Last post, a rock chick. This post - student of love. Well not student of love but rather student in a Gap Love jumper. Could you get more different?
Gap Love Jumper (old)
Falmer Heritage Boyfriend Jeans
New Look Nude Pumps
I've always loved the Bella Freud jumpers which adorned the torsos of Kate M and Alexa ....

... so I was quite delighted to find this more affordable number by Gap last year . I think it was last year, you know how time flies. One minute, learning the opening lines of Macbeth ...
When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightening, or in rain?
When the hurlyburly's done,
When the battle's lost and won.
That will be ere the set of sun.
I remember wearing a navy jumper in class in 198....
Do I look very studious? Not a day over 18 + many more....
Do I look very studious? Not a day over 18 + many more....
Next thing ... married with two kids ... writing a blog. How did I get here?? And I can never get those opening lines out of my head - drummed in they were! A' Level English Lit - I was so rubbish. I got through the A'levels with the help of York Notes - do they still have those? And a video of Roman Polanski's Tess of the Durbevilles. I was running out of time trying to read the book before the exam the next day!
Anyway, back to the jumper which is quite quirky with the unexpected "kiss" embroidered on the inside of the cuff which you only discover when you turn up the cuffs. To be honest, I think I was a bit of a fright in my student days - I used to try and make my own dirndl skirts from Liberty fabrics which I used to be able to purchase in Schofields in Leeds (old department store which has gone by the by) and think I was amazing. Well you do, don't you when you're a teen and you have the world at your pretty young feet? And you don't know any better and you don't care even if you do.
To add to the student vibe, I also found the Grumps redundant specs which have quite fetching navy frames which I will have altered with my prescription next time my sister goes to Hong Kong. It's much cheaper to get all things glasses related done there.
And on the theme of love, I decided to wear my Elsa Perretti Tiffany necklace which the Grumps bought me for my 40th birthday a little while back. There are three hearts - the big one is him and the two small ones are the boys. Awww. Brought a tear to my eye it did.
So back to normal today, no sherry, no guitars, no tottery heels. Just a cute jumper and a stonking good bedtime read.
Night night.
Great post :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the necklace. And the specs - they suit you.
I remember making skirts with liberty fabrics too - there was a shop where you could buy a skirt 'ready to sew' complete with shirred elasticated waist bit - all you had to do was sew down the side seam and hey presto - a dirndl skirt! (Not sure what the point was really - they may as well have been sold as skirts and have done with it.)
Happy memories of younger days!
I remember those skirts - they were always a little on the frump side or rather that's how it appeared to a 16 year old at the time. Can't resist a good Liberty print - bought my Barbour just because it was Liberty lined!
DeleteLove that jumper. I hope they still sell it as I#m planning on stealing your style. ha!
ReplyDeleteI did a bit of googling on it and I think it was circa 2010 so definitely long gone. You could always invest in a Bella Freud one though!
Deletelove this! the jumper is adorable!! the little kiss bit on the sleeve is such a cute detail - definitely giving me ideas of embroidering secret messages in my man's shirts.. haha :)
ReplyDeletei have one of those elsa peretti hearts too which i wore solidly for five years (until that relationship ended haha) and the 'all the world's a stage' monologue from shakespeare's as you like it forever memorised in my mind from guildhall drama classes.. so weird that it sticks with you even fifteen years down the line..

I can't even imagine what you would embroider on his shirts - the fact that you can embroider is impressive though.
DeleteIt's funny how we can remember things from so far back but not what happened last week. Or is that just me?
Adore the necklace - what a great look altogether! X
ReplyDeleteAaah - you can't resist a bit of jewellery can you? It's not very often I actually feature a piece but that's because it's not very often I remember to wear any but the neckline looked a little too empty without a little something.
Deletewhat a lovely sentiment behind the necklace, bought a tear to my eye too! Jumper looks fab on you although now in my late forties (ahem)I avoid slogan tops like the plague!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting to the point where I should be leaving well alone but I did buy this a couple of years back so that doesn't count (well not in my books anyway) and it would be waste of a perfectly good jumper!
DeleteWhy oh why didn't see this sweater?! Lately, I've been hunting for jumpers but most are just so your standard run of the mill stuff. Aww...what a sweet and sentimental gesture. See Grumps can be romantic when he wants to :P
ReplyDeleteOh you can't beat a good jumper at the end of the day. Tell me if you spot any good ones on your travels - I have plenty but not plenty enough :o)
DeleteLove your jumper and that necklace is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI wear this sort of look all the time, can't beat a wooly jumper with skinny jeans

Oh I totally agree and I can totally see you wearing something like this. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteReally love that jumper, especially the cuff detail. How gorgeous is that sentiment behind the Tiffany necklace .. such a lovely and thoughtful gift to get for your 40th.
ReplyDeleteIt was a really lovely thought from my Grumps. He's a softie really though he won't thank me for saying that on here.
DeleteJumper seems to be getting a yay!
Oh I love it, and the little unexpected kiss on the inside of the jumper. It looks so cosy too!
ReplyDeleteIt was really unexpected! Full length jumper sleeves are usually a touch too long so I turned up the cuff and there it was. I was quite pleased to find that the other cuff was normal as it might have been overkill. It's a sweet jumper - quite girly for me.
Deleteyou look lovely and youthful and chic! especially love your jeans and the jumper. the tiffany necklace is such a classic topper. always nice to see iconic tiffany jewelry worn in a sophisticated way.
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Sophie - I'm blushing as I type. It's also a good thing that you can't see me now. The Peretti designs are such classics - I'm coveting their heart one done in Jade - now that really is beautiful. I like the idea that it is Jade and harks back to my oriental roots.
DeleteIt's good to ring the changes with outfits. Cute jumper. This post made me smile and my mind wandered to my A Level English days - how would I have managed without Coles notes (must have been similar to yours) and they are still going strong!

I'm pleased that you noticed how I changed from the last post. My technical term is "fashion schizo". I think I remember the Coles notes too. I probably read everything apart from the actual book I was supposed to be reading!
DeleteWhat a charming jumper. I LOVE the sleeve detail. There's a J.Crew sweater for Spring 2013 in grey that says 'darling' across the front in pink script. It's on my list for my off duty wear:) Very sweet gift from your husband. There's always a sweet spot in my heart for Tiffany.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pop across to look at the J Crew site now - I love grey jumpers!
DeleteYes - I have a thing for Tiffany too. But don't most girls?
