Dear Santa Grumps .... (Part 1)

Friday, 18 October 2013

Dear Santa Grumps,

I have been a really good girl this year. Points in my favour include ...
  • I've done a bit of real walking in the countryside rather than pounding the pavements of Leeds
  • I made my first apple crumble ever - no mean feat from the woman who can burn water.
  • I've tried to keep my joggy bots wearing to a minimum and in the house.
  • I've not yet succumbed to a fleecy onesie (but by jove, it's getting ever more tempting)
  • I've never once asked you to change the cat lit.
oh yes ...
  • The children haven't disowned me yet and still call me mum.
So please can I put the following on my Christmas handbag wishlist? I also thought now might be a good time to let you know that there may be other wishlists to follow, like footwear wishlists, coat wishlists, jumper wishlists etc. It's only right that you are forewarned.

Starting at the cheaper end of the scale should you be a bit hard up this year, I wouldn't mind one of these classics. It's kind of light and fits a bit of shopping in along with the usual necessities. I was hoping it might make me look a bit more put together than some of my little shopping totes - it might  actually make me look totes amaze!

But if you're feeling a little more flush, I'd love one of the leather versions. A messenger strap wins me over every time because you know how I need to keep my hands free with my two scallywags. It's nice and understated isn't it?

And I also saw this one from Whistles which I am rather taken with. It's like a grown up posh version of my tatty bag and that is looking a little worse for wear these days. Cue violins and much sobbing.

Whistles Duffy bag

... but if you're struggling to track one down as there are none left on the Whistles site or on John Lewis, you could try ringing round the stores? Just thought you could do with a heads up should you have any problems. But if you're really really struggling, you might like to know that I really like the grey version too. Honestly, I don't mind either one :o)

Or if you were thinking of something a shade cheaper - just so you have some money left to fill my lovely Jo Malone leather Christmas stocking, I'm quite partial to these seventies styled bags. I had a play in Jigsaw with it so I can honestly say, I do like this and really appreciate the fact that someone must have heard me moaning about the buckle on my Zatchels bag because they made this one with a magnetic catch.

And this is sweet. Yes it's the Chloe rip-off but honestly, I had my eye on a cream Zatchels saddle bag last year before I gave in to the navy. I had a play with this in the store and it is just perfect and would look so lovely against all the grey jumpers I have. I do love a bit of grey and cream together.

And if money was no object,  I'd like to include this .....

The perfect dark and light bag. Lush beyond lush. Good thing it's not me choosing eh? It's your choice darling Santa Grumps at the end of the day but any of these would be welcomed with open arms ;o)

Anyway, I just thought that would be helpful. Be back with another list soon.

love

Sx

Last Note :

  • The tatty bag is getting very tatty. Time for an upgrade.
  • There might be a part 2. There might not. I'm quite forgetful.
  • You might have noticed that I would like either a black bag or a pale coloured bag. There seems to be a theme here doesn't there?
  • What bag(s) have you got on your Christmas wish list?

  1. Sue - isn't it easier to buy the bag and wrap it for him - then he has all the help required and definitely won't get it wrong?:) Do the leg work for him:) I want a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour thanks.

    1. Yes but I could change my mind so many times between now and Christmas and you of all people know how fickle I am. If he just picks, it's out of my hands and I get what I get. I see I've set my sights considerably lower than you. About £2000 lower. Ouch.

  2. Honestly I have never understood the appeal of that Longchamp pliage. I just don't get it. But then, I had never seen it in leather. Now THAT is something I could get behind. In fact, it might just be my favorite of all the bags you have on this list. Though I'm holding back from my final vote until part 2. Not that you asked for votes ;)

    1. I do like the Longchamps regular ones but the leather is definitely the one to go for - it's a good looking bag. I need something which is going to work with me for the next few years like my grey tatty bag has done. The Chloe Baylee is lovely but being honest, I'd never use it. It's one of those things that you just get out and stroke and then put away again. No use to me really but love the colour combo on it. Part 2. Think that might be footwear. Or it might be outerwear? Or it might be just anything. Who knows? Or the Grumps might say "Enough woman with your mad wants!" and that will knock it on the head :o)

