We'll Always Have MIH Paris ….

Friday 11 July 2014

Last week, Alex's (The Frugality) words rang in my ears about how when it comes to the sales, it's the time to look at the things you've earmarked or have hankered after but haven't quite wanted to splash the cash on earlier in the season. Like she says, if you spend most of your time in high street, when the sales come round, it makes sense to buy that little special something which now costs the equivalent of a top price high street item. Too right!

So I hit the button on a pair of MIH Paris jeans. Partly by accident. I remembered some time last year that Laura (Wearing it Today) had mentioned some jeans which made her feel amazing and her legs look longer. Who doesn't want to own such a garment of wonder? They happened to be the MIH Breathless jeans and not the MIH Paris ones but for some reason, I'd got it in my head they were the Paris ones and kept them on my radar. So when I saw them reduced huge amounts on the Anthropologie site - hit that button I did. The fact that I bought the wrong pair of jeans is by the by as I still really like the pair that I've ended up with :)

MIH Breathless                                                            MIH Paris

Now why did I decide to go for the MIH Paris jeans? Because it says they are "cropped". And if they are "cropped", then this hopefully means, they will be a regular length jean on me and require no alterations - yay!

And yes, they're cropped - if you're 5ft 4 and upwards. Which I'm not. But sometimes I am … in my dreams. And in my dreams, I look a little like Christy Turlington. Dream big, little Sue, dream big! Anyway, these jeans were not cropped on me. They were long. They weren't even the perfect full length jean on me. So I had to shorten them using that much tried and tested original hem method which I use so often to give them their rightfully "cropped" look.

And I've been wearing them a couple of days to see how they "perform" and I have to say I really like the fit and feel of these. The denim feels a little more substantial than most of my regular high street skinny pairs - they are "holding" me in without feeling overly tight and they haven't loosened up too much at all and started bagging any where. And the slightly straighter leg is a little more flattering on me which is something I always look out for when I am looking at slim/skinny'ish jeans. Crucially one more thing in their favour …. they don't seem to need as much hoiking up as much as some of my other jeans. Yes they still slip a little but somehow I feel like they are still trying to hug my bum rather than trying to escape from it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say, I may not have bought the right pair of jeans but I'll always have MIH Paris (boom boom).

Sorry :o/

Last Note :

  • MY MIH Paris crops are in the New Original Wash.
  • These were from the Anthropologie site where they seem to do impressive reductions on some of their designer denim. I've just found out that they had the MIH slouch Phoebes (now sold out) on there reduced down to £60 from £220 approx which is still cheaper than on the main MIH site.  I may have even bagged myself the last pair of MIH slim leg Phoebes on there too or I would have shared the link as when I went back to check, they were sold out (sorry). In fact most of the MIH denim which is on sale on Anthropologie is priced around that mark, so keep an eye out for future sales if you are interested in MIH denim. I know I will.

  1. I got my MIH Paris in the Anthropologie sale in Jan mine are the dark blue wash but I ordered a 29 and I could of got in a 28 so they are waiting to go to my tailor for a inch to be taken out of the waist and bum area, and yes I had them re-altered length wise like you. I love this colour wash and they look great on you. I am totally with you on buying things that have been on your radar awhile and maybe a little out of our budgets in the sales...... I treated my self to the Chinti & Parker tee and a Monica Vinader frendship bracelet. Love your styling with the jeans, perfect. X

    1. I knew you had got some but they haven't featured much in any of the posts and that's probably because of the alterations required. I took a gamble on the sizing knowing nothing about MIH jeans and luckily it paid off - I hate ordering more pairs than necessary to try and gauge the sizing for something especially jeans which are notoriously difficult to buy. And yes, the Chinti & Parker tee is a good score as well as the bracelet. Both lovely additions to your wardrobe.

  2. Liking the jeans. I got my nouvelles cheap from anthropologie. Yesterday I bagged some slim phoebes for £65. I'm fast becoming an MiH addict, oslos, brightons, phoebes, phoebe slims, nouvelles. It also makes me smile how we are all commenting about these jeans on different blogs. :D

    1. I may join you on the MIH road trip actually. I've tried 3 different styles recently and they all fit which is a miracle in itself so I may have found my new Jean go to label. But yes, Anthropologie have had quite a good sale with their MIH jeans - I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the Christmas/New year sales now that I know what I'm looking for. And I was thinking you must be tall - the nouvelles are extra long aren't they? That would mean chopping something like 10 inches off for me.

    2. Yeah, they are pretty long. I'm 5ft 10, was 5ft 11 but I appear o be shrinking! Sadly not in my legs though, still struggling to find decent long trousers! Hence my Jean obsession.

  3. They look amazing. Better on you than either Laura and Alex. Must put on wishlist. Hx

    1. Thank you but I think it's all good camera angles really. Laura and Alex are all modelling different styles so will look completely different anyway - I couldn't hope to wear the Phoebe slouch jeans like Alex does and Laura is the perfect model for the Breathless jeans. I think it's just finding the style which suits your shape isn't it?

    1. I practically live in jeans yet these are the hardest things you can buy if you want to be comfortable and for them to flatter. And you don't need many sewing skills for this - if I can do this - you can!

  5. You are so handy with the needle and thread. I'd have one cropped to my knee the other to just above my ankle!

    Look very nice

And do you know what else Fiona - I bet you never ever have to take up any jeans do you with your long legs?

