Cropped

Sunday 3 May 2015

I took the scissors to my ASOS baby kick flare jeans. I decided I wasn't feeling the love for them - they weren't me. So I turned them into cropped baby kick flares.

H&M Blouse (no longer available), Jigsaw Alicia Bag, ASOS Baby Kick Flare Jeans, Primark Sandals (old),

That's better!

Last Note :

  • There's a few ways to chop your jeans down - I'm not brave enough to do the snip and rip yet.  That's a literal make a snip and then rip them. Are you?

  1. They look great like that! Love the whole outfit, really summery. White top, blue jeans and tan. Perfect.

I definitely do the same as you and fiddle around with my jeans. Thanks so much for the patching tips too. I have an ancient (post-pregnancy, so too big) pair of gap bootcuts which I turned up to make boyfriend jeans. They had a huge rip, as they are old, and I have added 4 patches. New jeans!

My kick flares, I have done the opposite and let down the hem as I'm quite tall. I might need a more cropped pair come summer, though. Amazing how little things, like the exact length, make all the difference.

    1. The length is very important. I notice that on taller ladies they can wear their jeans cuffed something like 3 inches from the ankle up and I can only manage an inch or so ... there's not enough of my legs to do any more! So it's all personal and relative. I think I've just got more picky over the years and have learnt to not live with things when they're not quite right. I don't always do the alterations in the correct manner (some seamstresses would shudder) but the finished result I can get away with.

And glad to have helped on the patch tips. New jeans are great especially if they don't cost you.

    1. Thank you and shame about the top for you but you seem to have acquired a few new pretty ones anyway. I'm trying to get used to carrying the Jigsaw bag - I hate breaking new things in. I always feel I've got to be a little careful so find myself automatically reaching for something a little older and more bedraggled.

  3. You're great the way you just alter things to suit you. I'm so useless at anything that requires a needle & thread .. my local dry cleaners make a fortune out of me and my alterations requirements!

    1. Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint why something doesn't feel quite right but it's nice when it does. But even you could do this - no sewing required!

  4. You can but try especially if they're destined for the charity shop. It might give them a much needed new lease of life.

    1. Thank you! Oh I'm glad you managed to snaffle the top - it's fab for the price. I thought it wasn't bad at full price but it was definitely a bonus to get it in the sale.

  7. They look great Sue! I love this outfit & think it'll be a summer colour scheme I plan on following! I've just nabbed some RI flares on EBay & if no good I shall be doing this to them! x

    1. I think it's quite a classic colour scheme isn't it Andrea. Tried tested and much loved. And you've nabbed some flares - can't wait to see your take on them. I found it surprisingly challenging.

  8. i think the length suits you! i've attempted the snip and rip once, it was disastrous..! i was ripping up a pair of jeans into shorts and it ripped right into the crotch... haha!

    1. Oh wow. Hmm. Oh dear. Well I was thinking of testing it out on one of the boys old pair of jeans to turn them in to shorts but now I think I will just stick with my tried and tested scissors and cotton picker technique. It works.

  9. You are so handy with a needle Sue, brilliant idea to make something you aren't feeling the love for into something bang on trend! I take my hat off to your sewing skills again!
This is my kind of Spring outfit....feeling the bag envy again too! xx

    1. There was no needle and thread with this one. It was a snip and pick. A bit tedious on the old picking bit (took me a few days as I kept losing interest) but I eventually got there!

  10. That was an inspired alteration - they look great on you. I've yet to buy a flared pair this year....just not feeling it but now I'm tempted to buy a pair just to cut up - haha! x

    1. I guess you got rid of anything that wasn't skinny fit a while back. I really thought I was going to do the whole flare thing but in the end, I just couldn't get it right. Well at least I found a solution to the pair I've got so they weren't wasted. I think it would be funny if you actually went and bought a pair to do this with - mental :)

    1. I still have an old tatty grey messenger bag which I carry most days so I'm trying to give it some time off by switching to the tan one. I'm trying not to be precious with it which is almost unheard of with me. Usually they stay in their dust bags for a year before I start using them. Yup - weird like that!

  14. I love the way those jeans look on you! They're just the right amount of crop and just the right amount of flare.
