A Not So Simple White Shirt

Friday, 1 July 2016

A good white shirt is not that easy to find. I've tried a few times actually and they can be a bit hit and miss. I've had a beautifully soft cotton voile one from Whistles which I let go just recently because I never wore it. It was a touch sheer and a proper pain to iron. I then gave a linen one from Uniqlo a go and that was nice to wear but it was too plain and consequently too boring. I tried again with an H&M one the other year - quite basic but it seemed to do the job but I never felt that that good in it. It was okay but I never reached for it like I do the blue ones in my wardrobe. And then I came across my latest one from H&M. With the sleeve ties.

Man, those sleeve ties do it for me.

They just manage to take my white shirt from boring to soaring. Yay!

Last Note :

  • I'm wearing a size 10 for reference and I am a size 10.
  • The cotton is more like the kind you would find on a man's shirt - so not too sheer.

  1. Love this on you Sue. I have it too and adore it. Detail, it's all in the detail, oh and the cheap price too ;)

    1. Gosh I'm so late on replying! Sorry Sue. But yes, it's a fab shirt - the sleeve details are just perfect for making a white shirt look that little bit less businesslike. It's a good un.

    1. I'd love to wear the long white one that you have but not a chance! I have to stick to what I can get away with and as it is, this is not a bad shirt to be getting away with at all. #notallbad

  3. I love the idea of white shirts, but it's never long before I wear something I eat... although this one is adorable and looks amazing on you x

    1. It's a very unassuming plain shirt apart from the sleeves - but it works somehow. And the fit helps in this case for me. Thank you Ellie! x

    1. Extremely extremely difficult. It's a bit like the perfect pair of jeans, the perfect grey tee - all highly covetable and all hugely elusive!

  5. Lovely white shirt! The tie sleeves are a lovely detail, and it looks gorgeous with the darker jeans.

    1. Thank you. I'm a bit out of love with fashion at the moment so I've been dragging out the same things despite all the nice new things I have. The shirt has a little touch of smartness about it so the darker jeans worked well. x

  6. Great shirt, the oversized styling is fab. I too love the thought of a stylish white shirt but in reality it looks like something I've found stuffed under the sofa but you may have nailed it with this H&M one.

    1. I have another H&M one and I like that one looking not too pristine - like something found stuffed under the sofa ;) but this one is a totally different look altogether - I think H&M did good with this one.

  7. I do love that shirt. I always feel like I'm heading out to an office with a white shirt, but this one is lovely with the different sleeves. Jane X

    1. I know what you mean but having said that, I think this would make the perfect dress down Friday outfit for anybody going in to an office where jeans are allowed. x
