Back in the Land of Wifi

Wednesday 25 February 2015

Hi!

Hi. Did you miss me? I missed you guys. And I tell you what ... I really missed my wi-fi. Last week was half term and we disappeared to Wales to stay in a cottage with a pool table, a hot tub, a jacuzzi and no wi-fi. I would have happily given up the pool table, the hot tub and the jacuzzi and just had the wi-fi instead ;o) You don't realise your dependency on staying in touch with the outside world until it's not there. As it was, I had a couple of opportunities to grab 5 mins here and there in the odd cafe and to catch up with what people were up to. I just needed to reassure myself that I wasn't missing out on anything. I wasn't but I just needed wi-fi to know it.

Anyway, this meant that instead of a half term with the boys being glued to tech for entertainment, they had to do regular stuff like going to a zoo, learn to play pool, going for steam train rides ....

Ben on a train looking for wi-fi.

and walks on the beach

 Playing "Hunt the wi-fi"

No wi-fi here!

nor here!

or here!

I found the most wonderful interiors shop which was housed in an old chapel which was a visual delight for the eyes and made me want to redecorate my whole house from scratch.

And we let the boys have ice cream despite it being 5 degrees.

Yum!

which was really our way to soften the blow that there was no wi-fi where we were staying .... at ALL. For a week.

Nooooo! No wifi for a week?!?!?!

Anyway, we are now back in the land of wi-fi and life is as it was originally. I get to wear something other than the below staples - it's hard to pack 7 days winter wear in a case the size of a carry on!

I told you I was a fair-weather fashionista! Boring but warm.

I think I might crack out something a little more colourful tomorrow!

  1. It's amazing how much you take wifi for granted isn't it Sue until you can't access it & you do feel totally cut off from what's happening. We felt totally at a loss when the wifi at home as gone down.
Looks like you had a fab half term.

    1. I totally took it for granted how much I walked round with my phone just checking in on things like my email. I kind of missed it going "ding" to tell me that something was happening out there like 20% off ASOS last week :o( But it's strange, it was four days before I got a whiff of wi-fi and I just needed it for 5 mins to get all the emails down and then the world was okay again. I just needed to know what was going on even if it wasn't a lot!

  2. Hilarious! Hot tubs are overrated, not to mention pool tables.

That shop on the other hand is dreamy....

You didn't miss any promo codes from Mango btw, I've been watching for both of us;)

    1. Hot tubs - pleasant enough whilst in there but getting out is not fun - brrrr! And whilst you're sitting in one, you get a hot bod and a cold head - weird. The pool table managed to keep the boys entertained for a while and they even got quite good towards the end as we had a tournament at the end and I won ... by default. I got the £2 prize! And yes, that shop was a delight! I think it was my highlight - well it was the nearest I got to retail therapy apart from the Co-op for provisions!

And bless you - that made me laugh about the discount code. Yep - give me a shout as soon as you hear!

  3. no wi-fi sounds good in practice, but the reality is a bit more challenging, I still can't buy anything without doing a quick recce online first. That interiors shop is lovely, I like the retro scandi feel.

    1. It's easy to go in thinking it's quite do-able but you don't realise how much you use your mobile, your laptop or just check in on things. I'd like to say that I weaned myself off it quite well by the end but to be honest, when I came home, I had to make a big cup of tea, log on and then lose myself for a while catching up. It's weird and slightly disconcerting.

The interiors shop is fabulous - the setting was just perfect, the colours on the wall just set off the wares and it made me go around thinking I need to repaint the whole house to the lovely duck egg shade it was on the walls. Susceptible - moi - oui!

  4. We're shocking, we rent wifi at the airport. Comes in a tiny little case that you can carry. So wifi on the beach, in the car, even in the supermarket. Lovely, lovely pictures Sue. Looks as if you had an amazing time despite the lack of technology x

    1. Oh my word! You can rent wi-fi! I have never heard of this! It comes in a case! That is a game changer!

And thanks about the pics - we did all right through the holiday. They ate a lot of ice cream though.

    1. It's amazing how social media gets you hooked. We lost wifi at home over Christmas for a day but I could handle that because at Christmas, I tend to switch off from it and assume people are doing the same and doing stuff with their family. The boys were climbing the walls though :o/ I think it's one thing when it's a choice thing to switch off and another thing when it's enforced. Believe me, I wouldn't have picked somewhere with no wifi! And yes, that's the beloved Zara parka - it's still holding up well. I couldn't have managed the week without it - there were some rather chilly days last week! It looks a bit like the Canada Goose Trillium parka you featured in one of your recent posts!

  7. rofling at your captions, and Totaly. In. Awe. of your ability to co-ordinate your entire family's holiday wardrobe with the cottage you were staying in. I can't compete with that level of attention to detail...Oh, and I would probably die without access to wifi for more than about ten minutes. I feel your pain. xx

    1. That wasn't the cottage I was standing outside of! That's the Barmouth Ferry Station/Harbour cafe hut we were taking shelter in! It was bitter out there. Totally utterly freezing. And I can't believe you thought I'd co-ordinated our wardrobes to match - I grabbed anything that was clean before we headed out and that was it. I can do about 6 hours of no wi-fi quite easily - when I'm asleep!

    1. Nice to be back! Well I keep de-toxing the boys but somehow never quite manage to apply the same rules to myself - now I know how hard it is. I was feeling quite sorry for them by the end of the week and besides, we managed to get Ben to read 2 books. #result

    1. It's a really lovely place actually - it needs to be visited more in the summer because everything looks that much better in the sunshine doesn't it? And funny how you should mention horses - I have a picture of George brushing a pony as we also visited an animalarium aka zoo but had a few ponies.

  11. Love this post, made me laugh out loud! We do get so dependent on wifi don't we. I've not checked my emails all day as back to back work and I came home nearly freaking out that I had a days worth to catch up on. All os ok now though as I've done them and raised my invoice and clients notes, phew. Was it really that tough - I'm just not sure I could do it.....??!?! But I feel there needs to come a time when I do! x

  12. Lovely photos, Sue. It's sometimes refreshing to be wi-fi free I think. When we camp, it's sometimes not available and I quite enjoy the freedom it brings. Though I do begin to crave it and feel like I'm missing out, as you said! Lynne xx

  13. I would readily give up all the Wi-Fi in the world for a nosey in that interior store! I sometimes feel like I *could* give up the contemporary, online world for a secluded country life, but I think it would probably drive my husband batty because how else would I look up big words and plot outlines for boring books and directions to good restaurants? How on earth would I survive without Google Maps? I'd be lost forever... literally.

  14. After being in relationship with Barry for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem and who is different from all the fake ones out there. Anybody could need drakugbespellhome1@gmail.com the help of the spell caster, his email:you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or anything he also help me to win $500,000:00 for lotto game.I CAN NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT YOU SIR HIS EMAIL:drakugbespellhome1@gmail.com
