Mango Strap Cord Sandals

Wednesday 15 April 2015

Happy strappy.

I nipped in to York yesterday and the first place I dived in was Mango and the first thing that caught my eye were the strappy sandals which have been getting a lot of love all over Instagram and blogsphere. I did have my eye on them but as I couldn't decide on which colour was the best and I was too lazy to order four pairs of sandals and having to return three pairs, I basically did nothing.  As it was, all four colours were in store. The colour of choice for most is the black. I chose the snakeskin. Why? Because they immediately struck me as the most expensive looking out of the batch with black coming a close second. And on top of that, the greyish colour is more flattering on the foot for me and better for elongating the leg-line. Depending on the style of a shoe or sandal, black footwear quite often cuts my legs off at rather unflattering points and make them shorter and stumpier than what they already are. Why add to that eh?

And you know these are staying right? And that I'm not going to change my mind and return them. Because guess what?

I've cut the tags off!

Last Note :

  • For the record, I tried on a few pairs in the different colours - the zip can be a little stiff at the back but I've found that I don't actually need to undo the zip anyway for putting on the sandals as you can loosen the laces enough to slip your foot in.
  • As these are not leather, they can look a little plasticky in certain finishes - pick carefully.
  • They come up quite high on the ankle and may be a little uncomfortable for some. I tried on different colours in the same sizes and some were more comfortable than others - go figure.
  • For once, I'm glad I didn't order online. I definitely needed to see the four different colours in real life as what I thought I was going to go for ended up in fact being my last choice.

    1. I think they've just perked up my wardrobe no end. I like how versatile the colour makes them too. Go on - try some snakeskin for a change. Let Bet have a day off ;o)

  2. I keep trying my tan ones around the house but haven't ventured outside with them yet. I'm so into "snakeskin" lately I would have absolutely chosen those ones had it not been for the black straps (I just don't wear black-I know, freaky!)

    1. You don't wear black. At all? Or just on footwear? I'm not great with black footwear (black suede boots are a no, black suede pumps/courts are a yes). I feel like an exclamation mark!

    2. None. Unbelievable, right?? Navy, gray and tan are my neutrals, and black was completely weeded out. Took me years to figure that out. Honestly black is so harsh on me, makes me look like a small, old sicilian widow. Not a good look!

    1. The Topshop Heaven Gladiator sandals? I did see them but I wasn't anywhere near a Topshop or I would have checked them out. I liked them more in the tan suede style for that shoe though.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Mango ones - to the point, I knew they were a dead cert. And it's not often I can say that about something!

  5. I can't buy anymore in Mango or Zara now until I go on holiday (5 weeks yesterday!!) as I just had a little splurge in both stores.....please let them still have these sandals in stock then! Love this look Sue, I adore snakeskin, it is perfect at bringing a black and white outfit together! xx

    1. Oh my - 5 weeks of abstinence - and then you can go maaadddd! And I remember you had the KG snakeskin espadrilles from last year - they were a brilliant buy. I think they will serve you well this year too.

    1. Try them on again and do not listen to your boys! I say that despite taking my hat off the last time I wore one as they said I looked a bit weird. Thanks boys.

  8. They are gorgeous Sue!! I wish I could wear a simple strap like that but I have a curly pinky on my right foot that would hang out on top of the strap! Hence my need for thongs...these look amazing on you! xx

    1. Aww thanks lovely. I wasn't sure I could get away with these but they looked better on that I could have hoped. I usually like a sandal with a bit more coverage. I certainly wouldn't try a simple slim band like these if they were a heeled sandal - they make your toes splay out weird! I speak from experience there!

  10. Superb choice. Absolutely love them. As I live nowhere near a mango shop I wish you had posted this before I had three hours to kill in the West End on Monday. Can't complain though I had uninterrupted browsing time in Liberty and CoS. I could have added a trip to mango without much difficulty if I'd known

    1. Thank you Sarah - I'm rather pleased with them myself. They make me smile when I put them on and that's always a good sign isn't it that you really like something? But yes, Mango is just round the corner from Liberty and Cos. There's always next time!

  11. I'm so gutted that I have weird thick ankles. I love all the lace up sandals that are around just now, but they do me no favours and seem to instantly shorten me by about a foot! You make these look far more expensive than they are, they're fab! xx

    1. Well I didn't know that about your ankles but I do now! And I don't think that should worry you about sandals like this if you're wearing them with trousers/jeans - you don't see that much of your ankles so you will be just fine #enabler.

    1. Thank you! And thank goodness that I'm doing this photoaday style challenge thing. That certainly helped with what I was wearing that day and the sandals fitted in nicely.

    1. Ha ha - I thought mine would as well or there wouldn't be enough coverage for my feet but they seem to work somehow. You might surprise yourself if you try!

  14. They look gorgeous on you Sue, love the snakeskin, they look super flattering on your tootsies! I wore mine non stop today and they are so comfy, definitely the sandals of the season! Xx

    1. Oh very much the sandals of the season - well anything strappy round the ankle seems to be sandal of the season actually so I've jumped aboard this ship happily. And glad to hear they are comfy for all day wear. I never have to keep anything on all day as I'm usually in the house so I change shoes three or four times a day sometimes. But at least they all get a turn :)

  15. Hi Sue! It is nice to be back in the blogging mood! I just wanted to let you know that I have moved back over to blogger this morning.

Your hair still steals the show though, you know, as lovely as the sandals may be! I also like how you pay such attention to subtle details like the jean cuffs. I always feel kind of slovenly in this respect, I don't think I have the knack.

    1. Hi Louise! Lovely to have you back in blog land - you have been missed! I'll pop over later to go through properly - I'm sure I will have a little natter on there.

And thank you about the hair - I think it's behaving at the moment!

  16. That's the first pair of those strappy shoe/sandal thingys that I actually really like! They look great on you ... I don't know why you say you have fat feet ?? I think they're very pretty indeed (if that doesn't sound too weird, lol!!)

    1. Oh is this another one of those faddy things that you've not been keen on? Like trainers? Well I'm pleased I have your seal of approval! And no - not too weird about the feet ;o)

  17. Sue, I loved these at first sight, and such a great price too? I went for the black initially, they have had a few outings already, but waiting for the legs to get a bit browner! But now seeing the snakeskin on you I may have to go back for a second look!! Helen xx

    1. And have you found the black ones comfy for your outings? Mine have not had much time out yet but I'm sure they will get there as the weather warms up. I do like the black ones but I didn't expect to like the snakeskin ones more - it's just one of those things - when in the shop - go with the gut instinct!

  18. Hi there! Just wondering how these look wrapped around your ankle instead of up the leg? Thinking of getting the tan :) Thanks!!
