I'm pretending this is a bit D&G.

I was looking for something colourful - I felt that I'd been doing a bit too much of the grey, black and blue thing just recently so I dug deep in the clothes boxes and unearthed this extremely ancient jumper. It's a very old River Island one circa 1980-90's I think. My sister gave it to me last year declaring that it was mine and that I could have it back. Mine? I don't remember this being mine but the more I looked at it, the more it looked like it was something I might have worn way back then. Yes - I used to wear things with print and colour and not just grey.

Very very old skool and 100% cotton.

I tried to make it a bit interesting by pairing with a denim skirt and some ankle boots. I was trying to avoid wearing the beloved boyfriend jeans but somehow in the skirt, I just looked bad ... not quirky or cool - just bad. So I'm afraid, I went back to the jeans. I do actually have more things to wear than boyfriend jeans but I can't seem to break the habit and besides, every magazine at the moment is extolling the virtues of the boyfriend jean and how they are the 'IN' thing. So that's my excuse anyway.

Sleeves rolled up and ready for action.

I somehow managed to persuade the Grumps to go outside with me to take a few shots with a more interesting background than my usual landing. But not before I donned a big parka - don't you know - it's officially freezing out there!

I'm afraid the Grumps didn't take the task at hand very seriously as he pretended to "pap" me whilst I posed infront of the 'interesting' red brick background. The first set - none usuable. So I dragged him out in the cold to do a second round of pictures. We managed the just about passable picture below. I was about to go once more into the breach but decided against as he looked even more grumpy than usual by then and frozen solid.

That's the gently disguised "I am not amused" look.

So no "oooh la la" today. Just a bit of "brrrrrrr - man it's cold".

Last Note :

I saw this on my travels - I'm quite taken with this as a 2012 updated version of my old jumper. And it's black!

I like!

See - I said it was a bit D&G!

    1. I'm not actually sure how I feel about this jumper yet. I love the roses on it but I feel it has a bit of an eighties cut about it so I'm trying to get my head over it. It's survived 15 years, it can survive 15 more.

  2. There's a rose embroidered sweatshirt over at Zara right now too. Though to be honest, I sort of like your white sweater the best. I mean, if you're going to have an 80s/90s floral throwback moment, what better way to do it than with an original, right?

    1. I actually tried the one in Zara on but the fit wasn't quite right on me or I would have been tempted. I guess I do have a genuine vintage piece at least.

    2. Ha! A sweater from the 90's as vintage! Cracking me up!

  3. Very nice, very D&G. I also love the boots and glad to see they're are current - I need some more as my tan Primark ones are not holding up at all well padlling through all this rain!

    1. What are you doing paddling through the rain in your Primark booties? You mad woman. It's welly weather! The Gap boots are really nice though - go on, get a pair.

  4. I'd be checking out the sister's wardrobe, so see what else she 'borrowed' back in the day!! And yes, it's seriously cold right now, brrrrrr

    1. She gave me back a pair of boots which I had no recollection of as well. Hmmm. I think I need to get raiding!

  5. I'm also into the jeans and jumper mode now lol! It's cold enough down south so I shiver to imagine what it must be like for you. I realised that the slouchy jumper look works best for me with jeans or trousers and with skirts, the jumper has to be shorter and slimmer.

    1. I was trying to be kooky and wear a skirt and failed miserably. The jumper would work with a mini skirt but my legs don't work with mini skirts :o(

Officially really cold, wet and wild where we are today.

  6. I can't imagine the jumper with a skirt, much cooler with those jeans, boots and parka xx

  7. Love the parka, ankle boots, boyfriend jeans and jumper outfit. Makes you look super tall which is what every vertically challenged girl wants to be. I still can't quite fathom how to do the bare legs thing in winter. I just about froze when I walked out in flats. I suppose if you're just nipping down a block, it's fine or perhaps cab hopping but I'd probably resemble a popsicle if I spent the entire day out.

    1. You're enjoying rubbing it in that you're taller than me aren't you ever since I said you couldn't build Ikea furniture! I made the Grumps kneel before me to take the pictures to make sure he was taking the pictures upwards for the best slimming effect. Still only managed one half decent picture out of many. Popsicle - you and your funny talk!

  8. Gish, I love that jumper...then I started reading and saw it was old, thus unavailable in stores. :(
I would have loved to have something like it. It's so very now.

    1. Kristina, you wouldn't believe it but I had you in mind when I wore this jumper. You told me to do something different but this was the best I could muster up. I was trying to imagine something you would wear and I came up with this jumper but then thought better than to say "Hey Kristina - I found an old jumper and I thought of you!". And then you say you love it!

  9. Yep I love it too! I hold onto old favs too....think 80/90s counts as "vintage"!!!!!!!yes it's freezing and WET up North.

    1. Yes it's definitely vintage dahling! Oh and finally you concede to it being freezing and wet - I thought you were tougher than that.

    2. I was joking about bare legs in winter....opaques all the way for me, I'm a Southern softie don't forget!

  10. Lovely - nice to see you in all your glory too:) My OH isn't a keen photographer either hence the tripod...will have to move it outside too - though you'll be happy to hear it's freezing in Atlanta too today!

    1. Yay, let's freeze our butts off together then. I have layered up so much today - it's a wonder I can move. And the Grumps has stolen my Brora beanie and wrist warmers! Thankfully for him, they were grey.

  11. If it ain't broke, don't fix it - isn't that what they say? Jeans look fab on you so keep wearing them! Love the jumper, fashion really does go full circle! x

    1. So true about fashions going round in cycles. I read that boyfriend style jeans were back in - last seen in the eighties - a bit like this jumper. I guess that means they were meant to go together then.

  12. I absolutely love this jumper - how lucky that your sister decided to give it back to you! :) lovely parka too, I've been looking for one myself but have yet to find a good (and reasonably priced) one! x

    1. Err my parka was £15 (full price) from Primarni. I think that would fit in the category of reasonably priced to me and you then? Seems like the jumper is garnering some favourable comments - I might wear it again then :o) It would probably go lovely with your Gap boyfriend cords?

  13. Mr Grumps did a good job! I cannot pose for my husband. I always look terrible when he takes the pictures. He takes too long, I cannot hold a pose and always end up irritated by the whole thing.

I love your 1990s River Island jumper - good thing your sister decided to bring it back. Indeed, it reminds me of Dolce and Gabanna's pattern. Also, boyfriend jeans really look great on you. I'd wear them all the time if only I managed to find a pair that looked as good on me. I've tried several pairs at Zara, Monki and H&M but they don't seem to work for me.

Ah, and that jumper you posted at the end of the post is from Anthropologie, isn't it? I remember I saw it in navy blue last time I went there and loved it... but it was too expensive.

    1. Did I just write Dolce & Gabanna?
Sorry, I meant Dolce & Gabbana.
You cannot tell I married to an Italian... I always get confused with their double consonants.

    2. I don't ask Mr Grumps very often - he always has that "oh, if I must" look, followed then by the "my wife's a nutter" look. Be another month before I ask him again :o) The top I found on the Donna Ida site - I've not looked on Anthropologie's site for a little while but I can imagine the navy blue is lovely. Its not the cheapest I have to agree. Half the price and I think it might have been in the bag.
