Not Me.

Wednesday 10 December 2014

This is the Instagram pic where the Grumps left a comment of "OMG" and put an emoji of a monkey with his hands over his eyes alongside it. Hmmm. So I guess that means he doesn't like it then. Put it this way, he didn't like my photo. Well ... I like it ... but I didn't buy it ... even though I liked it ... because .... well, it wasn't really me. But I had to try it on to get it out of my system. You know how it is - some things are just not you, but you just have to prove it to yourself.

H&M Sweatshirt (it weighed a ton with all those pink beads on).

He liked this pic though ...

M&S Coat (old), Grey Lambswool Scarf (Ebay), Jigsaw bag (Ebay), Jigsaw PomPom

.... a bit easier on the eye methinks. Back to the greys. Back to the comfort zone. Back to me being me. I will break out at some point though.

Last Note :

  • I felt a need to go back to a simpler style of scarf after seeing the flurry of checks around currently and decided a nice big lambswool scarf was the way to go for me. But I wanted one as big as the Acne Canada scarf but obviously didn't want to pay out the money for it. So I sourced mine on Ebay from this seller. The dimensions are similar and it is lovely and warm. Is it comparable to the Acne scarf? I don't know - I've never seen or touched one in real life :o)

  1. I hate to say it but I think I agree with your hubby. I often have to get something off my chest to get it out of my mind so completely get the need to give things a whirl. By the way I sometimes get a little money for Christmas and if I do I have promised myself I'm buying an Acne Canada. If I don't ...well I know where to go. Great tip.

    1. It's okay - I can take it! Sob! Just joking - I knew it wasn't my thing. It's a nice piece but for someone else. I can do colour but this isn't right for me. And I will be jealous when you get your Acne Canada but I have to say this one did keep me all snuggly today as it was positively arctic.

  2. Your comfort zone look works for me, every time, but I rather like the H&M sweatshirt too. xx

    1. Same here Helen. I like the sweatshirt but not on me. I was watching the Liberty programme and there was a girl on there in an office with a bright sweatshirt on (probably Other Stories) and it just really stood out and struck me how interesting she looked in amongst the more "normal" outfits. So ... one sweatshirt later ... well, you know me - back to the greys!

  3. Yep, best to get these things out of your system Sue, something I've only recently discovered but means my rate of returns is probably on a par with yours now! xx

    1. Makes me feel so much better Michelle to know you're giving me a run for my money on the rate of returns. But sometimes you don't know till you try!

  4. It's so true! I'm going through the same thing with this faux fur business - deep down it's not really me BUT have to prove it to myself beyond reasonable doubt lol! Besides men are more straight forward and they do prefer to recognise us afterall :-)

    1. Well how do you know if you don't try? Sometimes these things can really surprise you ... and sometimes they can really scare you. However, I do think that would suit a fur coat - it's just finding the right one - the right shade, the right type of fur, the right shape. It's not easy.

  5. I really like the pink and purple on you! Looks very youthful and you can definitely carry it off.

    1. Thank you - it was quite an interesting thing to do and much as I liked it - I knew I wouldn't wear it - it was too heavy on and it didn't really feel like me when I looked in the mirror. But you have to do these things!

  6. I love the colours, but it just looked strange! Is it because we're not used to seeing you in something so bright? Or maybe it's that you've got your style nailed down now and when you stray from that, it just doesn't compute? I don't think I'd go as far as the Grumps comment, but I do think you look better in your grey :)

    1. I think people have got used to seeing me in very simple items of clothing. I don't wear much in the way of pattern which isn't to say I don't like pattern - I used to buy a lot more of it but less so these days - I feel like I attract attention when I have pattern on me. But I think you are totally correct - I look and feel better in more subdued clothing.

Now just picture the same sweatshirt on Frances on Schoolrunstyle. The sweatshirt colours are so her!

  7. I tried on a pair of half magenta half cobalt trainers for the same reason today. What you have on is the sweatshirt version of those! My husband didn't even have the pleasure of seeing me in them, they're already packaged in their box ready to be returned...

  9. P.S. The reason it looks funny is those are "spring" colors when you're clearly a "winter" in seasonal color analysis! You are the lucky season that looks great in black, white, grey, icy and jewel colors....not bad!

    1. That's a really useful and helpful analysis - thank you! I never really thought of it like that as I've never had my colours done - I've always bought instinctively. I'm generally drawn to more subdued/muted shades though I do have the odd freak out colour item (scarlet dress, fuchsia coat, bright yellow jumper to name a few). And I like all the colours you mention .. brill.

  10. Crikey, I dread to think what would happen if my husband was on Instagram! Fwiw I like the sweatshirt, but I think it's wearing you, rather than vice versa. Love the scarf *hides link*

    1. He just rolls his eyes at me most of the time. Sometimes I have to be careful incase I instagram from somewhere like a changing room and he happens to look on his phone and he knows what I'm up to. He once sent me a text message to say "what are you up to in Jack Wills?".

  11. Hi Sue - totally get the urge to try something out of your comfort zone on to get it out of the system and effectively prove (yourself) a point! I do that sometimes as well. I even bought something I knew I won't wear even if somebody pays me to once only to return a day later - just had to have it in my possession for that one day and see myself in it!
I much prefer you in your beloved greys, even though bright colours look great on you. Love the slouchiness of the sweatshirt btw, if only their plain versions looked as cool style-wise!

    1. I do it all the time - buy something and know already that it's not staying but I have to exorcise it out of my system. Glad to hear you're the same and besides, there's no point in having something which you have no intention of wearing really. I have to say, I usually pull something on in grey and I usually feel like I've come home - it's like a default setting.

  13. haha i know exactly what you mean. i have these occasional moments where i feel like throwing on some peter pilotto or mary katranzou level prints. it goes away after a while though :) i do like that sweater, the fact that those bits are beads - must feel nice and weighty and lush! as for scarves i caved and got the foxy roxy from wool and the gang... in tweed grey! it's proportions are gigantic and i seriously can't wait for winter so i can wear it all the time. i like your scarf here too, something about that textured heathery grey just totally does it for me!
