K.I.S.S. in a Whistles Graphic Sweatshirt

Wednesday 23 October 2013

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Or we could have the nice version which is Keep It Simple Sue.

Whistles Graphic Sweatshirt, Zara Jeans, Mulberry Bag, Next Pumps

A white sweatshirt. How criminally impractical. But I love it. I can't go near children in it. What a shame.  :o)

Some of you are dying to stick a scarf on it. Some of you are dying to stick a statement necklace on it. I am dying to do none of that.

I am just going to keep it seriously simple.

I did also try it not so simple :

Matalan Skirt, Next Boots (old), Burberry Scarf

Just to prove that I have legs. And that I sometimes wear bottoms which aren't jeans. And just to try something different :o)

--------------------------

Last Note :

  • I didn't keep the skirt. I decided I wanted a skirt after seeing all the skirts featured in the Zara Lookbook and then woke up and smelt the coffee i.e. I don't like wearing skirts. So I returned it but I thought I'd show you the pics any way.

  1. I almost bought that sweatshirt during the summer and am feeling the love now once more. It's gorgeous and I agree. Textured stuff like that I prefer to wear without accessories. And good call on the skirt...you suit your jeans so much better. Much more youthful. I can't do skirts either...they make me feel like I should be at work. And I don't like to feel that way!
PS Your coat has featured on my blog tonight...and I'm about to log on to do the bank transfer. In case you were wondering when this silly bint was going to pay you! x

    1. That reads like a drunken comment....full stops and capitals where they shouldn't be. I only had one drink guvnor...honest!

    2. I know which look I am most happy in and it definitely doesn't involve a skirt. And you're right, skirts these days do make me feel a little too grown up and back in the work place. When I think about it, I dress younger now than when I was younger. And yes, I gave in to the sweatshirt despite all my reservations. Will probably regret it when I get my first splash of soup on it or it pills but until then ....

  2. I have to 'really' be in the mood to wear a skirt (especially in cold weather) - and that doesn't happen very often (as you may know) - funny isn't it? Your whole stance is so much more relaxed in the jeans and love the texture on the sweatshirt. Don't wear it out to have a curry though! :)

    1. Skirts in the winter time means tights and I really don't like tights very much. I struggle with them and find myself hoicking them up every two mins - no different from my jeans then eh? And deffo will not wear the sweatshirt when eating curry.

  3. Oooh...you got the Zara boyfriend jeans too. Aren't those rips just grand? Makes me feel like a teenager again :P Hah! Great minds think alike or maybe I should say, birds of a feather etc etc.... I was eyeing the Whistles sweatshirt too. I can't do white but that didn't stop me from admiring it from afar.

    1. You ladies are making me so jealous with those jeans. I'm going to see if I can run out today and find them!

    2. Have not had them off my backside since I got them. They have been the boyfriend jeans I've been looking for all year and believe me I have tried on boyfriend jeans till they have been coming out of my ears. And how English are you sounding these days Marlene "aren't those rips just grand". LOL.

    3. I've been pracitising my "English". Can't you tell? I even add a few Blimeys, Crikeys to my sentences these days.

  4. Sweatshirt envy!! You have done so well in Whistles of late....this is another lovely, lovely purchase!!

Love you in jeans too.....not a fan of skirts myself either, they just don't work for my lifestyle!! x

    1. Whistles has been my shop this season. But they have had a strong collection. Last winter, Mango had the coup with theirs and Zara hit the mark in the spring/summer. Wonder whose turn it will be next.

And you're right about the skirts - don't work for my lifestyle either.

  5. So, yeah, I am extremely jealous of those perfectly distressed perfectly slouchy jeans and I want them NOW. But also, that sweatshirt is perfection. Seriously simple, but also so bold and graphic in this subtle way... Seriously Sue, I covet this entire outfit. Oh and ps - you've added a notifier?! Hooray!!!!!

    1. Defne - if you can't get them in store, this is the link for them http://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/jeans/trf/skinny-trousers-with-rips-c498022p1294521.html. I was browsing around the store and then noticed them and then wondered if they were the same as Marlenes and it turns out they are. They were the first pair I've put on in an age where I felt happy in them. And the sweatshirt, oh I've been after it for so long - just so simple and such a nice change from the grey and the blues. In real life, it looks really clean and fresh but like you say the graphic details just gives it an edge to take it out of the norm. They have some other seriously cool (how seriously uncool do I sound for saying seriously cool) sweatshirts on there too which I think might float your boat. My only reservation, it's 100% polyester which might pill which is why I dithered so long but I didn't see any nicer white sweatshirts out there so time will tell ... and then I may cry but until then, I will enjoy it.

    2. Ooh, thanks for that link! I was surprised to see that they're skinnies, they look like perfect slouchy boyfriend jeans on both of you. I may not be able to squeeze into them but I am definitely going to give it a try. As for the sweatshirt, I wouldn't worry too much about the poly-ness of it. Sometimes something is just too good to care about the other details, so just get as much joy out of it as much as you can while it lasts!

And how great is this, you reply and I get an email! I will never miss a comment again ;)

    3. Well they're not skinnies as I know them. They are the perfect relaxed slim which is so much more flattering. If in doubt order your usual and the size above - free delivery and returns over £50 in the UK (maybe where you are too?) and two pairs will take you there. And then you can play with them to your hearts content in the comfort of your own home.

