I spotted this top a couple of weeks ago. One solitary piece wedged between a rail of bits and pieces. I was hoping it would be a jacket as I thought it might make a lovely throw on statement piece for those imaginary occasions which exist in my make believe party world. It wasn't. It was a top. So I left it.
The following week, I spotted it again. But this time, I picked it up and took it into the changing room with me. It's one of those pieces where you just have to scratch the itch. So I scratched it and found I loved it. But alas, those imaginary occasions are exactly that - imaginary and I have no use at all for this. But if you have a more exciting life than me and you could do with a really nice going out top - this is worth a look.
Word of warning. This is a size 14 and I don't think this looks or feels huge on me! It's heavy - well all those sequins are bound to weigh a bit and it has NO zip. You have been warned ;o)
Go back and buy it Sue. It looks fabulous on you! We all need party clothes hanging in our wardrobe for those imaginary "do's" - they make us smile as we pull our jeans and jumpers out yet again! Sue xx
ReplyDeleteAlas, I have party clothes hanging up already with nowhere to go. If it goes in the sale - I'm on it ;o)
DeleteOh my goodness, you must go back and buy it! It's just lovely on you and you never know ... you just never know when a last minute 'sequin only' event will crop up, and wouldn't you kick yourself then, if you didn't have this hanging in your wardrobe?!
ReplyDeleteWell Helen, I was being good here and those last minute sequin events - I've never had one yet - not even in the past!
DeleteYou are definitely encouraging me with the bling! I am not normally a sparkly girl, but I picked up a navy sparkly jumper in m&s (also a 14, but there sizing seems all over the place!). It is a lovely top, perhaps you will have to make a sequin event happen. ..
ReplyDelete*their not there (autocorrect)
ReplyDeleteThe sizing is definitely all over the place with this top - I thought it didn't look very big considering it was a 14 and I'm a 10. There's no vanity sizing on this one. And I've not had a sequin event for a few years now so I don't think this one would earn it's keep :o(
DeleteOh wow it is stunning and it really suits you. It looks amazing against your skin tone. You have to go back and buy it xx Melanie
ReplyDeleteMelanie, I love it but I really can't justify this one sitting in my wardrobe just twinkling at me. I have too many things like that already from days of old and it feels a bit full on for the events that I go to these days. Big sigh.
DeleteI hate to be the joy police but I've read that if there are sequins / embroidery on fast fashion tops, they tend to be done by hand - usually in unpleasant conditions and also often by children, or women with few labour rights. Lucy Siegle at the guardian writes about this:

Thank you Claire, they are enlightening pieces and I was reminded of the articles you mention as they were referenced recently by a fellow blogger when she addressed the issue of more mindful purchasing (http://www.loveagoodstripe.com/looking-fast-fashion-straight-in-the-eye/). There are many things to consider on matters such as these.
DeleteLove it!! I'm with you though.....no where to wear it! H&M have some seriously amazing stuff in at the moment don't they? xx
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised to find this one piece hanging around but I couldn't resist having a try on. I wonder what you've got your eye on?
DeleteIt's lovely, and you look great in it!
ReplyDeleteWow! Studio 54 meets Star Wars! (in a good way :-D) I'm with you though, I have a whole load of 'out-out' stuff sitting in the wardrobe that has never been anywhere but 'in'...
