Colour Me Happy

Thursday 26 February 2015

Next Coat (very very old), Gap sweatshirt, MiH Paris Jeans, Zatchels Bag, Adidas Stan Smiths

Yup - that's me in a fuchsia pink coat. And I put in three pictures there to make sure that you knew it was me in a fuchsia pink coat.

I grabbed a navy coat to put on the other day but I wasn't feeling it. I looked out of the window, the sun was shining and I had had a good night's sleep after spending the last week hacking my guts up every night and not sleeping. But a visit to the chemist for cough medicine and lozenges and the whole world is looking a lot less sickly. And to reflect my happy mood - I put a happy coat on. A fuchsia pink happy coat.

I've been perusing a few blogs now that I'm back in the land of wifi and the thing that hit me .... a bit of colour goes a long way. Yup, I'm a classic blue, black, grey kind of girl but hey it's okay to freak out every now and then and just wear what you like. And that day, fuchsia pink spoke volumes to me.

And a little more inspiration below from some lovely ladies in their colourful coats ....

Aww ... doesn't the world feel much better and brighter now?

  1. Thank you. I should whip my orange one out shouldn't I. I love the red one Julia has on and I believe it is from Wallis, who'd have thought? This colour is perfect for you Sue. xx

    1. I was just thinking that I hadn't seen your Topshop coat on you for a while and how that would cheer you up! It's such a striking colour - go on - drag it out!

I've been tempted by the Wallis coat but always resisted as I think it would be too big. But Julia is only petite and looks lovely in hers. Ah well - the smallest size has gone now - the moment has gone.

  2. So many fantastic coats! Mine are all neutral but I think I'd like a bright blue or a red one. Or pink. Or green...and back to neutral I go. You see?

Loved the blog suggestions too. Thanks!

    1. I will always default to a neutral as I find them the most versatile but every now and then I have a moment and I had a moment when I succumbed to a fuchsia coat.

I can't say I follow all the blogs I've listed but I thought it would be useful to track back and credit the bloggers where I can. I have found some new ones consequently whilst looking for colourful coat girls.

  4. Oh Sue, that is such an amazing colour on you. Fuschia is difficult colour to pull off for many people but being cool skinned, you do it effortlessly. #fuschiaenvy

    1. Kristina (Shutterbug K below) put her finger on it - the fuchsia colour is leaning towards purple and has a lot of blue undertones in it. I didn't feel comfortable in the F&F shell pink top last year but this is a different shade of pink and this I can get behind. I didn't know fuchsia was a difficult colour. Chartreuse is I can imagine!

  5. You look fab in this Sue - the colour suits you beautifully and offsets your neutral basics a treat!

    I can't believe I don't have a coloured coat!

    1. No way?! Now I would have thought you would have a cobalt blue number stashed away somewhere!

  6. The colour looks great on you Sue - I'd probably pull out a bright red or pink lippie as I don't own a coloured coat! I am quite drawn to the first deeper green coat you've featured here! xx

    1. That first green coat is a gorgeous Maxmara coat I believe. I remember the first time I saw it on Alice and thought "need want hubba hubba". Then I saw "Maxmara" and my dreams were dashed. But yes, the colour is stunning!

    1. Ah but at least it's getting worn! You'll be one of the more colourful ladies walking their dog instead of the usual green/brown/black utilitarian Barbour brigade :) I have to say, nothing wrong with a Barbour - I had one myself.

  8. Look great! I'm so drab with my colour palette clothes wise, I really do need to introduce some colour.

    1. I lighten up as it gears up towards spring and summer. I'm not actually averse to colour though people don't see me in it that much - I just naturally gravitate to the usual suspect colours as they seem so much easier on the eye.

  9. I love a coloured coat! My smart winter one is cobalt blue & I have a short forest green one with a big collar and off centre buttons. Also a thin linen one the same colour as you are wearing here - it always garners so many compliments!

    1. I find that I get more compliments when I wear something "bright" and I've had sales assistants asking me before where I bought my coat from. That's when you know it has an "oomph" factor.

And I am getting my head around colour - I've bought a bright sweatshirt recently which quite surprised me.

    1. I really should wear it a little more. It only made one appearance last year I think. I might up it to two this year! It's ironic that the day I wore it, on the school run in the afternoon - it poured down :(

  11. I spied a lady at hockey practice tonight in a fantastic cobalt blue coat and literally followed her all the way up the vast car park so I could get a closer look of her coat. Slightly weird behaviour granted. But I think get the colour right and a bright coat has such an impact. Your Fuschia coat is one of those pieces that gets you noticed in a good way.

    1. Not at all weird. I have been known to do similar to really "appreciate" how someone is dressed or if my eye has been drawn to a garment someone is wearing. Hubs thinks I'm mad.

  12. I like that it leans more toward the purple than pink. Hope the fuschia coat gets more screen time on here Sue :)

    1. You're totally right about the purpley hue to the coat - it's probably what makes it work for me. I hear that purple is a colour which suits everyone.

  15. You are rockin' the fushia Sue! You would have thought with all the coats I have there would be a least one colourful one....but no! That's another hole to fill then! I think it would definitely get me in the mood for Spring! xx

    1. It's the brightest thing in my coat wardrobe by far. I'm not sure they are for everyone and if it wasn't for the fact that this is infact a really old coat, I don't think I would have thought that much about getting one. I think you're doing fine with the coat collection you have currently!

  18. Sue love that color coat on you and I am very tempted to get, wait for it.... A YELLOW COAT!!, I have seen a few pics as well as the gorgeous ones you featured here. Only problem which shade of yellow?!! Helen xx

    1. It depends on your skin tone as well as to whether you needed a warmer or a cooler shade but personally I love the shade in the last yellow coat picture - it's a little "mustardy".

And I think you will have to try a few yellow coats to find "the one".

  20. I do love a good colourful coat - I'm not sure what it is about yellow but it always comes across as so happy!

Your magenta one is kinda incredible Sue - you should wear it more often!

    1. Yellow is one of my favourite colours but I haven't worn it for a while. I hope to remedy that this year.

And thank you - I like "magenta" I think that's a more accurate description!
