Suspicious Minds

Friday 22 November 2013

I was having a cup of Earl Grey and a browse through the Matches website when I spotted this  ....

.... which promptly took me back to my singleton days when I used to bop around my living room doing a Sunday morning clean to Fine Young Cannibals and their version of Suspicious Minds. I bopped to a lot of things but this was one of my faves. It does stop you cleaning though it has to be said because I always had to do a funny shuffly leg dance a la FYC style around the room to this and this is not conducive to effective cleaning.

Elvis is good, Elvis is king but Roland makes me want to get my groove on. Defy you not to hum this for the rest of the day :

And in the sea of  God-awful 80's fashion that there was around, Roland in his white shirt was a breath of fresh air? Yes? By, the way, I'm ignoring the blip of a gold suit which makes an appearance half way through.

Happy Friday.

Last Note :

  • Bet you young folk have never heard of The FYC's have you? Some of you weren't even born when this came out. Pah!

    1. Oh good - there's more people out there who remember them than I thought they would and I kind of guessed you'd definitely would be one - you're a bit of a music boff aren't you? I mean that in a nice way of course.

  7. Alas, yes I am too, old enough to remember them!

Also giggling at the mention of Matches. Many moons ago pre having a child and dog, I had a life. It sounds very glamorous (but it was before Notting Hill was very glamorous) but we lived in Ladbroke Grove and would wander down to the Matches store for a nose around.

Celebrating a nice windfall of commission from work I 'invested' in a pair of Helmut Lang short heeled stiletto boots. Oh how I loved those boots. Until one day I decided to (show off) and wear them for work, only to get stuck in between the paving stones outside Farringdon tube station... in the rain.

A rather nice young gentleman had to first help me remove thus boot from my leg/foot, and then watch as I wept whilst he tried to twist and turn the heel and free it from the pavement. Long story short the heel snapped off and that was the end of my ridiculously expensive boot habit :-)

I do however look back on those days fondly, so thank you for the funny fashion memory xxx

    1. I have a similar tale where I had a little pair of stilettos at an age when I was too young to have them and my dad did not approve. I got stuck in the crack of a pavement and had to pretend that I had "dropped" something on the floor which I was trying to pick up whilst surreptitiously trying to prise my heel out of the pavement crack. Because we don't like to admit our dads are right do we?

    1. We still have a bop on a Saturday morning when the Grumps feels the need to inflict his weird music on us. He puts it on full belt and then we have a head mosh and the boys look at us with that look that says "are parents are weirdos". Particularly effective if you want to do a head mosh with Blurs Song 2.

    1. Elvis is good but not quite so "danceable" to. So I think FYC win this round :o)

I have a little soft spot for Elvis too. Brings a tear to my eye when I hear "In the Ghetto".
