Lacing Up

Tuesday 2 February 2016

Some things take a little while to filter in to my consciousness. Like the laced up neck jumper and tops which have been hanging around for the last year thanks to Ms Marant yet again working her fashion magic. She created the Charley jumper (seen above) and then various versions came out from the The Kooples doing their rather lovely version here (which I have and actually prefer to the Marant) to even Primark bringing out their version in September which I tried on but didn't buy- it wasn't bad actually and very cosy.

And then I didn't think very much about it till I spotted this in M&S a week or so ago.

Stripes and a lace up neck - quite a nice fresh take on the old Breton I thought! What a perfect top to take you from spring in to the summer! This one is a size 10 and I'm a size 10. My remit these days when shopping is "thou must not hug the spare tyre" and this one skims it nicely. The arms are cut slim and it's a nice medium weight cotton.

With a pair of cropped flare jeans and some Swedish Hasbeens - this would be quite a nice modern take on the seventies looks which seems to show no sign of disappearing. With a pair of cut off denim shorts and a pair of Converse and a cute basket - how very tourist chic is this? And with a pair of navy wide leg trousers - what can I say? You're a lucky thing having giraffe legs and being able to carry this off!

1. Uniqlo Wide Legged Trousers (for the long of limb)
2. White Converse Ox (a true classic)
3. M&S Striped Top (new take on a classic)
4. Mango Denim Shorts (work it baby)
6. Topshop Dree Kick Flare Jeans (it's the new jean shape)
7. Toast Moheda Clogs  (the seventies are still here)
8. ASOS Foxtrot Leather Sandals (love the sharp yellow - it's in this year)
9. Topshop Whitney Sunglasses (I love funky sunglasses)
10. Uniqlo Ines Basket Bag (To put all the above purchases in ;op)

Can't quite picture it? This might help!

  1. I adore the Marant sweater Susie, but sadly do not have the pennies to purchase it!
Instead I opted for a black leotard style (how very 80's!) with a low lace up neck. I'm liking it and when I decide I don't I can always pop a sweater over it! M&S have one or two good pieces arriving don't they? Thanks for the tip on the polka dot shirt a few weeks ago - it is now hanging in my wardrobe!! Sue xx

    1. I don't have the pennies for it either but I didn't think the Marant one looked like a very easy jumper to wear as it has quite a high waistband which I thought would bunch a little. You actually went for a black leotard style one - not that is daring! I don't think I have the guts or the body to go there. And glad you managed to pick up the polka dot shirt - it's a good little buy.

    1. I just thought it looked a little different and I'm trying to imagine worn in the summer with lashings of sunshine which always puts a different spin on things doesn't it? The reddy burgundy stripes one is also nice - I tried both!

  3. I love lace up tops, but they're too open in the neckline for wintertime - definitely going to purchase one for spring, though! That striped little number is just right :)

    1. Definitely not good for the winter time - I need neck coverage and lots of it! But for the spring going in to summer, it's nice to start showing a bit of flesh (in moderation).

  4. I love these lace up tops. I bought a black fitted knit one in River Island last Autumn. I am glad it looks like it's a continuing trend so I can wear it some more xxx Melanie

    1. I hope it stays a little longer as I bought myself a black lace up jumper too and I love it. I'll probably end up wearing it regardless of whether it's in or out - a sign that you love something.

  5. Now this is definitely one of those 'good for you, not for me' trends, of which there seem to be many this year, even though we're only in February! You look great in that little stripy number, I'd just look daft. They remind me too much of a kit that Man United once had, and that's the kiss of death for anything in my world, I'm afraid! ;-p xx

    1. Oh my! That really could be the kiss of death. Me in something resembling a football kit - arrrghghgh! I have enough of that with my boys.

    1. It's quite a nice little take on the old stripes - you could definitely do this with your legs in a pair of denim shorts and a straw trilby!

  8. I love the Marant one and the belt with it! I must agree with you that it looks very hard to wear, and certainly won't hide any spare tyre.

I love stripes, especially for spring/summer, and perfect with wide-legged trousers and denim.
