (a little bit of cheating going on but who's judging)? In one of my Favourite Friday posts about my old Pied a Terre boots not so long ago - I mentioned a nice khaki coloured jumper with a black tie detail from Zara which I thought the boots would go quite well with.  I did actually try the jumper on a little way back and didn't buy it.  Then I went to look for it online and horror of horrors - it had disappeared.  So I did my usual obsessive stalker act around the Leeds stores and eventually one turned up from a stock room. You can run khaki jumper but you can't hide!  I bought it a couple of days before I went on my holidays and I only shook it out of the bag yesterday to "assess" it and to review whether it was still for me.  And then I noticed it had come back online whilst I was putting this post together. Sods Law.

After many unsuccessful contortionist attempts and not getting a single decent shot of the back of the jumper whilst trying to take my own picture in the mirror, I remembered I had Dolly (my dummy) which I could have used.  Doh.

Pied a Terre Old Boots

Gosh - looking at the pictures makes me realise - I'm such a grunge queen aren't I?  But I am happiest when in sludge colours - a bit like a pig in muck.  Actually, looking at the pictures, I look like I should be mucking out pigs in muck.  I just need a padded gilet and a pitchfork and off I go.  Oh dear - I seem to be talking myself out of this one quite rapidly.  I'm not sure if this is a keeper or not especially after that last observation.

Lets try again but with different boots .......

Slightly less farmhand?                                             Belstaff Boots (with heel - gasp)

I loved it when I first tried it on and it kind of goes okay with what I have on but I'm trying to work out if it's just the tie detail at the back which sets this jumper off or anything else?  I quite like the colour too admittedly but my sensible head says the opening at the back could get a little chilly and I know this is a door handle hooker of a jumper.

So I have a little time yet to decide.  If you have any thoughts pass them on and then I'll know if I've cracked this utilitarian look too.  In which case I can put another tick in the fashion box and give myself a pat on the back.  Or if not, a visit to the Army Surplus store may be imminent to see what they have in the way of this year's flak jackets .....

  1. I love the jumper! Zara makes such nice things! I prefer the second look (with Belstaff boots). So, as far as I understood, the back of the jumper is open? and teeshirt underneath? You can maybe also try a snood on top? Asos has some nice collection of them. This one is white and there is also one of nice beige colour, which is cheaper. Photos don't show it, but actually you can wear them as a shawl as they are quite big! I bought one for myself and realised that it could be used as a shawl only when it arrived. 1. Only problem is the snood is so huge - I wouldn't be able to see the bow detail which is the bit I really like. I'm still not sure about snoods as well - I bought a snood scarf from Primark and because I wasn't sure if I liked the way it looked - I ended up unpicking the seam and turning it back in to a scarf.

  2. I have to say I prefer it with the Pied a Terre boots. When I saw your photo, I thought it was really cool and wished that I could rock a look like that. I think it's a keeper.

    1. Any reason why you don't think you can rock a look like that? I think you can.

  3. It is a fabulous jumper Sue...I think it looks great with both styles! If I had to choose between them, the heels would probably win:) Have a lovely weekend.

  4. So Ektarina and Anne are voting for the Belstaffs.
Helen is going for the Pied a Terres.

But no one has said no to the jumper .... we may have a keeper..... yet.

  5. I like that little detail at the back but I would be like you and thinking about drafts? But a t underneath would still show the ribbon. Its a keeper. I cannot get enough the sludge, I am a fellow pig in mud. Love the top boots totally rockermama - but the bottom go best methinks?

    1. I agree - the Belstaffs do seem to go best and take the jumper up a notch but I bet I end up most days in the Pied a Terre stomping boots. They're not favourites for nothing.

  6. Great jumper! I love the little tie neck detail in the back. That olive-y color is just so versatile that you really can't go wrong with either boots. The Pied a Terre ones have a more laidback cool look like I don't give a poop about what anyone else says but I can stomp the heck out of ya! The Belstaff boots add a more refined feel for when you do want people to think you can be a classy lady too. Keep it! Keep it! I have a thing for sludgy colors too!

  7. The safari green shade is so versatile and goes with most colors. Hmm...I'm not sure about the back either. I find that any detailing on the back is lost on winter clothing because there's no way anyone would dare to walk out the door without a coat.

    1. That's partly it - I'm worried about losing the detailing at the back which is the quirky bit. Almost a bit of what's the point if you're not going to see it and when it gets colder, I will spend most of my time with my hair down which will then cover up the bow but thinking about it ... might stop the chill .... arrgh.

  8. I love the colour, shape and front view of the jumper. If it were me, the tie at the back would probably bother me, but only because I think it would itch/ annoy me. It looks good - and unless it bothers you in that way I wouldn't see it as an issue. Draught wise, 'il faut suffrir pour etre belle....' and anyway that's where layering could be your friend... I love your boots -both pairs :-) - but think the Belstaffs (drool) pip the others to the post with this outfit. x

    1. I'd forgotten about my Belstaffs until I did this post as I have them in a box at the very back of the wardrobe. Now they have resurfaced, I might see if I can make them earn their keep this year - I had entertained ebaying them at one point.

Layering may be the way to go with this one as the weather gets colder. Nice to have you back with us girl!

    1. I'm not sure it's called patience - more like down right stubbornness to accept defeat!

  10. I think it is a keeper too - your comment about the door handle made me chuckle - Ive had a few moments like that myself when rushing through a being caught up!! I think it goes well with both, but if I had to choose the Belstaff would edge ahead for me. And just as you have finished one award post Ive sent another your way for your fab blog - versatile blogger award- pop on over to grab the button! Claire X
