Getting Lucky in a T by Alexander Wang Blazer

Okay, The Outnet had a flash sale last week. Who bought something then? I'm fairly new to The Outnet and didn't really know what to expect but hey, the savings are good! That's not to say I went mad and bought myself a whole new designer wardrobe or anything but I managed to pick up this T by Alexander Wang blazer for £27.75 down from £185 (sold out now so no link)

Me happy? Nah. Me ecstatic? Yeah!

My new blazer (she proudly announces)

I'd had my eye on it previously - I nearly ordered it when I ordered the Splendid shirt a little while back but I held back and I'm so pleased I did because I now have a nice new blazer for a paupers sum. The sleeves are ridiculously long. I think they were designed with Mr Tickle in mind but hey - nothing that can't be fixed with a pair of scissors and a needle and thread. Failing that, I will shrug them up. In addition, something I didn't expect was that the jacket is actually made in a lovely thick loopback cotton which makes it less prone to creasing. I was expecting something a little thinner and stretchier. Either way, I would have been happy.

Lovely thick densely woven jersey.

I was wearing my Primark snakeskin print jeans when the jacket arrived and surprisingly, it actually works with the jeans. If I hadn't been wearing them, I wouldn't have thought to pair them with the jacket. This is as badass as I get okay? Which is not very badass at all. When I think about this more, it's kind of badass in a White Company way. Like I said, not very badass at all.

Oooh a bit of snake print!

The colour is described as pale grey on the Outnet but I would definitely call it "greige". The perfect blend of grey and beige. Which makes it good for Spring when you want to start wearing lighter colours but not keen to break out in to anything too loud or too bright ... just yet.

And I know most people would shy away from a double breasted jacket because they can "widen" you but this one is cut cleverly to sit like a single breasted jacket which means there isn't any excess fabric flapping around your chest which is a no go for more top heavy ladies. However there is no way I could fasten the buttons on this without looking shrink wrapped but then again I wouldn't fasten this anyway.

Double breasted but in a single breasted kind of way.

And I'm liking the versatility of this jacket. I don't actually have much in the way of blazer style jackets so these are a bit of a new thing for me. I think once I came out of the office workplace, I basically turned my back on anything suit like as I felt they didn't fit in with my SAHM status. I definitely think I've been missing a trick somewhere along the way.

So my initial plays with the jacket yielded the following :

Outfit 1.

Zara linen tee, Primark necklace, CK snakesking bag/clutch, Gap ankle Boots

I think this is okay for a night out though I'm not overly keen on being so body con in the skinny jeans.I think the whole tight skinny jean thing plus snakeskin print makes me a bit self conscious though the boots do help tone it down. I actually look like I tried. Heaven forbid.

Outfit 2.

Dorothy Perkins Necklace, White Converse, Falmer Chinos

Can you hear the blissful sigh as I changed out of the snakeskin skinnies and in to the chinos? I feel much better in this. Relaxed and easy. And you don't need to just do Converse with this look - Ash wedge sneakers, Superga's, New Balance - take your pick. But look what happens when you change the shoes ....

Outfit 3.

Only changed the Converse for some Nine West heels.

Swapping out the Converse for a pair of high bronze coloured heels ramps it up a bit and still feels like me. Isn't it surprising what a difference a pair of shoes can make to a whole outfit? Looking at this - do you think this has a touch of the office about it or maybe a relaxed evening out? Well it's good to know I have something to fall back on for inspro when work rears it's ugly head. Oh yes - I also feel really grown up in this look. Eeek.

Outfit 4.

Whistles pumps, Kew scarf.

Aaah. The ladies who lunch outfit. Flat pumps and a smartish scarf. In a pale colourway. Obviously no kids in tow. Just need an expensive handbag and I'm good to go.

That's just a few initial ideas using the blazer and the same white tee (I was too lazy to change) but you can take this jacket whichever way you want. You probably have lots of different ways to wear it to me but it's versatile isn't it? I think this might be a good £27.75 spent. What do you think? Did I get lucky with this little purchase?

Did anyone else hit the Outnet flash sale and what did you get?

  1. Hi Sue-the blazer was a fabulous buy and look how versatile and stylish it is too-that is one item you'll be wearing a lot season after season. Your choice of outfits for different occasions show that a blazer is a must have for the wardrobe!! xx

    1. I was surprised at how well it lends itself to different looks but you know me, it's going to be a pair of chinos or jeans all the way. With sneakers. For maximum comfort.

  2. That is GORGEOUS!! And if this is the reason that you returned the last quilted jacket to Zara, then you are completely forgiven! This looks fab on you ... in fact, I'd leave off the scarf as it hides the cut of the blazer. Big thumbs up from me! Now ... DON'T go hiding it in a wardrobe for the next six months .. WEAR IT NOW!!!

