New Balance CM 620 GB
At the same time that I bought the burgundy New Balance 410's, I spotted these grey New Balance 620's in the local outlet. I ummed and ahhed. Burgundy or grey. Burgundy or grey. Grey or burgundy? Grey or burgundy? Arghghgh! I couldn't choose. So how about both? Yeah, let's take both. That might seem a little greedy but I got the burgundy 410's for a silly price so I felt I could justify the grey.
I bought them and wrapped them and put them under the tree. Merry Christmas to me :o)
And credit to me, I've actually worn them instead of putting them back in their box and saving them for whenever. This is one of my resolutions for 2014. Stop hoarding and start wearing. I'm one of those persons who buys and waits and waits and waits. I know some people who go by the rule of if they haven't worn it within a week, it goes. Not me. I like to do the waiting game and make really sure that I like something. Really really sure.
I have to say I'm not actually sold on trainers with boyfriend jeans on me. They work for a lot of people but I feel too laddish in them worn like that. I do however like them with a slimmer cut jean. And I thought I'd try these with my Next waxed cotton jeans.
Waxed cotton jeans are weird. I like the look but I don't like wearing them. They are cold and slippery. Mine are quite tight (serves me right for over indulging over the festive period) and I also find that when I sit down and cross my legs, my top leg slips off. Anyone else have this problem? And though this pair are actually a great length for tucking in to my Medwinds black boots, they look rubbish full length with the NB's. So I turned them under to get the cropped look I was after.
H&M coat, H&M scarf, Next waxed jeans, New Balance Trainers
I think I actually prefer these over my burgundy ones. Something about the brown black grey combination which is so spot on for me and my wardrobe.
That's what I wore for the school run yesterday morning and afternoon. In between I had some horrid leggings and a bobbly sweatshirt on for doing the decorating. And the day before I also sported blue hair (as seen on instagram) after I leant on a freshly painted wall. Doh!

Last Note :
- The NB 620's I have were bought at a New Balance outlet so they are not current season stock. I believe they are unisex hence the fact that I managed to get such a small fitting pair but all I can find left online are the large sizes in the mens section at Sarenza and mine were half the price of that advertised. If anyone is really interested, send me an email and I can ring my NB outlet to see if they have any sizes you want left.
- For some reason, all the NB's I have tried tend to come up small. It was pure luck that I came across these in a 4.5. I'm taking that as a good sign from the Trainer Gods.
- New Balance is an American English company and manufacturing is done in the US as well as in the UK at Flimby, Cumbria. I kind of like the fact that this pair was was manufactured in the UK - hence the "Made in England" embroidered on the tongue which you don't see on a lot of NB's. A little bit of modern heritage. An oxymoron in a shoe if you like :o)
love this colour combo!!! I got bob the grey/navy ones for his birthday and I've been enviously eyeing them up ever since - might treat myself at the end of Jan :)
ReplyDeleteI can't keep up with all the colour combinations that they have and they all seem to sell out so fast so if you see them and they're in your size - grab them if you can. But yes I do see you in a grey pair. A pale grey pair actually especially moving in to the warmer months.
DeleteI love the grey, I have a pair of grey Nikes and I cannot get enough wear out of them!
ReplyDeleteGrey - they just go with so much in the wardrobe don't they? Black looked really harsh on me so these are a great compromise as a dark piece of footwear. Are you getting any more?
DeleteI'm now even more confused that I was last night. Now you show me grey ones and I love them...sob. I might have to send everything back, have a trainer-free month and start again in February. Ax
ReplyDeleteAww - you can't do that Avril. Maybe you just need to find a grey version of the ones you have? I think it's all in your head that you can't do trainers.
DeleteGreat outfit! Cool as well. I like the leg lengthening colour scheme and these really suit you. I cannot go near trainers, they just look the worst on my feet. I've been lusting after stiletto heels lately....I know, no hope at all for me!
ReplyDeleteThank you SPD. I looked anything but cool in the hours between the school runs though. A veritable sight for sore eyes. And stiletto heels you say? Brave gal. Brave!
DeleteI love the grey version Sue - it feeds my 'grey fettish'! I too would have ummed and ahhed and also put things away until I'm absolutely sure I like something enough to keep. It's also one of my resolutions to stop this and just get on with wearing stuff. I'm also not bothered about boyfriends and trainers -much prefer with a slimmers/skinny jean. I love your waxy number. Seems we have a few things in common - does this alarm you? :)
ReplyDeleteIt does not alarm me in the slightest Jenny :o) And to be honest, we are not alone with this grey fetish? When did grey become the in colour?
