Geometric Skirt

Thursday 11 June 2015

I don't often wear a skirt but I've been trying my best to break from the norm and the nice weather seems to be helping in getting the old legs out. And a nice way to ease in to skirts is with a midi. Midi's can be challenging but I do think it's just a point of finding one that cuts you off at a flattering part of your leg i.e. not the widest part. My black geometric patterned one is from H&M. The pattern won me over and the HUGE pockets. You can fit a novel in these pockets - seriously. Not quite Vanity Fair but a slim paperback by all means.

I wore it on the school run yesterday and heard a "whit whoo Sue!" behind me and got a pat on the bum from one of the school mums who was suitably shocked to see that I was in possession of a pair of legs.

Anyway, I'm back in the jeans today - can't change the habits of the last few years just because we've had 2 days of sunshine.

Last Note :

  • This skirt is actually 100% viscose but it's the most amazing viscose ever as it's not the thin creasy stuff you usually get but a real heavy weight fabric which barely creases. I spent all day in it and there was barely a wrinkle at the end. Mega (I know the vocab is atrocious isn't it?).
  • The skirt is currently half price in the H&M sale here
  • Nice worn in a more casual way with a grey tee and a pair of white Cons too if your legs can hack it. I'm not sure mine can. #shortie

  1. This skirt looks fab on you - I tried the navy version but, yup, it hit me at the widest part of my calves (and I'm sadly not blessed with the slimmest of them!)

    1. I have a lovely dress and it hits me on the wrong part as well and it kills me that it does that as I love the print on it and everything. I have to let it go. But it's strange how these little details really can make or break something for you. It's a shame about the navy skirt for you - it's such a nice easy design to wear.

    1. Hi Nicky and thank you - I'm glad you like the blog! I got my skirt in a size 10 - my usual size. The waistband is elasticated so it's quite accommodating.

    1. Thank you! It's a little different to anything I have so I thought I'd give this a whirl. It's not too in your face which is good for me. I

  4. You so suit this midi length and skirts/dresses (very cute in your blue dress) in general, you should wear them more. xx

    1. Thank you AnnMarie. I think it's the prude in me that makes me buy these modest hemlines. I don't feel as "exposed" in these lengths compared to a mini where I feel there is a little too much thigh showing sometimes. If I had great pins, that would be a different kettle of fish - the higher the better!

  5. The print definitely has a whiff of DVF about it. If I didn't head to the office everyday I'd be in jeans all the time so hats off to you for making the effort with a skirt. The look has really paid off and the midi length looks great and has the benefit of scoring maximum fashion points too.

    1. Oh I like that ... a whiff of DVF! I picked it as it wasn't a pattern that would wear me - I can't do overly big prints much as I like them - I need to be another foot taller to do that. But yes, it's hard to break out a skirt when you get so used to pulling on a pair of jeans. Life is much easier in jeans.

    1. Wearing a skirt makes you behave differently. Well, wearing a skirt like this one does as it's quite a girly look for me (grown up), I found myself doing a few hair swishes too. So not me these days!

  7. Doesn't it feel good to be able to get the legs out Sue?! Love this skirt, it's such a great length and the pattern is gorgeous....oh and I love the monochrome and tan together! I'm not in the least bit surprised that you got a pat on the bum and a whit whoo on the school run! I look forward to seeing you in some more skirts....I could do with some more inspiration! xx

    1. It's been nice to free the legs but I've not gone above the knee yet! No one is ready for that, me included. But I have to say, it's like coming home, pulling on the jeans!

  10. Looking lovely Sue! I have several maxi skirts that I only tend to wear if I'm going to be on my feet for most of the day, as all the fabric tends to get in the way if I'm up and down all the time. A midi could be just what I need! *hides credit card*

  12. I finally tracked this skirt down today after seeing it on your blog - I plan to wear it with a black or grey t-shirt, tan brogues or sandals, and a mustard cardi or denim jacket. Thank you for sharing it!

  14. Love it on you Sue. I love my jeans too, they are just so easy for the school run but also been trying to get the legs out so they see the sun a little more! Is that waist band elasticated? Love it even more if so x