    1. Nop. Still not the reason. This was just a little hiccup along the way. The last look is the one I liked the least actually and is the least me - I don't really do floaty scarves like this but it was just to show an additional look - this blazer as you say needs to be kept clean and simple. If the weather cheers up soon (snowed last night, raining as I type), this may get an outing soon. But if it doesn't, hey I think it will keep till next year :o)

    1. Fiona - I was quite surprised by it. It was a bit of a gamble as they only had size XS left and I kind of figured that if it was jersey, I could shoehorn myelf in to it anyway - you can convince yourself of anything when you put your mind to it. We've both had some good jacket bargains this week haven't we?

  4. I missed the sale, and it's probably a good thing. The Outnet it a very dangerous place for me. I was actually just thinking of spending some time browsing there today though... Your blazer is amazing. Such a good purchase! And would have been so at any price, but man, what a steal! I'm a huge A Wang fan, so I was predisposed to loving this, but really, objectively, it just looks great on you!

    1. I thought I'd just mosey along and have a nosey and I was rather surprised at the prices and especially at the price of this jacket. It makes me feel so much better to have scored an expensive (to me) jacket for a high street price. And now that I've got this one, I like the look of this too http://www.theoutnet.com/product/340705 Like you say, the Outnet is a very dangerous place. Tread carefully. You never know what might get you and your money!

  5. Oh wow, that really is a great blazer. I would love to own it, you lucky lady! I will probably be on the hunt for a blazer or two this spring/summer, they make everyday outfits instantly look that much more sharper :)

    1. Like I said - I think I've been missing a trick - they do make an outfit look much sharper and better put together than dare I say it ... a cardigan! But I am making up for lost time. I'm on jacket mode at the moment. It's rather scary.

  6. Oh Sue, what an amazing bargain. You are going to get so much wear out of this jacket. I can see it with stripes and yellow too. So pleased you got it at the price you did - especially as you had already eyed it up previously. Enjoy wearing. Love all the looks - the one with the Nine West shoes possibly edges ahead for me slightly. Have a great week, Avril x

    1. Ah the smart look - should have guessed you'd go for that one Avril! I do love a good bargain and especially when you find it when you're not really looking. Isn't that always the way? The whole look is so interchangeable.

Hope you find what you're looking for - like you said - you'll know when you find it.

  7. You got an amazing piece at the best price! The site crashed so I never got to see this at all. This is the best thing that can happen on Outnet, bagging a bargain staple that's so versatile. I love all the looks equally. But how about trying it with a dress, pretty please? I'm sure you'd look fantastic!

    1. Dress. Hmm. Scary. For me. Very. See. Talking almost in monosyllables.

I had a look upstairs in the wardrobe and I couldn't see anything which worked with it immediately. I might have to go to the summer dress box and have a look in there but I wouldn't hold my breath. Because the jacket is definitely a casual piece - it jars a little with the dresses I have hanging up. If I was 15 years younger and with stick legs up to the heavens, a cute denim mini would be my choice. But I don't have stick legs and I'm a bit beyond in years. Don't make me go there!

  10. Ah Sue!!! I am so envious of you for your killer bargain (I mean sweet jesus could it have cost any less?!) and also for how darn good it looks on you, in all combinations. I have a simalar IM Etoile blazer, which I don't like the look of done up but it sits so cleverly well when unbuttoned. Think I might just wear mine today.. inspired by you! ;)

    1. I don't think I've ever seen you in anything IM before. No I tell a lie - you have those gorgeous pink shorts! Do take a pic of you in the jacket if you wear it as I'd love to see how you style it and then I can sneak some ideas off you. Especially if you're going to wear it with one of your many dresses or skirts.

    1. Oh I won't be wearing the lunch outfit anytime soon - that one is the least me but I might turn up in the one with the Converse. That's my favourite and surprisingly for me, the heels is my second favourite. They feel "comfortable" to me.

      Lunch it is then!

  13. Woohoo....good going, Sue!! You know, this double breasted blazer reminds me of the IM version we tried on at Liberty. I'm beyond envious that you bought this for less than £30!! You know I'm crazy about AW. I LOVE this on you. I think it's meant to be. Fits you PERFECTLY.

    1. It reminded me of the IM jacket too which is what made me look at it in the first place (thank you!). And I'm totally amazed that I actually managed to score a decent bargain for once - it's a bit like the lottery - it only seems to happen for everyone else!

I can't believe this cost less than my grey tee. Now that's saying something.

  20. wow this is the proverbial great buy, lucky you! it's so hard to find a soft jacket that looks good - most times they lack the "finish" of a proper jacket. i've never been a alexander wang fan but you've made me think his clothes might be worth a closer look!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They can be a bit hit and miss can't they? I've tried on a few but the finish hasn't always been there and some are too floppy and the seams are a bit skewed. This one is a heavier weight so has a little more structure despite it being jersey. This is my first experience of an Alexander Wang piece and it's been good - I might have to look out for some more. We've unleashed a monster.
