Seche Vite Topcoat

Thursday 20 June 2013

If like me, you go to bed with your feet hanging out for fear of smudging your freshly done pedi, you need a bottle of this stuff. Seche Vite Top Coat. This stuff works. Nice sized brush, super quick drying times, lovely shine! I know - I've tested it!

As a long time user of Sally Hansen's Insta-dri top coat, this one beats it on super quick drying time. Hard in seconds.

Sounds a bit rude that doesn't it :o?

  1. We obviously think along the same lines Sue. I was just about to say 'ooo er!' Had to type it this way as predictive txt kept changing it to various other phrases. That aside I've just started using Sally Hansen and am impressed with the drying time so now will have to try this too. How is it for durability? :)

    1. I'm a long term user of Sally Hansen and still really rate it and it's almost half the price of the Seche Vite. I just think the Seche Vite is just that little bit quicker on the drying times - well in my touch test it seemed to be. I've had it on my toes for four days and no chips so far but I rarely wait till my varnish starts to chip. One thing I really dislike - when I see teenagers trying to peel their varnish off their nails. Looks so bad.

    1. I've not noticed it around but I saw it on the Bath&Unwind site where I buy the Grumps toiletries and thought I'd pop it in the basket too. I like it so definitely not unhappy with this little discovery.

  3. Oh thanks for that tip. Yes, I am one of those people who goes to bed with my feet hanging out for fear of smudging my pedi!!! Sad, isn't it?!

    1. Nothing worse than all that time spent on painting your toes to wake up in the morning with wrinkles on your polish is there. And it's really quite comforting to find out how many other people carry this out in real life. But I have to say I didn't do this late at night this time - I will try that next time and see what happens. But I think I will be alright - I was surprised at how quickly the topcoat set.

  4. I've not got on well with this....unless, I put it on after my polish has properly set. So I tend to do my pedi, sleep with feet hanging out and then in the morning, put on the Seche Vite. If it do it when the coats of polish haven't overnight dried, I find it tends to peel the whole lot off after a day or two (which is kind of cool and saves on nail polish remover!). I am clearly doing something wrong or have weird nails. Probably a bit of both :)

    1. Usually after you've done two coats of polish and you start on the topcoat, it seems to have set hard enough for the Seche Vite to take hold.

And I know that trick of using varnish to take off varnish as well. I do it in the department stores when I've been trying out polishes and they start to go hard but look a bit horrid, I just put another coat of varnish on and swipe the lot off with a tissue.

  5. I love seche vite, it lasts so much better than anything else I've tried and the gloss finish is very pretty. I am cursing the trend for matte nails atm, they look good, but aren't very practical. Try opi nail envy as a base coat too, its really, really good.

    1. I'm not doing the matte nails. Maybe it's a sign of age or anything but lovely glossy toe nails perfectly painted can be a thing of joy. Oh gosh - starting to worry about myself now.

I have the OPI nail envy - I use it on the finger nails mainly ... when I can be bothered. I find a lot of these products are quite multi-purpose usually.

  6. I vaguely remember my mom having a bottle of this stuff ages ago, but if memory serves it's kind of oily? And I think I was a bit turned off by that? Maybe I should give it another go...

    1. No - it didn't strike me as being oily. And do you know what - now that you've mentioned it - I don't think I can recall ever seeing my mother with her nails painted. Or with makeup for that matter. Maybe I have a bad memory. But at least I know who I got it from on the (lack of) makeup front.

  7. I NEED this - I am TERRIBLE at sitting still for more than 2 mins and I always RUIN my own nails - hence why I get them done at the salon now!!

    1. I'm too picky to get my nails done at a salon believe it or not. I've never had a successful manicure yet which I haven't taken off within the hour (circumstances permitting).

The Seche Vite has got to be worth a try though!

  8. Seche Vite is AWESOME, but alas, I'm allergic to one of the ingredients and can't wear it. I've been using one from Dior lately, which is good but quite pricey. Trying Essie's next, hoping it will work well :)

    1. Essie's 3 in 1 is really very good, its a close second to Seche Vite.

  9. I had been using this for ages and it is truely great for quick drying! But the other day someone told me that it's not that good to use it too often? Have you heard this? because I love it, but a bit cautious about how often i use it now.....dont want my toe nails to go green and fall off!! xx

    1. I've heard if used as directed, there's no problem i.e. don't go inhaling the stuff nilly willy but nothing which affects the nail directly. But the seche vite does contain a chemical which might be dangerous for pregnant ladies but it's a caution they put on the bottle. It's just that they have chosen to alert people to the problems which probably not a lot of other companies do.

  10. Thanks for the tip! I'm hopeless with my nails. I smudge them 9 times out of 10. I got to the point where I rarely paint them because of it so I'll give this a go. I think you've solved my problem

    Have a great weekend Sue.

    1. I don't do the fingers and I only do the toes. And I'm quite good until I do the big toe and it all goes to pot then. I usually have to do that one about three times before I'm happy unless I haven't wiped off the whole lot in a fit of disgust (has been known). But if you've spent the time, the Seche Vite is a good finishing touch.

Hope you have a lovely weekend Mandi. Wrap up warm in those lovely coats of yours!

  11. I have this on the go too as well as the base coat which is a weird white colour! It does dry super quick, but isn't as hard wearing as I hoped :( I think my all time fav has to be the Orly 3 in 1 still . Having said that Ive not painted my finger nails for a whole month - trying to give them time to recover from years of nail polish !!

    1. Oooh - mine is bearing up really well but it's a bit different when it's on the toes - it doesn't get the same level of hammer. Not tried the Orly yet. Or the Essie. Or the Butter London one. I'll get there.

  12. omg i've been using seche vite for YEARS. it's the absolute best and i cannot recommend it enough (actually probably have done so with my girlfriends) the only issue i've had so far with it is that it dries up quickly in the bottle too. but if you're invested in this pick up a bottle of seche thinner, it goes a loooong way and keeps it nice and fluid toward the end.
