Secret Squirrel

Tuesday, 20 January 2015

Secret squirrel? That's me. I'm a secret squirrel. I squirrel little finds away till it's time to unearth them. I found this blouse whilst I was foraging for a plain tee in Primark for my boy and I was quite drawn to it. Shades of the 70's with the pussy bow, slightly Other Stories in it's print (similar to this) and quite flattering on with those whooshy sleeves. Bingo wings? What bingo wings? Oh those bingo wings under the whooshy sleeves. Can't see them (result).

£5 for a little sale top which I think I can work for the summer. I can see this teamed with a little pair of mini kick flare jeans for summer and a nice little saddle bag. Yes ... I think I'm going to go there with the old flares.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Last Note :

  • Fess up your secret squirrel stash if you dare. I'll start you off ... I confess to also stashing away a pair of tan wedge mules :)

  1. Ok. A short sleeve Breton top and a broderies anglaise flowy number. Both to go with my new Le High Frame Denim flares which I so stupidly pleased with or cut offs in the summer

    1. Is it a Petit Bateau one? And you went for some more denim flares - or did you fancy a different cut from the Marrakesh which you have? I ordered some in the ASOS sale and they were a total bargain but they weren't flattering enough on me to be justifiable. That was hard sending them back but my head was telling me it was the right thing to do. Hope you blog again soon ... I want to see you in your new jeans!

  2. All my xmas presents have been things to be squirreled away: a new mac (swing style, olive color), a bright chartreuse pencil skirt (for summer with a knotted t shirt and flat sandals), two pair of bright shorts (neon yellow and bright blue) and two bathing suits (neon orange bikini and pink/orange stripe one piece).

This says I'm a beach girl stuck in the body of a woman who lives on top of a mountain!

P.S. That top seriously looks like it was made just for you. Get it in every color/combination!

    1. Oh yes ... one of my Christmas presents is waiting for the warmer weather too. I'm a bit of a one to be buying summer things in January or the cold months when no one else is particularly bothered by them. And now that you mention it, I might have added a swimming costume in to the mix too. I have a purely functional black one and though it serves a purpose, sometimes I think I could look a little less practical and austere (I was hoping for chic and ended up boring).

And I think one top is enough ... just a nod to the seventies. I don't need too much - my whole wardrobe is peppered with it.

    1. I've yet to co-ordinate the whole ensemble and the wardrobe for the warmer months. Roll on warmer temperatures and I'll start to get more of a feel for everything. Right now, I have heattech and cosy knits on my brain and body.

  4. Now that's a great find Sue. Shame it's too darn cold to wear it just now. x

  5. Are you kidding?? This is how I justify most of my purchases! The phrase 'I bought [insert random buy]' is almost always followed by 'it'll be so useful for [insert random occasion that never actually comes round]'!! It's a beautiful top. I must get a visit to Primark in asap!

    1. I do that a lot ... but I'm getting better. The only unjustifiables are weddings and parties ... I hate spending money on what seems to be one off occasions.

I bought the top on the grounds that it was also very flattering on and is such a perfect length for doing a small tuck at the front but the rest flows and skims the body really well. I don't do proper tucking very well #scruff

    1. Ah - you still have them - the J Brand's. I do hope you get them out as I'd like to see a few more petite girls wearing them to see how it's done.

And it's good to know you have the odd squirrel moment - life's more fun that way.

  9. Great little blouse Sue - I like the whole seventies vibe - have a couple of pairs of flared jeans stagnating in the bottom of the wardrobe. May follow your lead and get them out this summer! x

    1. Please do - like I was saying to AnnMarie - would be nice to see some more girls giving them a go. I try every year but it would be nice to have some company this year.

  11. The blouse is so cute. And, um....what bingo wings? I doubt you have them, blouse or not. ;)

    1. The blouse has magical properties and banishes bingo wings for the duration that the blouse is worn. Can't get fairer than that can we?

  12. That's very cute! Yes, I do the 'secret squirrel' all the time. Currently the tally is a light grey jacket from Banana Republic & a light fabric navy pinstripe blazer that will both be great in spring and also a navy shell top that I think will look lovely with white cropped trousers this summer. Think that's all for now!!

    1. Ooh Helen - you have done well and I like these touches of navy that you've managed to include in your wardrobe - does that mean the psoriasis is getting better?

    1. Oh no, I totally can't do that. I can't wear something straight away. I wish I could but I'm great for hoarding and looking and smiling at it before I grant it it's first wear. #sad.

  15. Extremely extravagant for me (I live in black and grey) mustard yellow pointy leather flats. Absolutely in love with them!
The top looks fabulous, Sue, very Marni. Would have never guessed it is from where it is! Great find!

  16. But the shoes sound perfect. If you live in grunge land like I do most of the time, sometimes the little mad purchases are the best as they can really lift your spirits and don't you always think they seem to elicit more heartfelt emotion that the regular good basics?

And I'm most pleased that you think that the top is a little Marni'esque. That's made my day.

  17. That top is just beautiful - love the print. I can't squirrel for the life of me - have to wear it straightaway! X
