The Project

To dye clothes no longer worn in fetching trendtastic plummy shades to prolong clothes longevity.

  • Take one old off white cotton Topshop tee.

  • And  a cobalt blue viscose ASOS midi dress.

  • One box of Dylon dye in Burlesque Red (purpley/auberginey colour)

  • Add 500g of salt.  Wash at 40 degrees.

.
  • Peg it out to dry .............

Booooooger!

It could only happen to me right????

  1. Eek - you are very brave. The contrast actually looks OK though I think. But I have never dared to dye anything.

    1. Not sure if brave or stupid. Actually, I didn't think there was that much that could go wrong except I hadn't reckoned on the manufacturers using polyester cotton thread which is resistant to dye. Oh well - one tee for bed and I will try to hem the dress in purple. And it was all going so well .....

    2. You could always do what I am contemplating on my recent New Look bag which has white piping which I dislike. That is: colour it in with a marker pen...
See: you give me bravery / stupdity - I trump you you total insanity...!

    3. Nah - done that already! Well actually, I coloured in some stitching with shoe dye once because I didn't like the contrast. And the heel. Beat that! And then we can be sectioned together.

  2. Hahaha.....Okay, I know I'm not supposed to laugh but I'm glad someone else have the same problem. I dyed a rather horrific cardigan and it looked even more ghastly, if that was even possible. So, yeah, no more DIY.

  3. this happened to me once. i had a great idea of cutting the bottom off to make a crop top (yay) and then i realise i dont actually wear those things (doh) so it was kind of futile and i ended up giving it away to the clothing bin :P

    1. Well these may end up in the charity bag yet ... one woman's rubbish is another one's treasure!

You always look to be quite successful with your diy clothes projects. Not doing the studding thing though - not after this failure!

  4. It's not so bad with the blue thread - kind of a nice contrast :)

    1. Yes but it would have been nice if they had just turned out right - I was thinking lovely berry shades for Autumn and thinking how clever I am (not).

    1. That's a very polite way of saying bonkers isn't it?

With reference to the comment - you're most welcome.

  7. Well, I'm really happy to see that Dylon do that gorgeous aubergine colour as I'm thinking of dying a pair of jeans that colour now! So thank you for that and thanks for the laugh too ... I think the midi dress is ok actually and maybe the t-shirt would do as PJ's?! :)

    1. The t-shirt has made it into the pj pile. The dress - I may be able to get it hemmed so the blue is no longer showing and I will wear a jumper over it and treat it as a skirt .... when I get round to it :o)

But the colour is lovely - I like the way it's come out on both items - more wine/burgundy on the top and deep aubergine on the blue dress.

I'm just wondering what colour to dye my white jeans now - I've decided that white jeans and I just don't get on.