DeleteThe Grey NB look absolutely fab on you, I have been thinking about getting a pair of grey trainers as they would just be so useful and now I have seen them on you I am most definitely searching out a pair! I love them with your waxed jeans, it looks great together. If you don't mind I may PM you to see if they have any left in my size? xx
ReplyDeletePM away. I have to say, I've taken to these much more than the burgundy despite the fact that I was so enamoured with the burgundy purely for their colour. I think it's because the jeans I would normally wear with the burgundy ones are feeling a little tight at the moment. But once the Christmas pounds are shed, I'm hoping the burgundy ones get more wear.
DeleteThese look great on you! And those jeans are so sexy! Seriously, a winning outfit for sure. I didn't end up getting any NB in the end (or rather, Santa didn't get them for me), so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that those black ones are still available in my size in store when I get back to Madrid.
ReplyDelete(Did you really wrap them and put them under the tree for yourself? I absolutely love that.)

Bad Santa! He needs sorting out. And are you not home yet? Is that why you were able to enjoy some Everlane goodies? I hope you do a review - even though I can't enjoy them myself, I can through you.
DeleteAnd yup - I did buy myself a present and wrap it up. Are you telling me you have never done that? You haven't lived and besides, you always get a present you like and want :o)
Oh Sue they are gorgeous!! SO chuffed that you got both and I am swelling with pride that you have worn them - you go girl! Love them with the waxed jeans but I know what you mean with the crossed legs...I had the reverse happen yesterday in my pleather leggings - I kept sticking to seats and having to peel myself off..not good. xx
ReplyDeleteYes Joanna. Be proud indeed. I've only had these about 1 month in total in my possession and they have been out of the door. There is hope for me!
DeleteIt's funny how no one mentions these strange little quirks of things such as waxed jeans but I have to say it's slightly better than sticking to seats. Did it make funny little sucky noises as you peeled yourself off?
So cool, love them, want a pair size 6 please! xx
ReplyDeleteSerious? They do have some size 6's in stock. I checked with the outlet today.
DeleteI want those black and gold ones, and your H&M coat is delicious!
ReplyDeleteIn my experience these style trainers tend to skimp on the sole cushioning/arch support (at least from a similar style of Nikes I'd previously owned)--how do the NBs do in that regard?
I think they are black and tan actually. I think the tan lightens the trainer slightly - less harsh - makes them more wearable IMO.
DeleteI can't say I've had that much experience of trainers in general. These are quite comfortable but I have only worn them for short periods of time. Michelle Lee below has the burgundy 410's which I have and she spent a weekend pounding the streets of London in them with no complaints. As for my pair, I have to say, there has been no toe pinching, heel rubbing or anything. So far so good. And as for arch supports and stuff - the honest truth? I haven't the foggiest :o( but everything feels very comfortable which is usually all I ask for in a shoe. And a bit of style.
have you been out in them when the pavements are wet? find my NB very very slippy in damp weather..
ReplyDeleteI've not been out in them when the pavements are wet - only lightly damp and haven't noticed anything. I'm not sure they would hold up well to soggy weather so I don't think I would go out in them if it were raining - it might be a bit foolhardy of me but I'm glad of the warning. Thank you :o)
DeleteI have the slippy leg problem too! X
ReplyDeleteAnnoying isn't it Anna?
DeleteThose grey NB's are looking mighty fine! Some serious trainer envy going on here! Really feeling the trainer love at the mo....so tempted to buy another pair after seeing these on you x
ReplyDeleteBut in what colour Michelle? What colour?
DeleteI love them on you Sue, also loving the skinnies haven't seen you in skinnies for a long time now. I totally agree that they are awkward to wear mine are not comfortable (although that could be more to do with baby bump) and I don't look forward to wearing them even though I love the look of them. I would love the burgundy ones, as I think it's the only trainer colour I'm lacking now.
ReplyDeleteI've been wearing a lot of skinnies - it's skinnies weather at the moment because on a lot of the days, it's also boot weather. And yes, the wax coated skinnies are not quite as I imagined but I also didn't really know what to expect. I couldn't do the pleather so it had to be coated jeans and these are not the stretchiest. Or maybe I just need to stop eating the leftover Christmas goodies.
DeleteSo how many pairs of trainers do you actually have Trea? And I bet you don't have orange ones.
Totally impressed with all your new photos. You actually read my mind. Before hopping over here, I was thinking...I wonder if I could get Sue to model NM trainers for me. So yup, you actually read my mind! I'm still in love with your burgundy 410s. Give me a shout if you ever see them in size UK3.
ReplyDeleteI'll certainly keep an eye out for them but I think the ones I have are at the end of their season now. Not to fret, I'm sure there will be more burgundy pairs to come in the next month or so.
