  1. Boiled eggs and soldiers?! That's hilarious. Never heard that one either. I'm going to have to stop making these sorts of comments though, you're going to think I grew up all alone in a cave...

    1. It's a classic - honest! It's what people in England sometimes have for breakfast (or lunch in my case) when they are not having cereal or toast.

The yolk has got to be soft and runny though so you can dunk your soldiers (toast sticks spread with butter) in. Try it. I dare you. Oh yes and a little bit of salt and pepper for a bit of additional flavour. Yum.

I love that you make these comments - it's easy to forget that people outside of the UK read my blog sometimes when I just waffle on in my usual manner.

    1. Claire - you are one kinky lady! I never even thought along those lines. Or maybe I'm kinky for thinking you're kinky? Let's not go there. Moving on swiftly, poached eggs are good too but never had them with soldiers.

  4. Mmmm yum - just turned the kids onto boiled eggs - but my DD loves the white and not the yolk - totally wrong in my book. Love the little egg cup - is it Alessi? xx

    1. My Ben was like that - only liked the white and I was there thinking but the yolk is the best bit! Yes, the little egg cup is Alessi. Adorable isn't it?

    1. I'm not sure about every day but every now and then makes them a little simple pleasure. Sometimes, you forget to go back to basics and then you realise how good they are. However, I do not like beans on toast no matter what a simple staple meal this is for so many. I just don't do beans :o(

  6. I have Marmite soldiers, two soft-boiled eggs and cuppa Darjeeling twice a week. It's my one of my few closet Anglophile rituals.

    1. So English! I can't believe you do Marmite! It really is one of those things which divide people. I used to hate Marmite but that's because I was doing it all wrong and putting too much on but once I learnt to spread a lot more thinly, it all came right. And Darjeeling - very gentile - I have a slightly more gutsy Earl Grey. I take Earl Grey with me when I go anywhere as I can't stand builder's tea.

  7. I had two boiled eggs and soldiers last Sat morning, when I was up way earlier than anyone else in the house and it was yum. But sadly, my egg cup is nowhere near as funky as yours!

    1. I bet it was a pleasure to eat your breakfast in peace. I know I love it before the boys come tearing downstairs. I quite often get up early to have a quiet cup of tea by myself. Me time.

  8. Too cute - had 2 for brunch this morning with wholemeal soldiers! My Tween girl and me are the only ones who like Marmite in our house - all the more for us :-) I like to give my kids boiled eggs in the mornings but there's usually not enough time and they sometimes feel it's too much although my youngest happily eats a massive bowl of porridge every school morning.

    1. I have phases with Marmite and I really have to be in the mood. I have a huge jar left over from the Jubilee which I bought just because it had the Union Jack on it. Not touched it yet and don't know when I will as no one else eats it in the house.

Porridge - George goes through bowlfuls of the stuff. Literally.

  12. I've always wanted to get one of these Alessi egg cups! Too cute. Lil L and I always have runny eggs and toast in the morning. Every single morning. We're not really cereal type of people.

    1. His name is Chico. Even though he wears a pink salt and pepper hat. I'm not sure I could do eggs and toast every morning but once a week is good. We on the other hand are cereal and porridge. I've finally given up the love affair with bagels.
