Fuchsia

Wednesday 20 March 2013

I know, I know. It's rather bright isn't it? It's stonkingly bright actually. Almost Atlantic Pacific bright?

Next Coat (very old)
Boden Must Have Jumper (last year)
Susie Ho Necklace (my design)

This is actually a very old work coat of mine circa 1997/8. Yes - I keep things a long time. I've had this coat longer than the Grumps.

H&M Low (not very) Skinny Jeans
Primark Ivory Sneakers

Actually I didn't store this one and I think I did actually manage to wear it within one month of buying it - see! I've not always been a lost cause. I remember there was a black version of the coat as well in the Next Directory but who wants boring black when you can have brilliant fuchsia?

Keeping it simple

I have to say, on the first day of wearing the coat - I didn't actually wear it. I carried it in to work. It seemed so bright against the dreariness of the workplace and I thought it looked terribly out of place. The thing that made it all alright? When a colleague walked past and said what a fabulous colour it was. Sometimes you just need a little reassurance to know that you weren't off your rocker when you decided to order a bright pink coat.

Grey silk scarf from China (snaffled from the Grumps)
I persuaded him he needed this and then procured it for my own use.

Right, I'm off to the supermarket - the oldies ain't gonna miss me wearing this number!

Watch out, watch out, there's a bright Sue about!

    1. I'm guilty of wearing the same old dark shades 99% of the time but every now and then I live a little and break out a pink coat. You've just got to do it.

    1. It is actually quite a classic style. Years ago, I always said I would like a bespoked coat in this exact cut and fit but in a lovely gorgeous camel colour. Not got round to it yet though.

  4. I really like it! Also given the neutral nature of the rest of your outfit it actually doesn't look that loud. Definitely keep wearing it.

    1. It gets a couple of outings each year to earn its keep in the wardrobe. If it didn't fit as well as it did and wasn't made as well, it would have long gone. But to it's credit, it's earned it's place.

  5. LOVE this colour! It's my fav of all pinks and wish I had more of it in my wardrobe. Even better that it's such a lovely coat - some things are so worth hanging on to. I think in those days Next was pretty decent quality wise.

    1. I just checked the fabric content and it is actually 90% wool. And that is pretty good going in this day and age where everything is acrylic, polyester and anything else which comes along especially on coats. I picked up one of the Next coats this year, a camel one in the right kind of cut but the fabric was too off and dare I say it - too cheap. I like picking up bargains but I like well made bargains at that.

    1. I think I must do as well. I was just having a wardrobe sort and there is more bright pink in there than I would have given it credit for. And yes, there's years left in this old coat ... unless I get fatter.

    1. I remember your post recently where you featured a bright pink coat and I was thinking "now don't I have something I can work with to dupe that look?".

Hope you get lucky and find your pink coat. They're not that easy to get hold of amazingly. Or not amazingly at all.

    1. I don't even notice how bright it is any more - I kind of gotten used to it. Well I have had it for nearly 15 years and counting.

And I'm sure you can do brights too - it's just finding the right one. I'll tell you one thing though - chartreuse makes me look deathly.

    1. Does that count with Anya handbags too because if you're giving those away, can I be first in the queue?

I'm not going to go till Saturday when I have a girls day out in Leeds - that will be the perfect opportunity for us to have a peruse. I hope there's going to be some good shops in there and I will be gutted if there's not. We need some new blood in Leeds.

    2. Ha no the Anya's are for keeps, sorry!

    1. It's such an easy outfit is this and the only standout item really is the coat. Put on a grey coat and it would look positively dreary. Yup - sometimes the old stuff is the good stuff.

  16. What a great coat, good job you kept hold of it. Only annoying thing is, we can't get one! It doesn't look that old and hopefully no old granny's rammed you with their trolley!

    1. I've looked after it admittedly - I am quite fond of the old thing but I think the material is really good and hard wearing too. It's like a wool crepe and doesn't crease. And no - no rammings by any of the old dears today - there are days when it can be quite hazardous.

  18. I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps things for an eternity. It's a great colour Sue - I don't think it's too bright at all - it's a good pop in this never-ending dismal weather (can you tell I'm hacked off with the weather?). Love your necklace! :)

    1. I keep things for far too long sometimes. I am going to do a serious cull this year. I am finally going to get rid of all the things which are too good for the charity bag but don't fit and will never fit again no matter how much I convince myself that I will. Soon. Just don't ask me when exactly but soon ....

And I am so very hacked off with the weather. It's freezing and I have sandals which need wearing!

    1. It is rather Atlantic Pacific isn't it? Well it's as near as I'm ever going to get to being. It's funny, I don't really notice the colour now - it's just another coat to me. Funny how your eye can adjust like that.

  22. I Love it especially with all your casual greys and looks fantastic with your hair. You had good taste even way back when. I can't even remember what I wore to work but so often I got it wrong - except for a beige Armani suit - though when I used to wear the jacket with a skirt I wore thin pale tights with it - ugggh!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thank you Jodi. You had Armani at least. I'm in a Next coat. But do you know what - I think I had the skin tone tights in those days so you weren't alone.