  6. I have Mih Paris jeans too I think in the same wash and they have lasted really well for two years! You are right they do slip down a little but nnoton as much as my other jeans. I ordered a pair of pheobes in the spring but they do come up mahoosive and as usual the size I needed (24 waist....in reality I am no where near that...just show you how big they are!) was sold out, pah!! The jeans look fab on you so flattering and such a lovely fit, I love the way you have re-cropped them..I didn't think to do that but they look way more chic like that very SJP!! Xx

    1. Oh my goodness - the Phoebes must be really really mahoosive. But were they flattering as I know you're dinky too and I would have thought there might have been too loose a style to carry off well? I went for some Phoebe slims - not as exciting but I think a little more forgiving for my shape.

And if you didn't need to recrop your Paris jeans - lucky you. Mine were still too long even to be worn long and with no turn ups so I thought I'd crop them to how I thought they should be sitting on someone if they did actually fit them correctly. Because they don't taper at the bottom, the job was really easy to do. Besides, if you've managed 2 years without having to crop yours - they must be fine just the way they are.

  7. I don't really bother with premium denim any more but when I did I used to try and bag it in the sale but you have to be quick as the 32 always sells out first! x

    1. I've not bothered with any particular brands over the last few years - the high street has served me adequately but I couldn't resist trying these and I'm glad I did. They are actually quite comfy for a slim jean - I wasn't itching to tear them off when I came home to slip in to something more comfortable aka joggy bots. And that's interesting that you say, the 32's go first. I always thought it was my size as mine always seem to sell out fast too. Or maybe I'm just unlucky.

  8. Great great purchase, they look amazing on you. I would love the pheobe ones but can't find my size in the sale :(

    1. The Phoebe slouch or the Phoebe slim leg? The Phoebe slouch ones have grown on me over time but they look challenging to carry off. I'm speaking as a shortie though. But if I could carry them off, I would certainly like to try.

  9. Remembering Alex's words of wisdom certainly paid off Sue!! The MIH jeans are a great little bargain to have bagged in the sale! I went to Kilver Court the other day which is an outlet that just so happens to stock MIH....am now kicking myself for not taking a closer look!! Mind you, that's an excuse to go back soon ;0) xx

    1. It might be worth another look! I probably wouldn't have bothered a little while back but I then got a bee in my bonnet about these Paris jeans and thought it wouldn't hurt to try. I didn't have high hopes and I didn't expect to get into them - I set my expectations low - but they surprised me. I'd go back to Kilver Court if I were you and try some different styles on for size and fit so you can ear mark those styles when they come up in a sale. They may not have the finishes you like at the outlet but at least you know how they fit if a pair comes up in a finish and style you like in a sale … and then you can hit the button!

    1. Do you need to do alterations? I thought you had no problems with all your jeans - you strike me as one of those persons where trousers and jeans always fit. And can you sew? Is this another hidden talent like your flower arranging?

And thank you - you know how to make a girl feel good. Good lighting helps too - magics away the wrinkles :o)

  11. Hi Sue, I found your blog whilst trawling the internet for posts relating to Uniqlo silk shirts. Bookmarking it now for shopping bargain pointers! I just bought those MiH jeans on ASOS...what a great tip! Thank you! Ann xx

    1. Hi Ann - I hope the jeans work out for you. I was very tempted by them as well but I had to reign myself in - now that I've discovered what my sizing is in MIH. Usually when I'm in store, I walk straight past designer denim because it all looks far too daunting and … too long. But I've been pleasantly surprised. And did you buy any of the Uniqlo silk shirts? I have two and I love them both.

    2. Hi Sue, I did and they arrived today! Love them. Actually, so did the jeans and it was pot luck but they fit me perfectly. However, bit like you, I'm going to have to get the sewing machine out to sort it for my dinky frame!

    1. Honestly Stephanie, I'm 5ft 1. I think I used to be 5ft 1.5 but I think I'm shrinking already as the Grumps measured me when he measured the boys recently. I was gutted.

And MIH sizing. I am a 28 (UK 10) and these fit fine as a 28. I've also tried the Breathless style and the Phoebe slim, all in size 28 and they all fit well. So yes pretty true to size. If you can find some, give them a whirl.

  15. You and Dead Fleurette/@bonjourtristesse make me want a CDG top now too. What's the general price point for a top like this/what is a good deal? I don't know much about the brand.

    1. I'd like the black and white version of the CDG Play tee as well but I can't justify it. This one was a present but I do know they are around the £90+ mark depending on where you buy and which style you get - they have a new version with the smaller heart which is rather cute. But the heart is definitely the little detail which gets you!

  16. What a perfect pair of jeans on you, Sue. I LOVE these! Being short in stature myself, these crop jeans are very appealing! I live the shade of them too. I really should invest in a more expensive pair if jeans. Lynne x

    1. Well it's the first time in a long time I've looked at jeans which are not H&M or Gap or Zara. I still like my high street denim but it was nice to indulge this time. And I had no doubts about them as soon as I tried them on so that's always a good omen.

I don't know how tall you are but they might fit you in length okay without the need for alterations or turn ups. I'm just such a shortie.

  17. Wow, they look amazing on you, the fit is glorious, THey have a wonderful casual feel and great with the stripeys. Isn't it funny how wear-stripes (whiskers or whatever they call them across the thigh) are actually really flattering. You've sold me on those.

Now the big question for me because I don't want to show the dreaded whale tale - how are they when you bend over or sit on a stool. I have bought so many pairs of jeans that when i do that it all falls apart....I have two drawer full of jeans that slip down and I can't take it anymore

    1. No whale tale on me or at least not that I've noticed. I did a bit of cricket practice in them and they felt good which is why they've become my favourites for now. A few pairs of other jeans I have I have to belt up tight to make sure they don't fall down and reveal too much. I should just get rid but I can't #hoarder

  18. Hi Sue,

I see this post is from ages ago, but did you buy the MIH jeans in your standard size?
I find myself recently lasting after this style as I'm rather short.
