I fell in love with these clog sandals the first time I clapped eyes on them on Instagram. But I was rational and talked myself out of them. I had no need for them and they would not be a pair of shoes I would automatically reach for or want to wear often and so I left them lingering and loitering in the back of my mind. And then just the other day, I was in a shop trying on lots of different shoes when I thought to myself - for a couple of pairs of shoes in here - I could have one pair that would bring me much greater joy and happiness. Oh welcome Suzanne!
Are they comfy? I know they don't look it and I won't lie - they are not the comfiest but they are not the worst offender in my shoe cupboard - far from it. It's not because of the height despite these being in the realms of the Sky High league on the Swedish Hasbeen site. And it's not because they are hard under foot (not hard at all actually) with the footbed being made of wood - that doesn't seem to come in to it either. It's because the natural grain leather is a little rigid and I think it may take a few wears before they soften up and come in to their own. Or at least I hope I'm right in that way of thinking. Usually I take no prisoners with my feet but every now and then, I am prepared to "try" a little more with a pair of shoes if I love them enough. However, I can say this - they are comfier than some of the other thin soled heels I have so that's a good start. Oh yes and let's not forget! They are beautifully made ... by hand.
I wore them today and I felt totally girly despite wearing "boyish" clothing. I think they take an average outfit and give them a bit of a lift. I even got a whit whoo from a fellow mum who saw me clip clopping along in the playground today.
Uniqlo Shirt (old), Gap Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis (old), Swedish Hasbeens Suzanne (current)
And what I've also noticed when I wear them, is I want to sing :
I saw a mouse!
Where?
There on the stair?
Where on the stair?
Right there!
A little mouse with clogs on
Well I declare!
Going clip-clippety-clop on the stair
Oh yeah!
Because I am an utter child.

Last Note :
- The best price for the Suzannes can be found here.
- The tan and black pair that I have are fantastic for tricking the eye and elongating the leg due to the tan panel at the front of the shoe. This is the best way for me to wear black sandals without them looking too heavy on me.
- Lotta from Stockholm also do a good selection of clogs at a keener price here.
- Any clog lovers out there?
Those are so cute and sexy! I just got rid of my hasbeens-I had been holding on to them for years but they didn't work for me (the closed toe kind just isn't as nice). I do love clogs. I have a pair of fur lined grey jeffrey campbell clog boots that I plan on wearing again some day (when I get off the mountain)!
ReplyDeleteI think you've put your finger on it there - cute but sexy. So not sexy shoes as some people would deem sexy shoes to be but they have a little something.
DeleteAnd fur lined clogs? That's a first - I don't think I've ever seen a pair.

DeleteI'm definitely a clog lover - but I can't do that height, unfortunately. I got a pair from a Swedish site called Hyssna - they're the classic style so a bit hippy-dippy and a bit (i hope) stylish. I think they were about €40. Only problem is that I'm not quite sure I can drive in them.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise they were quite so sky high but once on - they're not that bad because of the platform at the front. I'll have to have a look at Hyssna - I've never heard of them. 40 euros sounds good.
DeleteOh yes - I can actually drive in them - I did for the school run!
I have the heart version in black. I got them in the US vastly reduced a couple of years ago. They are very comfy and now you've reminded me I'm going to get them out of their box this weekend for their first airing of 2015.
ReplyDeleteThe heart version are cute. I'd not seen them before yesterday when I was looking around the Swedish Hasbeens site. Glad to have reminded you of them!
DeleteLove these on you Sue. Would buy a pair tomorrow but my shoe budget is already spent 😉Thanks for the inspiration though xx
ReplyDeleteMy shoe budget was spent a long time ago! But I keep looking at all these lovely pairs of shoes out there and thinking "realistically? how much wear am I going to get out of them" and so I thought I'd get something with a bit more longevity. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
DeleteI think Swedish Hasbeens are such good quality. I bought a pair a few years back and I'll agree, the leather is very sturdy and rigid but I think it will soften after a bit of wear. Love the style you chose Sue! x
ReplyDeleteI have to say, they are beautifully made. The reviews on them have all come to the same opinion as me, the leather is a little stiff but should soften with wear. They are actually a more nude leather but I erred on the side of caution and rubbed a little clear polish on them so they have deepened a fraction ... but are still lovely. And thank you Jamie-Lee - you know how I love your shoe tastes!
DeleteHi Susie. I thought I should let you know your image is being used to sell an item of clothing on EBay. After reading your blog for a while (which I love btw) I'm pretty sure this wouldn't sit right with you so thought I should let you know. If you do a search for the following you should find it.
ReplyDeleteZARA NEW COLLECTION 2015. OFF WHITE FLORAL EMBROIDERED LACE TOP BLOUSE SHIRT