DeleteAnd thanks about the photos. The ones in the mirror aren't that great here but I had really low light conditions to contend with and I wasn't really expecting to come out with any I could actually use. I'm enjoying my new toy. My old camera was on it's last legs and Santa delivered ;o)
They look great on you and yes I have problem with leg slippage too lol x
ReplyDeleteAnother one with leg slippage! Hurrah! Well what I mean is it's not just me who's a fusspot and can't deal with these very important matters ;o)
Deletelove them on you, love the skinnies on you also. tempted ............ I agree with you on the boyfriend/trainer i feel too tomboy, trainer and skinnies or a slimmer cut jean. x
ReplyDeleteYou thinking about them? Any ones which have caught your eye so far? I think most people can do trainers but you have to find the pair that you feel comfortable with and works with your style definitely.
DeleteI think we both know that I haven't fallen for the trainer trend lol! But I did laugh out loud at your knee slipping in your waxed jeans. Totally get that! I got a black pair in Vero Moda during the Autumn which I love, but I also managed to get a pair of dark brown coated skinnies in the Next sale and they feel completely different. They also feel cold? Or is that just me? And yes, in the Next ones, it's pretty much impossible to keep your legs crossed.
ReplyDeleteGood evening Helen! I was wondering if you were going to pop past especially on this trainer post :o)
DeleteI must have the black version of your brown Next coated jeans and they are major slippy aren't they? It's one of the things which puts me off them along with the fact that they're freezing cold. I should have stuck with the M&S ones and I don't think they have those anymore. I should have kept them!!!
Firstly, Happy New Year, a bit belated but I've been on holiday. I'm thinking about new trainers and I like the way these are made in England too. Grey is a good colour too. I know it should be all about the comfort but the colour is all important!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Miss B! And I hear you on the comfort side ... and the style :o)
DeleteHehe, I got the 2 pairs from the NB for Comptoir des Cotonniers collaboration... in grey and black... I also prefer them with slim bottoms... I wore mine to death the first couple of months but now I'm giving them a break.
ReplyDeleteI totally missed out on their collaboration. I always forget to browse CDC but I think they have a much stronger presence in France than they do here. I can only purchase online and that puts me off a little. And whilst you are resting yours, mine are only just coming out!
DeleteLove your new ..new balance shoes.. I am sure you will wear them a lot. I do the same I wait and wait to wear something new ... until I find the perfect combination haha sometimes it takes up to a year. It is that bad?!

No it's not bad - it's totally normal in my world. I have been good though, In the last month, I have worn at least three pairs of shoes which I have stashed away. But it's hard taking them out of their boxes and their tissue paper :o(
DeleteLove this post!
ReplyDeleteI got a pair of navy NB 420s last year for my birthday and I love them. Have seen a chunkier burgundy pair on a few people since then and now want those too... not sure if that is the same version that you are wearing here in grey. The only thing that bugs me about them is that they've got these creases in the fabric around the toe where your foot bends. I know, it's not that noticeable but it's still kind of annoying.
Anyway, have never worn coated jeans like yours so not sure how it is to cross your legs. I do LOVE the trainer trend and really like them with leather (look) trousers. However, the only pair I ever had were also from Next but they split straight up the bum one night so that was rather a disaster. Have been on the look out for a replacement since then but every pair of leather trousers I like are like 700 quid and obviously that is not happening.
To conclude, I hope I look as hot as you do one day when I'm doing school runs.

I've seen Shini in her NB's and hers look a little chunkier - those could be the ones you're referring to and yes, she looks good in them doesn't she? I pinned her on my Pinterest in them (secret stalker alert). I've not noticed any creasing as yet in my NB's but it's early days and if I get them, it will be on the burgundy pair rather than the grey which is a kind of mesh top instead.
DeleteAnd as for the waxy jeans - I'll just have to perch on my chairs rather than crossing my legs as I am liking the look of them with the trainers - they bring me up to date a little. I even jogged a little this morning - about 5 metres. I don't know what came over me!
I adore trainers, but have resisted to date, can't deal with the ankles out in winter! These ones are a great choice!
ReplyDeleteThey look fab on you! I have a cute pair of Adidas but really need a darker pair now! Blue hair?! Lol! I've done that before too! Ax
ReplyDeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteLove this article! I'm looking for either the grey or burgandy pair but can't see to finds size anywhere! Or they are really expensive! Where is the outlet?
Thank you! X
I never wear trainers as I'm so short but the more I see them, the more I really want a pair of new balance ones! Love your blog! x
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, great shoes and great outfit :)
