Christmas Jumpers

Sunday 19 October 2014

Right. We're in mid October, the temperatures have dropped and the shops are now filling up with Christmas jumpers. To get the best of the pick, you need to start now. Personally I'm not going down the Christmas pudding or robin on the front kind of jumper but I'm partial to a bit of Norwegian, Scandi, Sarah Lund chic. Or even a bit of Fair Isle. A bit like the one  Talisker is getting (but maybe a little less colourful).

Now that's class don't you think?

Alternatively, I would be quite happy with this one ....

Cheer up love! It might never happen!

  • Debs - do you take human orders?

  1. Love that Plumo jumper, Sue. I only just discovered Plumo but I now love it! Watching out for the sale! You can't beat a good (tasteful) Christmas jumper. Lynne x

    1. I do love Plumo stuff but it can be a little pricey at times. I still have a pair of pyjamas which the hubs bought me years and years ago from there and even I went "ooof" at the price then. But the stuff they have is lovely - a little bit less mainstream. Yep, keep your eyes peeled for the sales but they still don't go down much.

  2. Loving the Plumo jumper but it can be knitted for a fraction of the price. Come on girls, get your knitting needles out. Might take orders when I eventually give up work Sue but for now just knitting for Nigel and the doglets x

  3. Yep, you're absolutely right. An early start is necessary or you end up with the garish dross. I'm thinking a soft subtle grey number with pretty little stars. Oh what the hell, a Christmas jumper is a Christmas jumper. Might go for bells, whistles and the whole pippy show!!

    1. I tried last year and came home with a Coca Cola sweatshirt saying "holidays are coming" and then returned it (surprise, surprise). I could see you with a big reindeer on your front Donna ... NOT!

  4. Love Talisker, but he looks slightly embarassed by the whole affair! Not sure ready just yet to jump on the Xmas sweater bandwagon tho xx

  5. Love the sweater, but...ouch...the price.
I actually got quite a few jumpers this season, but not the Xmas one yet. I think I'm gonna go down Fair Isle route.

    1. The price is ouch isn't it? I keep looking for cheaper alternatives but I've not found any so far. Fairisle is good - I've looked at a few but none which have got me really interested yet. I will probably do what I always do and miss the boat again because I will feel all festive in the last week leading up to Christmas when it will be too late to pick up anything half decent. Or I could give it a miss altogether!

    2. I've been browsing Boden today and they have some fairisle ones in "new in" section. I know you're a picky shopper, but maybe have a look? The colour scheme is more pastel, but the quality seems nice. I might take a plunge myself.

    1. It never gets properly cold enough for you then? Whereas as soon as the temperature dips here, I have a blanket on my knee in the evenings, the heat tech is on, the down jacket comes out and so it goes on. Yup ... I feel the cold.

  7. Talisker is so darn cute....and he is rockin' the Christmas sweater!! I'm not likely to invest in a Christmas jumper but I could most definitely see myself wearing something Fair Isle-ish as a nod to this Christmas trend ;0) The Plumo sweater is totally gorgeous and would look fab with some boyfriends and of course the Stan's! xx

    1. I have now picked up two Fair Isle jumpers and am trying to decide between them both. Of course both look nothing like the Plumo one - that would be asking too much. Decisions, decisions.

  8. I nearly died last year when my eldest and her now hubby turned up for lunch in jumpers his mum had made in bright green with red trim complete with bells and everything, so bad they were good! x

    1. I saw the ones in Toast whilst I was browsing and I think I have managed to snaffle something which is not dissimilar though the fit and everything might be a little different. I was hoping to find something darker like the Plumo one but you can't always have what you want can you?

And I've just paid a visit to your blog - such lovely pictures - I was quite absorbed following your little photo journeys.

  11. Cutie pie pups! I love that sweater, the pattern and the shape.
These days I always have to check for the itch factor at the neckline, but this one looks yummy and soft

  12. Hi Sue - try this one from Gharani Strok (available at TkMaxx for a third of its original price):

They also have it in light beige but I personally prefer the grey version.
I tried it in store yesterday and absolutely loved it, although don't typically wear patterns! It's wonderfully soft (mix of merino and cashmere, in fact one could think its 100% cashmere), thick and quite densely knitted, which is a great wearability factor). I think it's very you :)
    Best wishes, Irina xx

    1. Hi Irina - ooh - thanks for the lovely recommendation. I shall have to check it out - I was just wondering about the neckline as it's quite high - was it tight on you on the neck - I'm one of those who has to yank the neckline about to make sure it's loose enough or else they irritate me. It sounds brilliant on the softness front though as you mention it's soft - some of them come up quite itchy sometimes. But yes - it's very me! Thank you!

    2. Hi Sue - not tight at all, I promise! I've got exactly the same problem and don't own any roll or polo necks, they just suffocate me, I don't normally even look at them twice in the shops. My combo is a round or V neck with a scarf (weather permitting)! This one isn't a classic polo neck, the neck is soft, wide and most importantly not too high, doesn't feel restrictive as a typical polo at all. I hope you like it if you decide to go for it! Best, Irina
