Topshop Baxter Jeans

Wednesday 4 March 2015

Stomping through Topshop the other week, I stopped before a pair of washed black Baxter jeans.

I don't do solid black - that would be too neat and clean looking but washed black - yes please! And with no knee rips which is a bonus for me. After too many years of jeans going at the knees - I'm quite liking keeping my knees covered. I bobbed in the changing rooms with them, tried them on, came out and bought them. I'm making jeans buying sound easy aren't I? But it wasn't quite as easy as that. I did take two sizes in and I tried both pairs on twice and I also did some Sumo squats in them for a couple of minutes in the changing room just to test them out for comfort and give before I made my decision. You do that too right?

And I'm quite tickled with the reviews online and how everyone doesn't like them and declares them too short and that they are totally different from the Baxters of old. Well I have to say, I'm glad they've changed them because now I luurrrve them as they're perfect for me! They have turned out to be the perfect full length skinny not too skinny jean for me and I've worn them non stop since I got them. Whoop whoop. And shall we throw a fist bump in there too?   ;o)

Last Note :

  • I bought mine in size 28 waist, 30 length for the perfect full length jean on me. I am 5ft 1.5inches with short legs (gah!) and a size 10 in most things. Any taller than me and these would be an ankle grazer ... which is what I think they should be. Basically order longer than what you would normally.

  1. Changing room sumo squats, thought that was just me who did them! Ha... made me laugh. They suit you and look a great fit. I love Topshop 30 length jeans perfect for me also. X

    1. Sumo squats are de rigeur when trying on jeans! I'm actually delighted with the Baxters - I'm literally having to ban myself from wearing them every day as they are officially my new favourite jeans. I've found that all their 30" ankle grazer length jeans are the perfect full length jeans on me.

  2. Pah, I have wanted a pair of Baxters for YEARS but they never release them for the "tall" section. All we get are glorified jeggings or actual joggers! They look great on you Sue, nice find :)

    1. Ha ha - serves you right for having legs up to your armpits! But all the same - sorry that you don't get the Baxters in your length but on the other hand - you probably can handle all those extra long flares which are coming in this summer!

  3. Being on the short side too Sue, I'll definitely give these 'new' Baxters a go? I do have a couple of old pairs, which are past their best now, but they always had to be rolled up a bit! Don't you just hate being vertically challenged when it comes to buying jeans....I want a flare, but unless I wear them with 6 inch heels they would look like a fish tail on the floor!! Helen xx

    1. Another shortie like me - yes definitely give the Baxter's a go. I have the Jamies which are much more fitted and I like those for tucking in boots and these Baxter's are perfect with trainers or flats without making my legs look too carroty. I've actually bought the M&S front pocket flares - which I have to wear with my highest wedge sandals and still they need a good inch/2 inch off so I think I will be taking the scissors to those. There's not many flares out there for us small ones.

  4. Love these jeans Sue & yes I'm another who always does a few lunges/squats in the changing room after having it drilled into me by my mum saying just check you can sit down in them lol!

    1. If they ever did a top 10 of what people do in changing rooms - I bet sumo squats in jeans would be pretty high up the chart. But yep - your mum's advice is good!

  6. Yep, I'm a secret sumo practitioner too! Actually I do more of an old-fashioned policeman's knee bend type thing, but I know exactly what you mean. I still haven't worked up the courage to do a proper Topshop denim trying session. These look great on you though, I must do it soon... Fist bump right back atcha! :-) xx

    1. Oh no way do I want to do a full on Topshop jean trying on session. These were in my line of fire that's all and didn't look too scary.

      Fist bump :)

    1. Well jean buying is one of those horrors which no one likes and yet we still seem to keep punishing ourselves by going back and doing it time after time. I wonder why that is?

    2. I'm more of a touching toes and knee bending girl! These are the perfect ft on you and a great colour too. I went into both Top Shops in Hull last week to look for Baxters but they only had sizes that Sindy could wiggle into and they chill be ankle grazers on me. I'll have to go to Leeds next week on my day off and punish myself with some jeans shopping, it won't be so bad having a trip to Leeds x

    3. No touching toes - I always go dizzy when I get back up! And yes, I can imagine these are definite ankle grazers for you. I hope you had a good day in Leeds yesterday!

  9. The Baxters are perfect on you Sue! I have a few coloured pairs but I've never tried an actual denim pair! These are now on my hit list for when I have my Topshop competition splurge! xx

    1. Oh you are going to have a whale of a time in London having a splurge. I think I would be overwhelmed with the choice. Lucky lucky you!

  10. Omg - I never do squats in the changing room....that's clearly where i've been going wrong! Love the finish on these but would need a longer leg so I'm going to wait and try them on in-store to make sure the length works for me. I also like a tight ankle...have returned 3 pairs the past week with baggy ankles. And you thought was only you who was fussy?! x

    1. You will be a Jamie girl then. Tight ankles. I reserve the Jamies mainly for boot tucking and the Baxters are for regular shoes. Because we all need different jeans for different footwear don't we?
