It's only Rock 'n' Roll! in a Zara TRF Biker Jacket

Saturday 13 October 2012

-------------------------------------

I've never had a biker jacket before complete with flappy bits and zips and stuff. However, I have had in the past, a snakeskin leather jacket so there's a little bit of rock chick lurking in me somewhere really deep down. I first saw this Zara TRF jacket on Marlenes Wedding Outfits post. It is also modelled considerably better, clearer and more imaginatively on Marlene than on the Zara website. The jacket was love at first sight of blog post for me. The love was further sealed by the bargain price of £59.99 for something so fashion forward. I didn't even think before I hit the pay button and then I went "Oh drat!  I've just ordered a biker jacket. I don't wear biker jackets - what am I doing???? Silly silly woman - you will just have to return it!" The dangers of blog reading!!!  Be warned.

And then it arrived - I wasn't even that excited because I'd resigned myself to the fact that I'd had a moment of spontaneous rock chick madness and this wasn't going to work for me. I unwrapped it and looked at it and thought, it's nice and then went back to having my lunch. A little later, I finally got round to the task in hand of trying the jacket on. BOOM!  Inner Rock Goddess gene unleashed big time! The sunglasses went on, the hair got a little bit more ruffled, sultry pout (okay not so sultry as much as smirky) and it all went a bit silly. A few guitar riffs here, a head mosh there and Susie Rock was born.

So above is my rock 'n' roll homage. Below is the normal(ish) pictures so you can see the jacket a little more in it's glory.

Felted jacket body with pleather sleeves and inlays.

Very slimming and very flattering.  You've got to try it!

You're right Marlene, its a great jacket and very flattering!

I've styled it typically with jeans but I have in mind a little black lace dress to pop underneath should there be an occasion which calls for me to break out the legs. Until then, I will quite happily pretend to be Kate Moss or Alison Mosshart in best Rock Chick mode.

Anyone else tempted by a biker jacket? Or do you already have one and I am just sooo slow off the mark?  But crucially, how would you style it?

    1. Ah ... but how do you wear it? I probably won't be going out as a rock chick - I'm sure I will be disowned quite quickly if I did. So I have to find slightly more age appropriate ways to wear. All suggestions welcome.

    1. Thanks Avril - it is a lovely jacket - I could actually see you in this one and looking and being comfortable in it. It seems more age appropriate somehow so quite classy.

Not had chance to look for the grey tights - no doubt when I finally get some, they will never get an outing and the black ones will win again. I'm a cautious and conservative soul though you'd never guess from the photos. One of the school mums found my blog by accident and I was totally mortified. I've sworn her to secrecy or I'd never be able to show my face again at the school gates or I'd have to quit blogging! I've only shown my blog to two friends and my family don't know I blog. They wouldn't understand ... I'm not sure I do.

    1. Thank you! I nearly fell over in them when I was trying to take the pics. I don't wear them much as they're a bit higher than what I'm used to these days ... but it's good to break them out every now and then.

  5. Yeah, I really like it on you! I know how that blog buying madness goes haha...have definitely had that before. But here it really worked in your favor! This is totally the type of chic piece that is also comfortable and can be worn in a casual, everyday way.

    1. Oh crikey - tell me about being influenced by blogs! And I'm a susceptible soul at the best of times. Yes, the jacket is lovely - I might be able to pull this one off without it looking like it's wearing me.

    1. Everything looks amazing when you turn pictures black and white. Somehow, things get smoothed out a little and atmosphere gets added by the bucketloads. But it was fun though you should have seen me scrabbling around in the cupboards for some champers. I felt a bit like Patsy in Ab Fab!

  7. oh this is a seriously good jacket. glad you are keeping it - a good biker goes with everything :) this one's a little less out there minus straps and buckles, so i think it's a lot more sophisticated and clean.. i've been contemplating it for ages, if it wasn't going into summer here i'd have already bought it!

    1. It's a lovely jacket, I think it's a keeper. Just thinking if you're going in to Spring Summer - how does that work in terms of fashion ranges in places like Zara? They are still selling the same stock aren't they or is it all shorts and tees now? Anyway, you could always buy the jacket and keep it for the winter?

    1. Yes Marlene always looks so well turned out, doesn't she? It's thanks to her that this jacket is now in my wardrobe. I'm all about wearable fashion ... as you probably know by now.

    2. Ladies, I'm blushing from the compliments. I didn't think too much about the outfits because I was way too worried about photographing the wedding on my own. The two of you certainly made my day!

  9. That's a great jacket - so versatile (like the shoes too!) I have a kind of biker jacket from last year - think it's time to get it out again. Just been reading your previous posts and I'm pleased to be your new follower.

    1. Thank you Miss B. And thank you for reading.

I love the shoes too but I have a real struggle to make them work for me. I bought them purely because I loved the curved sides which I thought were a bit happening. They make your legs look funny though with a dress or skirt ... or maybe its just my legs!

    1. Oh go on Lindsay - go and pop in to a Zara and give it a whirl. The customer service may not be as spot on as some of the places you shop but I'm sure it will be fun! Haute Mama - me - never!

  12. Thanks for the hilarious rock star poses and attitudes!

The jacket is wonderful! I would never have guessed it's from the TRF section! I like how the jacket's a great blend of polished and rock'n'roll which makes it quite versatile and easy to wear.

In my wildest fashion dreams, I would love to own the Balenciaga and the Rick Owens biker jackets! I have an old ASOS leather jacket that I usually team with slim jeans and IM boots/ballet flats or with "smart" black trousers and heels.

    1. Oh I scare myself sometimes with what goes through my head. The best things happen on the spur of the moment as do the best outfits.

I could do with a really good pair of black slim trousers ... I do not have this wardrobe essential!

  13. FABULOUS jacket ... why do you think you need tips for styling it? It looks amazing on you. All you need is jeans and top and let the jacket do all the work. Big thumbs up from me! Super photos too. I'll have to start getting more creative!

    1. Well I'm guilty of wearing the obvious which is the jeans but Marlene showed the way with a dress and I just like to see how other people put their own slant on the same item. Besides, it's the first biker style jacket I've had and I've yet to wear it out of the house.

I should really wear it for the school run and see if anybody notices ... will make a change from the Barbour and Hunters. Standard issue for North Yorkshire school mums.
