Rue Madame Sweatshirt

Wednesday 7 May 2014

I love Joanna. Joanna is my little accomplice to my shopping crimes and she's based in Atlanta. She helps me score things over there that I can't get or which have sold out over here. Like one of my Uniqlo silk spotty shirts and this Madame Rue APC sweatshirt which I'd been eyeing up all last season. When it went in the sales over here, I wasn't quick enough and they sold out in my size but an internet trawl brought it up in my size in .... Barneys in the U.S.

"Hi Joanna, how the devil are you? You couldn't do me a favour could you? You could? Well, I've seen this lovely APC sweatshirt in my size - would you be so kind as to order me it? You would? You're a doll!"

APC Sweatshirt, Zara Jeans, Carvela Krimble Sandals

We did the handover in February when she came over for our bloggy meet. I was in no rush - you know me, buy and hoard and wear the following year. Infact, this one has spent a relatively short time in the wardrobe unworn. It's only been a couple of months since I got it.

I'm wearing this in a size small. It's quite a neat fit and not overly long in the body. The sleeves are the perfect length on me so I think anyone who was taller and with longer arms would not have fared too well with this. Usually I have the opposite problem where everything is a little long in the arms and the body so this is quite a novelty to find something with sleeves which fit me.

By the way, the above will be my uniform for the next few months and you will be very bored of it if you are not already. Jeans, tan sandals/espadrilles and a top of some sort - I like it, it works, it's comfortable, I'm boring.

Anyway, I'm up to my old tricks again. "Hi Joanna, you couldn't do me a favour could you? ......."   :o)))

    1. Even down the other end of the country is good. I have to say I'm trying to break out of the grey jumper habit at the moment so sweatshirts are proving to be my alternative go to. You've got a pretty nice Pull & Bear sweatshirt yourself which I'd be interested in if it wasn't for the fact that I've already got the black Ganni one. I'm missing a nice grey print one now.

  3. Very nice combination! I love the light blue jeans with tan sandals, and I'm eagerly waiting for it to stop raining in Paris so I can do the same and show my manicured feet at last. Feels good to be frivolous sometimes. I did miss the spotted silk shirts at Uniqlo here in France, I was so disappointed.

I don't understand how they manage their stock by the way. Any brand, not just Uniqlo - they have great basics that sell out so quickly, they could make much more money if they just produced more of these. I can understand the "rarity" strategy for collaborations (like H&M with Isabel Marant or whatever) but for their simple basic collections? It should be a permanent corner, but that's only my humble opinion. In the meantime, still looking for the ideal black & white spotted silk shirt :)

    1. I've been doing light jeans and the same tan sandals for the last couple of years - I am such a creature of habits. Because the sandals have a small platform at the front, they are not as high as they first appear and are actually quite wearable and comfortable. They also happen to be my summer equivalent of a "nude" shoe which help to elongate the leg a little. I also have another cheapy pair so I can alternate the wear to I don't wear either pair out too quickly. And I'm always looking for other tan alternatives - once I find a formula that works, I do tend to stick with it.

They actually brought out the silk spot shirts again early on this season in Uniqlo but looking on the French site, there are none to be seen whereas we have the odd size here. If you are still interested and I spot them again, I can always drop you a mail and see if you want me to help you purchase one? The offer is there.

  4. Very nice! I use American friends to keep my kids in Oshkosh...maybe I need to start putting in some orders for myself! Or alternatively, book myself a trip over....

  5. It's fabulous Sue....I am feeling the logo sweatshirt love and that's the first time I've said that ever. It's just calling to me in a way a logo sweatshirt has never called to me before. Love how you push me outside my comfort zone. And yay for Joanna - always good to have a friend on the other side of the pond, she's a darling x

    1. Oh my Avril. Wonder what else we can get you in? We've done boyfriend jeans. You even have Birks now - the ultimate fugly shoe which I really didn't think you would go there with. You'll be in hotpants next! But if you are interested in a nice sweatshirt for not too much - try Uniqlo. They have a little range on there for about £15 currently.

    1. I kind of made a little shortlist a little while back and this sweatshirt was on it. Luckily I have been able to get some of the items on it and laid some to rest which weren't quite right.

I now have a navy print sweatshirt, a black print sweatshirt - I'm just missing a grey one now!

  8. Are you trying to say you're #normcore?! (is that the expression?) And what is next on your US shopping list? Contacts in the US are very handy indeed, aren't they?

    1. No, I'm just saying that I'm really boring. I like my jeans, I like my sandals and I'm going to wear them all summer long. There's no point me blogging anymore because I will be wearing the same combo just about every other day :o)

  9. I still can't believe you're only wearing it now! I swear if I dig through your closet, I would find tons of new with tag pieces. APC clothes fit so well. I nabbed something similar at the sample sale but my friend kept eyeing it.... (it was £50) so I handed it over. *sniff*

    1. I know, I know. I think I showed you it when we stayed over in London in February. It's only been 2 months since I got my hands on it and 4 months since it was bought. I am nothing if not patient. I've only had one other item of APC clothing and that was another sweatshirt which I sold on as I bought the wrong size. I bought a medium and it was just that little too loose but not in a good way as it was also shortish in the body. I just looked like a box in it. If I lived nearer to you, I'd probably have nabbed your APC blouse too - I remember it from one of your posts.

    1. Oh yes - I still love it. It was worth waiting for. I like their sweatshirts and I sometimes keep an eye out for some of their old styles as well on Ebay. By the way, if you ever need anything from the UK, give me a holler!

  11. Oh god I think I need a friend like that! I generally just rely on mail forwarding and marking the value lower than what it really is... haha. LOVE the sweatshirt, such a great fit on you, and sounds like it was a good buy considering you still love it xxx

    1. Jamie, I can but only offer to do the same for you if you ever want anything over here. You were kind enough to offer to help with the Seed espadrilles. I did get to the point where I thought I was desperate enough to just go for it but they sold out in my size anyway. Snooze. Lose :(

  13. I love APC, would quite like an APC life actually...Joanna is a bit like me I think! I'm always in shops and appts in central london for my work, so I always just 'nip in' and grab the New Look sliders no one seems to be able to get their hands on - or grab my sister some bits from H+M Home as there's not one near her. An enabler, if you will.

    1. One can dream of an APC life or a Margaret Howell one indeed! If money were no object, I'm sure I would be going, I'll have one of those and one of those and ooh that's nice, throw that in as well! I'd love it if there was an H&M Home and a Zara one nearer to me - they all have such nice quirky homewares that you don't find in the usual shops and so reasonable too. You really can't beat H&M for some cute linen cushions.

And an enabler - I have been accused of such as well. I pick up stuff for people too :o) Can't have them missing out!

  14. That sweatshirt is perfect, love how you've styled it too! Think I have those same jeans although mine are a lot more faded due to the fact I live in them, although knowing you this is probably the first time you've worn them! X
