Because Stan's the Man!

Adidas Stan Smiths, Susie Ho Bracelet,

Nghghghghg. Ngghghghg. Nghghghghgh. Nghgghghghhg. Grrrrrr. Nghghghghg.

Those weird tortuous noises? That's me fighting the good fight with all my might against getting a pair of Adidas Stan Smith's and failing miserably. I mulled over and rationalised that this was one shoe trend I wasn't getting in to. Heck I even pinned High Fashion Goddess Phoebe Philo with said Stans on my Pinterest last year and still I managed to resist. Infact I told myself - just don't go there, don't get sucked in! I even said on a previous post that I was eschewing the white trainer trend! And then for no good reason, I pulled in to Schuh and said to the Sales Assistant, do you have a pair of these in a size 4 waving a pair of Stan's in the air. She checked and she did. And I thought to myself "so let's see what's all the fuss about!" fully believing I would not be swayed by them at all. And so I tried them on ... and bought them. And have worn them with everything ever since!

Like I said, I fought the good fight but we are talking shoes at the end of the day and with shoes, I am powerless to resist.

Nghghghghg. Ngghghghg. Nghghghghgh. Nghgghghghhg. Grrrrrr. Nghghghghg.

  2. Great minds, we even have the same ones on the same day! Now I just need more pics of you in them so I can then go away and totally copy!

  3. I succumbed too Sue! Wish I had sooner......had no idea how useful they would be (rain, rain and more rain!) and how easily they would bring the wardrobe bang up-to-date!! In fact they've given my plan for Autumn/Winter plan another lease of life with a couple of purchases to tie a few more outfits together! I do love it when a plan comes together!! xx

    1. I know, sometimes I'm just stubborn but I don't think I really needed them over the summer as I enjoyed wearing my espadrilles but this transitional weather is perfect for the Stans. I can even wear socks with them with some of my full length jeans and keep my feet warm - what's not to love?

  4. I think you had to, and I am not surprised you have worn them lots with different things as they totally fit in with your simple, cool style.

    1. They have slotted in really well actually and I can wear them in the rain too with them being leather. Between them and the grey felted skate pumps - I think I'm almost sorted on the footwear front. Almost.

  5. Hoorah! You got them! I now need them in this colour as well as the green I got a few months back. I have never fallen so in love with something ever in my life!

    1. I can see why you love yours so much - I'm getting on with these in a way I didn't get on with my first pair of NB's (the burgundy ones). They just work don't they and I am a sucker for pale/white footwear actually so these are perfect. And if I get bored - my sis will have them - she loves a white trainer even more than me.

  6. You make me giggle - good for you - they are ace - I love mine and even got stopped by someone admiring them the other day!

    1. Ha ha! I knew it was! You got the green ones didn't you? I got the navy as they blend in to my wardrobe a lot better.

  8. Ooh, good call! I love them! And now I want them too. Just bought myself a new pair of Nike high-tops (platforms), but now I'm thinking we should just call October Sneaker Month and go all the way. Love love love them.

    1. So are you getting a pair? Navy or green?

    2. I would go navy for sure. But of course I went down the rabbit hole after reading your post and started looking at white tennies, and kind of fell for the Nike Ultra Force Low. http://www.schuh.eu/womens-white-nike-ultra-force-low/1959161020 Never would have thought I'd be attracted to this sort of shoe but here I am! What is this Schuh place anyway? I've never heard of it, we definitely don't have it here, but it seems like they ship all over the EU...

    3. Those are seriously good too - they were on my shortlist too as they are even plainer i.e. no navy or green detailing. Schuh is just one of the shoeshops we have over here who seem to stock a lot of branded footwear - they have a fab 365 day return policy - beat that!

  9. I do like them really I do but I have so many other shoes and boots that I'd always choose over them. I'll settle on enjoying you wearing them Sue x

    1. Actually I'm finding I'm doing exactly the opposite. I'm ignoring my other footwear for these!

  10. Yep Sue they look the business on you...sometimes you really want to keep away from a trend.......but then when you eventually succumb you realise what all the hype was about!! Xx

    1. If I hadn't walked in to Schuh - I would have been okay. But I walked in to Schuh and the rest is history.

  11. They're pretty slick. Are those the patch work jeans by any chance? :) Also your sweater is <3

    1. Yes to the jeans and they go a treat with the Stans as I picked the navy trim version. The sweater is actually a cardigan - I shall show another day!

  12. Good choice! I wear mine far too much! I really can't begin to tell you how many pairs of trainers I have, it's sooooooo many. But I wear my Stan Smiths more than any of the others. Oh and I bought some patch jeans today, not the MiH ones sadly. But some 501's if you fancy a look at them!

    1. I think I know which jeans - they're on Atterley Road aren't they? I hope they're long enough for you when you receive them!

And I think I've worn my Stans more than my burgundy NB's since I've got them. For some reason, I never liked the way they looked on my feet and I ended up using them for a bit of walking and the odd bit of exercise (cycling). I still like my grey NB's though.

  13. Yeah, that's the ones. They won't be long enough, I'll just turn them up. :D I have the grey NB's, I'm a trainer addict!

  14. Oh me too although I really don't think I will be getting a pair of these - honest!

    1. Are you sure? Mind you, you're eking the wear out of your NB's aren't you unlike me? At least there comes a point when I can hand mine down to Ben as my colours are fairly neutral.

  15. It makes me chuckle that these are a trend now. I love adidas trainers (in fact I only wear adidas) and chucked my Velcro versions away recently as they'd had it after 8 years. They do look great as they are so simple. Perfect choice for your style from what I can tell :)

I want some new Gazelles or Sambas now. Thinking about it, my adidas trainer love must stem from seeing my Dad rock them in the 80s when I was a kid. He also had a perm but I've never succumbed, ha ha!!

    1. Stay with the Adidas love - that's a good thing to inherit from your Dad but step away from the perm!

  16. i feel like i need to tell you that the adidas site lets you customise your own stan smiths for about $100. possibly US-only. i have a shipping address and i have purchased from adidas before so i know that works. the only thing that's been stopping me is... what colour!? so many options! Nghghghghgh!

    1. Now you see - I wouldn't be able to decide if there was too much choice. It's like paint colours, instead of going through the whole Dulux mix your own spectrum, I usually get a small paint chart (like Farrow & Ball) and pick off that instead. Narrows it down so much more. I remember telling that to a man who was scratching his head in B&Q (DIY store in the UK) when he looked totally lost at the paint display before him.

  17. Are they comfy, Sue? I'm looking for new sneakers and the chunkier sole on these seems appealing for Autumn/Winter (more protection against wet pavements). x

    1. Fen, these are super comfy and will blend seamlessly in to your existing wardrobe. These will just be the hardcore version of the white plain plimsolls you favour in the summer months. I've tried not to be precious with mine (I might have played a little football yesterday in them) and I think they look better when not too pristine. Not quite white Converse loved, but loved enough to take the newness off. I do wear them when it's damp outside - they are leather and wipeable too.
