Red & Orange

Gucci 2015/16  (Source)

I'd like to say that I was being terribly fashionable, bang on trend and going with the Gucci 2015/16 vibe of red and orange but I really can't lie. It was a .... coincidence.

H&M Blouse, H&M Skirt, Susie Ho Beachcomber Necklace, Jamin Puech Bag

I've noticed that across various blogs over the last couple of years, everyone seems to be denouncing colour and saying that it's not their thing anymore. Fair enough, I put my hand up to that and my wardrobe is a bit of a shrine to the classic palettes of blues, greys and blacks but I think it's important to keep it in perspective and that sometimes you need to liven things up a bit. I've taken it to the extreme here with my colour combo but it kind of grabbed me and sometimes it's good to go with the flow.

Basically, I had a christening to go to the other week. I had an old dress which I've worn for numerous weddings and the odd christening but I frankly, I was bored with it. I also didn't want to spend a lot on something that I wasn't going to wear again. So whilst having a wander through the shops, I spotted this rusty red coloured blouse in H&M. I loved the shade, it still erred on the dark side and it had nice detailing on the collar and the shoulders. I also spotted the pumpkin coloured skirt there too. That is the best description I can come up for this skirt - pumpkin.

In my eyes, it worked and I chose to go a little more eclectic with the look with the Swedish Hasbeens and the slightly boho necklace which is one of my designs, available here. I could have put on black suede pointy toe pumps for a more pulled together but the Hasbeens felt more me and I wanted to be comfortable so I plumped for blocky heels.

Remember I said I didn't want something that I wasn't likely to wear again? Well, the blouse and the skirt are good standalone items which can be worn in a variety of ways.

The red blouse I bought in a size 12. The size 10 fitted too but as there wasn't much in it, I bought it in a 12 to allow for a little shrinkage as this sometimes happens with viscose items. I've not strayed too far from my usual wardrobe items and paired it with black jeans, tan boots and the guitar strap bag I picked up from Primark in a previous post.

The pumpkin skirt? This too is actually quite wearable during the day when teamed with a sweatshirt and some Cons. Only snag? No pockets. (insert sad face emoji here).

So I don't think I did too bad there to cobble up an outfit for £25 (£14.99 for the blouse, £10 for the skirt) excluding accessories, do you? #win

I thought I'd stop faffing and re-open my little online shop again as I've had a lot of queries. Please feel free to take a browse here or in the link at the top of the page where it says Susie Ho Shop.

Anyway, I leave you with the unofficial pic. George and I throwing some fashion shapes!

    1. Ha - I wish the hubs thought the same. He kind of looked me up and down and I knew he didn't like it. I wore it anyway - I just went with the gut feel and I wanted something different from the usual. The blouse is quite a wearable red - not scarlet which screams a bit but much more muted - very autumnal :)

  2. That's actually a really nice combination, I'd never would have thought of that myself! I have a pair of wine chinos from last year and have recently bought a coral cashmere sweater on sale online, and now I think they would be perfect together :)

    1. It's quite a bright combination but because both colours are at the slightly more muted end of the scale, I felt a little more comfortable wearing it. Let me know how you get one with your combo!

  3. Loving your work here Sue....that really is a terrific colour combo! These Autumnal hues really suit you! The blouse is gorg.....and I love seeing you in a skirt! The Hasbeens are the perfect touch to give it that boho vibe! Both pieces are going to be 2 very useful wardrobe additions! Love, love, love this post! :0) xx

    1. I'll definitely get wear out of the blouse - the skirt challenges me a little more just simply because it's a skirt. And the Hasbeens - I still love those a lot. I need more shoes like this!

  4. I love that colour combination, it looks really, really good. I've had a little peek at your shop too, you have some really lovely items, come payday I think I could be revisiting!

    1. Thank you! You visit the shop anytime you like. And the colour combo is probably not for the faint hearted but for some reason, I felt okay in it. Hubs didn't think much of it but he's used to me in a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans!

  5. You look lovely! I really like the toning (is that the right word?) colours, I often think wearing similar colours together can be an easier and slightly softer way to wear colour. I love it with the tan colour on the hasbeens too. And what is that lovely bag you are sporting? Dressed up but not too formal - perfect.

    1. The colours are strong but quite tonal - you're right. It's not like a colour block of yellow and red together which is another thing altogether. The bag is an old Jamin Puech one - not a very well known brand but one I quite liked a few years back. Their designs verge on wacky sometimes but this one is quite an understated one.

  6. Ha ha, George is really channelling Saturday Night Fever there, isn't he? I really like that burgundy colour on you, it's not wildly in-your-face bright, but it's quite a dramatic look (in a low-key way, if that even makes sense??!) with the bright skirt. This post reminded me of that lovely raspberry coloured sweatshirt you have - I think those darker red shades are perfect for you! xx

    1. I think I suit red shades - it is a colour that I have in my wardrobe actually which quite surprised me. This is more a rusty shade so not as in your face as the Maje sweatshirt which is really quite bright in real life. You can't miss me in that one.

  7. They're both such great buys and look perfect together too. The blouse is very you! I love colour and it's lovely to continue to wear it through autumn and winter when so many people default back to black, navy and grey. Gorgeous! Lynne xx

    1. The blouse is very me and they have it in some lovely colour ways but I thought I'd go with the red this time - the colour really got me. I think it will be lovely with camel and grey shades too.

  8. Love the colour of the blouse. Why is it I can't ever seem to find anything in H&M (insert 'martyr face' emoji!)? We don't have the online facility in Ireland (which is just daft!) and whenever I'm in store I am just overwhelmed and have to leave! Great buy for £25!

    1. I actually do really well with H&M and yet a few years back, I never thought to go in. I realise I spend more money in there than Zara - I find better good quality basics there but you do have to put in a bit of legwork which I don't think you'd enjoy. Me - I've always enjoyed having a look around.