Oonagh
Thank you Oonagh! I will look on the positive side of this and say "Yuss! I made it" as I can't believe that someone would actually want to use my images to sell anything ;o) and then I will take a look in to it this afternoon when I have time to sit down properly. I have let someone use some pictures before (not this particular seller) as they actually contacted me to ask so I thought that was polite and they weren't using any pictures of my face. But thank you for letting me know - it would have been a bit of a shock to see a picture of myself floating around Ebay if I'd been browsing. And thank you for the lovely comments about the blog!
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous on you Sue
ReplyDeleteThank you Fiona. Even with these on, I only come up to your shoulders. Just.
DeleteMmm. Lovely. I have a new pair of Lottas, I was going to get the low heels but a pair of peep toes in steel blue came up in their sale section... They do have very soft leather, but I agree that they are not everyday shoes. I am hoping that the leather stretches a bit too!
ReplyDeleteI might look into some lower, closed toe ones for easier walking/cooler weather. I agree they really pull together a more boyish outfit. Look great with jeans!
I have some lower heeled ones which are a SH for H&M collaboration pair so these are not my first and the leather on those seem softer. No breaking in required. I may have to clop around the house with a pair of socks on to break them in quicker!
DeleteSome of the closed toe ones look really cute. I think I have a compromise pair in that the toe end is closed but exposed so if I haven't done my toes, no one will know. #bonus
Those shoes are nothing short of stunning, Sue! I'm siting on my hands chanting 'I don't need them, I don't need them' :-D xx
ReplyDeleteChants "you need them, you need them". Or at least a lower heeled pair or else you'll be over 6ft.
DeleteAs you know Sue I am not a 'shoe lover' as such but honestly these are absolutely the business - what I'm trying to say is I love these! Love the black and tan together and the wooden heel - not sure I could walk/dance in them but they look totally funky! x
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to walk in these - just sit back and enjoy them. I'm going to :)
DeleteI adore these - you inspired me to wear my Lottas yesterday - they make my calves look fab with the little added height! xx
ReplyDeleteA little heel never hurts honestly. I know that and everyone knows that but I go for comfort most days - I'm getting old Joanna! Anyway, you're one of the lucky people who doesn't need heels to make their legs look better - you're already blessed.
DeleteNot sure that I'm a clog person if I'm honest, but they do look great on you .
ReplyDeleteHa ha Helen. I can almost imagine some sadistic person standing over you trying to extract that statement out of you. But thank you - I take it as a lovely compliment.
DeleteI've never had a good experience with clogs - I think it's due to the way I walk and the fact that the sole has 0 flex! They're cute tho :)
ReplyDeletesteph / absolutely-fuzzy.com
It's funny, I guess they do have zero flex but they are still comfier than a lot of my other heels which I don't even want to wear. These, I want to wear so I will take the discomfort (not that there's much) and soldier on like a trooper.
DeleteThey are gorgeous on you Sue! I have a pair of Lottas winging their way to me care of Lynne! I'm so excited as I've wanted some for ages! x
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so pleased for you. I was following your thread on the Lottas and they have finally found a home with you. I hope to see them on you soon!
DeleteShoe perfection....and you totally rock them. Also - are you fading away on us? You look so teeny tiny in these pictures. Off for a closer look at the link. Ax
ReplyDeleteNot fading away at all - I just ate my way through Amsterdam and I have the gut and the butt to prove it.
DeleteHowever, I took these pics before I went away and I have to say it's down to good camera positioning, the most fabulously cut Uniqlo gingham shirt and the perfect always make you look a bit skinnier pair of khakis any girl could wish for. And yes, leg lengthening heels. That's all Avril :) but we all need a little bit of help!