    4. And I didn't add the notifier - it's just a recent thing which just came on but for which I am grateful as I wouldn't have known what to do.

    5. Ha! Well, I am grateful as well. So handy! And I will definitely check out the jeans, thanks!

  6. Aah you got that Whistles sweatshirt you were after, not being a 100% cotton didn't put your fussy self off, I am glad as it looks good on you! slightly regret not getting it now.

    1. AnnMarie - you knew you wanted a grey sweatshirt and I don't think you're one of those that gets swayed easily. It's got to be totally right for you. I did put my fussiness to one side and I hope it's worth it. This one was heart over head. Sometimes you've just got to go with it.

  7. Skirts suck! I am going to try my leather one, at some point, but I don't hold out much hope. I think you look rinkydink in your' skirt but if you are not comfortable that is fair enough. I love the sweatshirt and I love the plain and simple styling the best. H xx

    1. It's the whole tights thing more than the skirt. I can wear a skirt in the summer and it feels right but in the winter when you've got layers up top and then you feel like you're wearing layers below as well. But watch me eat my words when I rock up in another skirt :o)

  8. I also looked at this sweatshirt but felt my zara one was too similar, now I'm gutted, I love it and it's not similar at all, seeing it on you! xx

    1. I must have missed the Zara one - would like to have seen that one. I liked this one because of the fit - not too big, not too loose though I did size down as I would have said the sizing was generous on this. Sometimes you just go with it. Feels nice to wear something so light on these dreary days.

  9. You'er definitely a jeans girl - I love it when you know you're winning formula.t I'm better with trousers too but I do like to get the legs out occasionally;)

    1. You look great in jeans and skirts - you've got great pins for showing off so yep - you keep getting them out.

Meanwhile, I will stick with the jeans.

  10. Oooh all this talk of jeans versus skirts.......My take is that skirts can work for me if:

    a. I wake up having a good day.
    b. I have a pair of unsnagged opaques, that don't do the Nora Batty droop!
    c. I have the right footwear........A/W wardrobe is 99% of the time boots, and sometimes they just don't work with a skirt.

And then I just think sod it.........get the jeans back on! xx

    1. I get it in my head that I will wear a skirt and then I take a look at the weather outside and pull out a pair of jeans instead. And it's also hard trying to break the habit of a lifetime. If I was working it would be different but honestly, trying to do tights is just hard work. And if I get tiny clicks on them - it's the death knell for them. Years ago, I used to be a pair of tights a day literally. Many didn't get a second chance from me.

  11. What a gorgeous jumper Sue, sometime I find sweatshirts a little too plain so the pattern on this is perfect! I have to say I love skirts almost as much as I love jeans, although I do think your more of a jean person. But skirts and tights are one of my favourite looks and I try to wear a skirt as much as possible!

    1. You're right Trea. This has just enough interest to take it out of boring territory but plain enough for me still to be happy in it. And you're another good legs girl. You've got to work your best assets and if I had your legs, I'd be happily jumping round in a mini skirt (tights or no tights).

  12. how has this by-passed me? I haven't seen it before and I like it... Im still loving my Reiss quilt sweat which is similar, the colour is similar to this one; not that practical but it makes me feel kind of space aged if you know what I mean ;) x

    1. How has this passed you by? And you've done a bit of Whistles shopping recently too. I loved the Reiss sweatshirt you have and went to try it on but it did absolutely nothing for me. This one is cut a little different and doesn't overwhelm me. The white is a bit space agey isn't it? Cool.

  13. I hardly need to comment really, do I? Because you already know that I'll LOVE that sweatshirt for a myriad of reasons! (and good call on the skirt - it just looked all wrong .. & I mean that in the nicest way possible! To me you're the Queen of the Boyfriend Jean!)

    1. I know what you mean. I am a jeans girls through and through. Mainly out of laziness but it has become a bit of a uniform for me now and I don't even do all the coloured ones or anything to take it out of the ordinary. And Queen of the Boyfriend Jean? Marlene is a strong contender too.

  14. ahh those jeans! bummed that they are skinnies, zara jean/trouser cuts never seem to suit me at all, if they fit my calves then it's usually too big in the waist. might pop in store and try them on though, the rips and distressing is spot on! love the textured white sweater too, i was looking for something similar earlier this year :)

    1. Stephanie, these are not skinny believe me. If they were I probably wouldn't be prancing about in them and they get looser as you wear them so they are really comfy - bet you'd fit them. And the sweater is very you actually - quite graphic. You in this with something black on the bottom and your black Zara ponyskin pumps - fab!

  16. I have been looking for a textured sweatshirt in a winter white and Whistles is the one place I didn't look!
With such a lovely design I don't think it needs a scarf or necklace either.

    1. I must have missed the H&M one - drat. But I do rather like the H&M sparkly Philip Lim lookalike you pointed out recently - I keep picking it up and then telling myself I don't do sparkles. But it still grabs me for some reason.

  18. I love the shape of this sweatshirt - the band looks like it isn't too tight so it sits really nicely instead of bunching up! I prefer them not too tight around the old bottom!

  19. Sue, I love the above looks!! I have been hunting for a similar looking white sweatshirt from Zara after seeing it in their lookbook..(to no avail anyway).
And why did you return the skirt???!! Love da legs! ;p
