Impractical Baskets and MiH Slim Phoebes

A tisket, a tasket, £5 for my basket!

Toast Payaho Basket

Ding went my email at early o'clock the other morning! A Toast archive sale email alert! These are good. You can pick up some little gems in these. Like my £69 basket for £5. Lovely bright colour - burnt orange is their description, well made and strong. Strong in that it can take a heavy load but it is also strong willed and unyielding in that the shape doesn't give at all. You basically fit narrow things in this. Which is not good for picnics which is what I decided I wanted to use it for yesterday for a long day of cricket watching. Your sarnies are likely to get squished in this kind of basket but this is sorted by putting them in a container for protection. So quite an impractical basket but hey it would have cost me more to post it back as it came in the biggest box ever, than it would to keep it. So keep it and use it I shall. So there.

Toast Payaho Basket (sold out), Uniqlo silk spot shirt (similar here), MiH Phoebe Jeans, Birkenstocks, Zara belt

I thought it might also be a good day to test out the MIH Phoebe mid rise slim slouch leg jeans in the kissing wash. That's a mouthful isn't it? This is another sales score in the Anthropologie sale. Sold out now on there and the MiH site but still available here though not as cheap. Sorry.

Now I have to say, I've had these in my possession a couple of weeks now - I couldn't make my mind up about them as I didn't feel they were the most flattering jean ever on me but when are proper boyfriend jeans super flattering? I also like that they are a good quality denim - soft and comfortable but not in an overly lycra modern comfy stretchy kind of way. These have more of a natural give about them.

And my verdict at the end of the day in these? I love that they are super comfy, they loosen and soften up with a little wear and are quite lethal in that you would automatically reach for these all the time from a pure comfort point of view. I also like that they don't actually have any rips in them. Yep - that's right - no holes whatsoever. Sometimes, I get a little tired of bending down and hearing my jeans rip a little more across the knee or when I'm putting them on and you nearly put your toe through a hole so these are actually the perfect weekend jeans. And when dressed up with a pair of heels - they suddenly look all fashion. Strange but true.

Oh yes and this kissing wash finish they come in? They are the perfect summer blue without going over the top. Mwah mwah!

Last Note :

  • I'm not abandoning my high street denim any time soon as I feel there is a price point and a fit factor to suit everyone and basically I like having a choice of denim at my disposal. The thing is, with the sales it's nice to try something a little more out of your day to day reach and see what the hype is all about. So far so good - I've not been disappointed.

  • As you can see, these are not the longest of jeans given that I've done one big turn up on them  and I'm only 5ft 1 and a couple of mm, so they may not be suitable for tall girls who want to do turn ups on their jeans.

  • It's sometimes worth going back and checking on the Anthropologie site to see if any one has returned any of the Phoebe's if you're really interested in nabbing a pair at a good price as I've spotted the odd size coming in and out occasionally.

  • We won the cricket gala! Yay!

    1. It was a bargain. But there was one bargain which got away which I was kicking myself for for not checking out fast enough. I found a lovely dressing gown robe for £5 too and these things go for about £80 onwards. I had it in my basket and when I went to check out - it was out of stock. Pah!

  2. Bargain basket! Got my kissing wash phoebes on today too. With the tiniest of turn ups because I'm tall. I wish I'd have sized up though to make them Baggier, I prefer the bagginess of the phoebes to the phoebe slims, but then the name makes it pretty obvious they wouldn't be the same.

    1. I think I saw you leave a comment somewhere else and you mentioned you were tall so yes, I can imagine you must have small turn ups on your Phoebes. And have yours loosened up nicely or just enough for your liking? I was wondering if they were baggy enough initially but I think they are now just right. Any looser and I don't think I would be able to carry them off but it would be interesting to try. I love how both the slouch fit and the slim fit Phoebe's fit on Julia on Stylonylon and she's only petite but obviously tinier than me. It gives me hope :)

    2. Yes, they defo loosen with wear, I can't imagine I will be washing them that much (how bad does that sound! I just prefer then when they bag after wearing). I haven't seen her blog before liking the phoebes with the black patch that she has very much. I must not get anymore though! I got the boiler dungarees too, but they were far too big and had to go back, sob.

  3. Oh you have been MIH busy, they suit you plus loving the styling ( I do love your dotted Uniqlo blouses - I must check that they will do them again) the basket is fab, my friend has been busy with cricket galas each Sunday I went with her 2 weeks ago to watch her boys. Well done to yours! Xx

    1. I have indeed but I think that's it for now - I'm broke :o) Have a look at the link I've put on for the Uniqlo silk blouses - they've got them out again but the spot is a little smaller. I have to admit - I have no regrets and no complaints about these blouses so far - they are fab.

And thank you about the cricket. I have another cricket gala next Sunday - another 6 hours probably gone just like that. I have to admit, I enjoyed the last one though - lots of gabbing with fellow cricket mums and some nice snacky food - makes for a most enjoyable day! I'm going to get my £5 worth out of this basket!

  4. That made me laugh - I thought it was only me that managed to put my toe through the distress holes. The jeans look great - how could you even think about returning them. And wow what a bargain basket x

    1. Tell me a person who hasn't put their toe through their rips in their artfully ripped jeans? Honestly - it's the bane of my life. I've had to patch one pair of my Zara ones just to avoid doing just that!

  5. Thats a great bag bargain Sue! I never think to look in Toast, even though there's one here in Bath. I love the jeans, lovely colour wash, great for Summer! You made me lol about the jean holes, I'm always putting my toes through them when I put them on! x

    1. My nearest Toast shop is in Harrogate but I never go to Harrogate! I do like Toast clothing - I'm not sure it always likes me - the fit can be a bit loose and boxy on me depending on the item but they sell everything so well through their lookbooks. But the sales are not always that good ... but the archive sales are awesome if there is anything left in your size ... and you like it.

  6. Ooohhh, I love basket bags as you know, Sue, and this one is gorgeous! What a bargain too! I agree that they're not always the most practical, but who cares when they look so good? Lynne x

    1. I know you do. I missed out on the Redo one from Toast when it went in the sale - I just wasn't quick enough as I think that one would have been perfect or so I like to torture myself. But I'm starting to like my basket - I used it again today! We may be bonding! Impractical or otherwise.

    1. You could at least try .... are you after the slim or the slouch? They have the slouch ones in the most gorgeous blue on the Matches site ...http://www.matchesfashion.com/product/180716 - I'd love a pair myself but don't seriously think I could pull these off. Go and order some and report back!

    1. They are really comfortable and I took those pictures in the morning when I went out - they've loosened up even more now so look a little slouchier. But I know what you mean about not knowing how boyfriend jeans are going to fit. I've bought a few pairs in a size down as they look better than when they are falling off me. And even when they are falling off me - they seem to add bulk rather than give off that "I'm so tiny, my jeans want to fall off me kind of way" vibe. Ho hum.

I don't think I've seen you in many boyfriend styles?

  11. Whereas I, on the other hand, have bought my first pair of distressed jeans ... and am finding it most disconcerting having such ventilation! Love that basket - I would have kept it too!

    1. I can't believe you succumbed finally. Do you now need to wash your mouth out with soap or will that be when you start on the knee rips?