  3. Oh my Sue, you've started your xmas pitch already lol! I have to say I looked at some of the Longchamp bags at the airport recently. The nylon ones serve a purpose but the corners can get destroyed. The leather one I'm struggling to get my head around ever since it launched, honestly. I think I must have some sort of bag fatigue syndrome - never thought I say that - it just doesn't sink in...I have to say I like the look of the Whistles bags but I'm guessing they're going to be pretty heavy even empty?
Good luck and watching this space for more lists :-)

    1. I do actually need to see the black leather Longchamp to work out which size and whether it is actually right. It's the one bag which keeps coming back on my list so I think this is in the lead. And the Whistles ones weren't too heavy - I'm pretty sure I've got heavier bags under the bed somewhere. But they are a good size for all my rubbish. It's all just wishful thinking you know.

  4. Like your thinking! I usually email a list of about ten items to the husband with links to the shop/purchase page included, right down to size/colour etc and just let him pick out of those. It means I truly LOVE every gift he gets me :)

  7. I haven't made a wishlist for the hubby yet but doing it on the blog is a good idea - he can't escape it then surely. The one time I didn't drop any hints years ago I ended up with Alan Titchmarsh's biography - nothing against old Alan just wasn't my thing! I love the cream Reiss bag! :)

  8. oh my, the Whistles Duffy bag! I LOOOOVE it in the grey!

I'm after a new Longchamp le Pliage, too - I like the slate grey colour. I only wish that you could add a strap to the nylon versions. They could add some hooks or holes or something and then maybe sell separate clip on straps? That would be awesome.

    1. Practical says black but fluttery heart says grey. I personally wouldn't be able to choose between the two if you put them both before me. The pale grey one is one you would definitely think twice about before putting it down anywhere. And the Pliages - a messenger strap on one of those regular nylon ones and I would have had one by now. But as it is ... it's a negative against it. The lightness is it's plus.

  9. Love the Pliage in leather.....now that is definitely top of my wish list closely followed by the Reiss Lena!! Off to compile my note to Santa x

  10. Oh u and Kat need to stop showing me bags, I really don't need one saying I'm still carrying around a baby bag with nappies etc and the hubs has it sometimes so it had to be completely neutral and not handbag like at all!

    1. I never carried a nappy bag. I had a black nylon type bag which was pretty unisex so it wasn't the end of the world if the Grumps had to hold it for a second. And I resorted to a little rucksack at one point which was really practical for hanging off a buggy - that should pass the manliness test providing it's not pink (unlikely in your case, yellow maybe).

  13. LOL - what a great idea for a post. Loving the last Chloe one ... don't see the appeal of the Longchamp either I'm afraid ... and since you're asking, I'd like a Mulberry Daria in black please :)

    1. My friend has the Mulberry Daria in black - it's roomy. I think I've even featured her bag on my blog last year when she got it. My problem - the bigger the bag, the more rubbish I stuff in it.

And I don't often make wish lists. You get a wish every Wednesday.

  14. Oh I LOVE LONGCHAMP Le Pliage shopper, kicking myself we used to sell this on our duty free cart at work & I didn't get it! Great bag always admire it when I see it, very useful. Good luck with your Christmas wishes xx

    1. I always used to look at them in the airports and because I could never decide what colour or style I wanted plus it seemed like silly money for a nylon bag, I never got round to getting one but now I'm starting to think it's not that bad. Reading too many blogs warps your perception of the real world you know.

    1. I won't. But keep an eye out for a black one in size large with the shoulder handles for me won't you? Don't want one with pisky little hand handle ones as I will look like a proper madam with one of those in the crook of my arm.

    1. I'm quite lucky in that I am not particularly covetous of designer bags and look more at just what I like hence the fact that I've included Jigsaw and Whistles in here rather than lots of the higher end bags. I am rather partial to a bit of Mulberry I have to say - I just like their designs ... but not their prices.
