School Summer Fair

Sunday 30 June 2013

Went down to the school summer fair today. I have to say, I toyed with the idea of a dress or a skirt but the wind was up a little and any excuse is an excuse for me not to wear either. I went for an old favourite instead. The Whistles chopped down dress top and jeans.

Whistles dress top, Gap Boyfriend Jeans, River Island Espadrilles, Tatty Bag (all old)

The old tatty bag came out for the express purpose of holding any junk that the boys might bring back with them. And the espadrilles were to hand so they went on the feet. They don't go with what I'm wearing but they are comfy and offer a little covered up protection from tickly grass (I'm one of those people who can't walk around in bare feet on grass - a little bit too close to bug life for my liking). Where possible, I also lay a plastic bag on the grass to sit on. The thought of real ants in pants makes me antsy (geddit)?

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the school fair this year - we had Maypole dancing, we had a dance team there to entertain, we had stalls and games aplenty to raise money for the school and what did my boys enjoy the most? Cupcake decorating. Who would have thought?

Just a few more sprinkles ....

Anyway, I made a friend whilst I was sat watching the entertainment. He seemed quite taken with me.

You looking at me???

And Ben took my picture ....

Pimms anyone?

Second time in a week with a drink. Crikey - you're going to start thinking I'm a bit of a lush!

Anyway, I've been racking my brains. We've had view from the loo, feet on the street, well my latest is lass on the grass. What do you think?

Lass on the grass.

No? Not working for you? I was pushing it a bit. Okay, I'll leave it at that. Hope you had a good weekend all!

    1. That's me! I'm not at one with nature at all. I try but fail on the whole.

    1. If I sit on the grass, I feel compelled to stare at the ground for ages until I see something move at which point I'm off. It's not very relaxing.

  4. I'd probably be doing the same if it were windy - living in Wellington has taught me how seldom I should wear a flippy style skirt or dress, if they're structured it's okay though!

Sounds like the fair was a hit - I went to one earlier this year and would you believe they had a paintball set up? All I could think is we never had anything like that when I was in school!

    1. There was actually a Nerf gun set up which little George was itching to have a go at. I have to say it did look fun. I might set up a tin can alley for George when it's his birthday party when it comes round. Hmm. A bunch of four year olds let loose with a Nerf gun. Run for the hills!!!

    1. I think it had just been clipped because I took a side profile shot of him as well and the top of his head is really tufty - a little bonkers looking even if I do say so myself.

  7. Oh, I love school fairs. The Boy has his later this month and I always end up being roped in to help. I'm afraid I love the feel of grass on my feet, it reminds me of summer as a child, running around in fields with my bff, no shoes, usually in a cossie and covered in bruises, scratches, stings and bites. But all worth it :-D

I love my espadrilles, they don't go with much, but are just too comfy.

Glad you had a good day!

    1. I have a pair of silver grey ones too which would have gone better but those are well trashed as I wore them to death two years ago when they were my shoes in favour. But I bought these at the same time as "spares" in a different colour way. When you like something - buy an extra.

I have helped out before but I have to say ... I'm not one of those great helper mother types - I've just not got that "nice to kids" gene in me.

  8. Love the look Sue! I think these Gap bf jeans fit you really well - which ones are they exactly - they have about a million different types as I found out :-) Today I'm wearing pretty much the same, straight leg blue jeans and Zara peasant blouse top. That little dog is hilarious and your Ben has real potential in the photography department :-)

    1. These boyfriend ones I picked up at a Gap Outlet at the beginning of the year so they're not online. They're a bit smarter and no rips or tears to be seen anywhere. Yup - the little dog was quite curious about me - can't think why. And didn't Ben do well - I'm in focus and it's a full shot!

I am still laughing at the dog with the serious over bite!

    1. See I'm not a dog person so I know nothing about overbites and stuff but two mentions from people and I'm starting to learn.

The shoes are looking a bit grubbier today - there was a lot of stamping on my feet by my two boys. Not intentionally though.
