Plaid, Check or Tartan?

Wednesday 28 November 2012

Jack Wills Mens Lambswool Check/Plaid/Tartan Scarf (old)

Worn with "altered" M&S Grey Coat (ancient)

When will I learn not to put myself in the same picture as a model?

So Hedwig from Northern Light has been going round with her funky plaid/check/tartan scarf. Well guess what, I have one too. Yay! And I got mine two years ago. Woo hoo! So does that make me extremely fashion forward? A trendsetter? Ahead of my time? Or .... just plain lucky that they've just come back in fashion again. The latter. I thought so.

This was originally a Crimbo pressie for the Grumps but there was a bit of the raised eyebrow about the bright pink bits in the scarf, so I decided it was best if I kept it for myself. And I'm pretty pleased that I did because apart from being big, warm and funky - it means I've got the 2012 check/plaid/tartan scarf trend ticked!

And I didn't even have to spend a penny (this year).

    1. It's certainly cheery. And works well with the grey like you say. To be honest, I wear it with things which don't go as well. More fun that way.

  3. LOVE the scarf - the colours are definitely those I wear! I do not have a tartan scarf at all.....however, bet it's wool, right? Can't wear it anymore boo, hoo...It looks wonderful on you with the grey coat.

    1. Gosh - you can't wear wool? That cuts out quite a lot. But it does mean you just have to indulge in the finer fabrics in life which I'm sure you do.

    1. Yeah silly Grumps! Actually I'd better take that back before he chases me round the room and beats me with the scarf.

  5. Lovely cosy scarf and there's always something Christmassy about tartan in these colours.

    1. You're right - it's probably why it feels so right for this time of year. The hit of pink lifts the scarf and makes it a little more modern. Quite hard to wrap nicely though as it's quite thick. But where there's a will there's a way.

  6. Great scarf, what a result the grumps raised an eyebrow! I have seen that other blogger before, she used to feature a lot on one of the photography blogs I used to follow x

    1. Yes Hedvig is one of the more "visual" blogs I look at for inspro and this is one of the few things I could actually do. The rest is a bit beyond my fashion remit of SAHM. Yeah - I must buy more scarves like this for the Grumps - I come out a winner don't I?

  7. Great scarf - I'm loving the colours too and it looks great with the grey. My hubby won't wear scarves at all so I always get the pick all he gets at Christmas and I always take a look at what the men's section has in stock - you can get gorgeous muted/autumnal colours and there's less risk of meeting someone else with the same one :) Ax

    1. I'm with you there - checking out the men's stuff is more interesting sometimes. Like you say, at least not everyone is wearing it. The kids' department is good for that too.

  8. I have the other problem - my OH loves scarves and pink - should I be worried?

    1. Dear Joanna.

I wouldn't worry about the problem for now but if he starts wearing your skirts and borrows your lippy then it might be time to take action. I hope that helps.

  9. Love, love, love the scarf...I'm sure it looks way better on you than on your other half!
I'm now quietly musing whether my DH might like a lovely animal print or cashmere scarf this year ;D

  10. I've only started to get a little more interested in plaid. Hence, the flannel shirt you saw me wearing the other day. I've always told the hubs - what's yours is mine, what's mine is absolutely positively mine.

    1. Is it from Zara? I think I saw the blue/green equivalent the other day and was very tempted but put it back as I know I already have checked shirts in my wardrobe. But it's so easy to be swayed by what you see on someone else. You look great in yours. And your mantra is a good one. I would adopt it more often if anything of the Grumps fitted me.

  11. Sue I love how you just "throw stuff on" look fabulous and casual and head out the door. Love your booties! Sisters in shoes.

    1. Yup - mine's pretty thrown on as quickly as possible :o) Really getting in to the booties but not much call to wear at the moment as it has been bucketing down just recently and suede and rain are not good bed partners. A few drier days would be most welcome.

  12. It's lovely! I recently purchased a JW hat which could fit 4 heads inside so feel a bit cheated;)
I don't have a great deal of luck with scarves for some reason. My dream scarf was a silk paisley by Toast which sold out almost immediately, so I'm sort of stubbornly sworn off them for the time being. I did find a very nice patterned scarf in M&S recently, not so warm, but really decent quality. Definitely worth a look in there!

Now I need to catch up with my blog reading x

    1. M&S are doing some lovely scarves which I see when I pass by but I always seem to forego them in favour of ones from elsewhere. I used to shop religiously at M&S (it was on my route home - I couldn't avoid it) but I've kind of lost my mojo with them (I think Per Una put me off big time). Having said that, their Limited Collection and Autograph range have some really fab pieces - I was very tempted by one of their coats this year but had to reign back due to lack of wardrobe space. The coat cupboard is officially full. There is no room at the inn.

    1. Agreed - I guess it never went out of fashion rather than I was never in fashion. But I like not being in fashion too. If you get what I mean.

    1. My coat is my very old M&S ankle length work coat which I asked a nice lady to chop off a few inches for me a few weeks ago. I think it's becoming one of my new favourites - it's far to easy to throw on (and warmer than the Mango one).

    1. Thank you Lindsay! I think I'm going to pull the trigger and buy myself some really good tights this year as per your post - time to grow up and invest in proper hosiery!
