The culling blogs are working on me. At last. It's all done by osmosis of course. Read enough of them and eventually something will sink in to your subconscious. And even better than that - instead of a one in, one out - I've even managed to do a one in - two out in the shoe department.
Remember the Bensimon pumps? I didn't take to them. Shame - the colour was lovely but they just weren't as "chunky" as the Converse, both of which I'm currently enjoying now that the sun has deigned to beam its sunny beams on us. So I cut my losses and got rid.
Bensimon Pumps - Gone 1!
And the lovely Zara TRF black wedges? I decided they did nothing to flatter the leg when worn with skirts - the top strap was just a little too wide for me and shortened my already short legs which is a good enough reason in itself to get rid. Shame - they were a nice sandal but if they don't flatter, they don't flatter. Yes I like to argue myself into submission.
Zara TRF Wedge Sandals - Gone 2!
So both went to Ebay, the proceeds of which were used to buy the Topshop Newark sandals which have just disappeared off the Topshop site so unfortunately I can't provide a link for anyone. Not as clunky as the Zara sandals, a little bit more feminine but not a million miles different from the Carvela Krimble at the front, after all if the formula isn't broke - let's not make up a new one.
Topshop Newark Sandals (some left in selected stores)
And here I am doing my best prim and proper in the sandals. I have to confess I feel a bit like a kindergarten teacher like this.
Whistles Frill Bib Blouse (old)
Topshop Skirt (old)
Oh that's better - I've loosened up the top button and let my hair down. More me.
Best Victoria Beckham toe point pose
And apparently, I'm in good company - Ms Bosworth has been spotted in a pair of the Newark sandals too.
Kate B looking okay in her sandals.
Did you know that even if you buy these sandals - your legs don't look like KB's? When I spotted the pictures of KB wearing them, I stared and stared at them for ages because if the osmosis is working for me with respects to culling - I thought maybe it could work on me and my legs too. It doesn't ............ I have the legs to prove it.
Haha! It does feel good to get rid of things, because then you can get something you really like!
ReplyDeleteThat's my only justification for these sandals. But I do feel like I've upgraded so that's always good. Shame about my leg not getting a free upgrade at the same time.
DeleteAh if you like Converse, there will be soon a sale of them on secret sales site...mhh, i am not sure I should mention this site here as everyone will subscribe there now and buy all the goodies before I get a moment!!!
ReplyDeleteNo no. I know I'm currently one up on the one in, two out scenario but that doesn't mean I have to make it an equaliser and make it two in, two out!
DeleteLOVE the Topshop sandals!! I bought a really similar pair from Office last year in the sales but after wearing them once found them to be insanely uncomfortable :( maybe I'll swap them for a pair of these... :)
ReplyDeleteOne in, one out for you as well then? They have a padded insole so that helps a lot with the comfort factor. I refuse to buy any shoes these days with soles which are like a flat piece of wood with no bend in them and when you walk, your feet go slap slap slap on the pavement. And one of the first things I did was use a shoe stretcher on them to make sure they were not tight across the toes and and sides so I didn't have the equivalent of muffin sqidge feet (you know what I mean).
DeleteAh, sort of wish I had bought the topshop sandals now, as I watched them for many weeks, but decided I couldn't excuse them after receiving some APC sandals as a gift - which went on to crucify my toes. But such is life with footwear!
ReplyDeleteThe outfit isn't too prim at all - and the sandals look great styled this way. Such a pretty blouse too. I wish that I had your luck locating decent length skirts!
Currently worried about winter footwear. My summer choices are complete, but we do spend more months sloshing through rain and gales here, so the poor sandals will have to retire eventually. I have some decent leather ankle boots, but that's it. Wish I could find some casual patent court shoes with a mid block heel and pointed toe. Almost impossible unless I opt for stiletto.
I saw the APC sandals on you - they look lovely but sound evil. The skirt is an old favourite - I shortened it last year to what I thought was a more flattering length - it might be worth you doing that - getting hold of a seamstress to tailor some of your clothes? I'm used to doing it just because I'm short so everything is too long.
DeleteOkay - you set the challenge and made it difficult by wanting pointy with blocky and patent! Are you sure a soft rounded square toe would not be easier to wear? I've found this pair but the heel may not be blocky enough and sizes are limited:

The next 3 have hints of the Roger Vivier with a buckle detail but still really nice. They caught my eye as I can see you wearing this kind of shoe. I've taken quite a fancy to the LK Bennetts whilst doing this little search.

Let me know how you get on.
I'm loving your new sandals. Its difficult to figure out what works for each of us. I often see Kate in items that I like and buy and am perplexed why my legs don't look like hers! I've finally realized its not the item but her legs that look fabulous!

Oh tell me about it. I loved the sandals as soon as I saw them but then found them challenging to wear with nearly every single skirt/dress item I had and it's all to do with the legs. It's amazing how if you have great legs, you can wear any shoe. If you deviate a little from the Kate Bosworth school of legs, it all starts going a bit weird.
DeleteI like your Marant wood heel sandals - they're one of the few pairs of "heels" I think I could totter around in. Why is it when you dress down, you still look dressed up and when I do dress down, I do slob (ask Grumps - he can vouch for my dressed down look)?
LOL! Sue, I've spent inordinate amount of time staring at KB's legs too!! I really like the Topshop sandals on you. Wish they do smaller sizes. Mind you, this lady just looks good with everything. I like that she's wearing more and more practical heels - something I can relate to.
ReplyDeleteShe looks great in your See by Chloe sandals. KB does have a great style - I just hadn't realised that she was popping up all over my blog and then I thought oh no, now that I sound like a weirdo KB fan.
DeleteI really feel for you with the small shoe thing. But you seem to be getting by ... your Repetto collection is breeding like rabbits! And you have added two enviable pair of sandals to your collection this year!
You look lovely. There's nothing Kindergarden teacher about your look. The sandals are very cute.
ReplyDeleteLindsay, apologies for the late reply as I've been on my holidays but it's been nice to get back and catch up with what's been going on with the blogging world.
DeleteThank you for the compliment - I have to get my head around "dressing up" sometimes and unless I'm in a pair of jeans I often feel a bit awkward doing a "pretty" look in a skirt or dress. I'm really liking the sandals but still not had time to take them out for a spin - the proof of how nice they really are is how comfortable they also are. Fingers crossed they pass the test.
