Lace

Friday 3 May 2013

Last night's attire.

H&M Lace top, Gaimo Gold Espadrilles, H&M Boyfriend Jeans, Susie Ho Sample Bracelet

Night out with the girls for an Italian except we detoured along the way and ended up at a different Italian to the one planned. Just go with the flow. That includes the wine. All two glasses of it. Hic.

I was keeping it simple with the H&M cream lace top and some jeans. Wearing anything lacy is an event for me anyway so I felt I'd made some effort. Add the gold espadrilles and an old vintagey looking Jigsaw bag and I'm really pushing the boat out!

Old Jigsaw Bag

I quite like my H&M lacy top. I sized up in it so it didn't cling and it means it sits more comfortably over any layers I want to wear underneath. For going out and to make it a little more peekaboo looking, I put on a skin toned vest underneath.

Too laid back for you? Here's an alternative sweet and simple evening look ....

Jigsaw necklace (old), Jack Wills Black Jeans (old)

Add a nice jacket/blazer - good to go.

But for day, a thin cream top would make a good base layer and gives it a more casual look (plus it's warmer for the nesh amongst us). There doesn't seem to be any good reason why lace can't be worn as daywear really ....

Converse for me but swap shoes to suit your style .. ballet pumps? boots? sandals?

Versatile isn't it? For £19.99. It doesn't crease and even better, it comes in black too!

-------------------------------

Last Note :

  • I chopped the sleeves down on mine to make them bracelet length. So that I can show off my arm candy.
  • I chopped the length of the body down a fraction too - only because I'm short but I could have got away with not doing it. If I'd left it long, it would have been nice to use this as a base layer under a jumper and just have the lace showing as a hem detail.
  • I think I'm trying to say - it's good for tall people too!

    1. I don't normally go for something like this but I saw this on someone else's blog and I thought I'd give it a go. Sometimes, you've just got to try something different. And the bag - it's v.v.old.

    1. Hi Sharon. The price helps admittedly. It's certainly a fun piece for my wardrobe. And if I get bored, I can use it as a layering piece.

  3. That's a gorgeous top. It's one of those handy items to have as it can go with so many other things and if it doesn't crease, even better to take on holiday.

    1. Thank you Andrea. I'm not very adventurous admittedly - just jeans and a top. But it works for me :o)

    1. Hi Anne. I think I took about 6 inches off the sleeves - they were definitely on the long side for me! But probably perfect for most normal limbed people.

Hope you have a good weekend too!

  8. Lovely top Sue. I like H and M more and more lately. How did the golden shoes perform?

    1. They performed very well, thank you! But I literally hopped into a car, out of a car, walked 100 yards and did the same back. So they didn't have much of a road test really.

And I'm really liking H&M at the mo too.

    1. I'm not usually a lace person - sometimes it can go so wrong but I don't feel too in your face with this one - especially if you line it with a cream base underneath - it just looks like a fancy jumper then. I like the Guipure lace but not found one with the right fit for me or which hasn't sold out. I will keep looking but this is a good fun piece.

    1. Thanks Hollie. You could work this and add some edge to the looks in your own inimitable manner.

  11. I'm sure I've looked at this top in H&M (but in the black) - looks great on in I must say and I'm not an overly 'lacy' person. I'd have converse on too - cos that's just me! You are so brave wearing a cream top to eat Italian - I'd end up splashing something on it no doubt! :)

    1. I didn't even think about it being cream and the potential for tomato splashback. But I think I wasn't overly precious because it wasn't overly expensive. The black one is good too!

  12. Love the lace, but REALLY loving the gold espadrille. Out of the three outfits I'd be happiest with the Converse.

    1. Thanks Martha. I love the gold espadrilles but day to day, the Converse wins hands down.

  13. Oh, I'm usually pretty laid back (but still put together) when it comes to wearing things to go *out*. The lace top is a really good idea! Especially for those of us who tend to dress on the more casual side.

    1. I hate looking over dressed for some reason. I think I prefer to be underdressed than look too try hard. I'd never get a part on TOWIE.

  14. Looks fab, must get my lace top out and experiment.

Oh, I've never met anyone outside of Derbyshire who knows what 'nesh' means! My husband maintains its a word I made up!

    1. Well you're not alone - I know it and so does Jenny G above. I thought it was a made up word originally but have googled it and it is an official word.

  15. I generally steer clear of lace, but I really, really like this top. I may just have to go and see if it works on me in real life. Very cute outfit with the jeans and gold espadrilles. Me likey!!

    1. Well the lovely thing is you can wear this with something like a Uniqlo heat tech top or any slim fitting cream top underneath which your skin is not too adverse to.

Arrghh - you said "cute" again.

  16. Ha I think you might have figured out the key to my getting dressed -- "doesn't crease" is pretty essential since i don't own an iron/ironing board.. just a generally more efficient way to get dressed for anything under ten minutes?

When you say you chopped the sleeves did you actually cut it to length? love the lace idea, have a few lace tops and they're always good to throw on with something fairly casual. bummed still about lack of h&m here.

    1. It's a drip dry number which you don't have to do anything with! How perfect is that? But I can't believe you don't have an ironing board - what do you do? Do you have a hand held steamer?

And yes, I chopped the sleeves back - the lace is quite accommodating and allows you to hide all the bad stuff. I thought I'd have to hem properly but no - it's not necessary actually. Now I keep wondering how long it will last but it's gone one round in the washing machine so far with no adverse effects.

  17. I'm going to echo what Steph just said. Anything that does NOT crease is a winner in my book. You know what? The top looks almost Isabel Marant-esque from a few seasons back. I love how you wore it so differently. The top is feminine without being too girly.

    1. Well I really can't complain about it being a touch Marant'ish. It's a strangely easy to wear top which you wouldn't think for something lacy but it's pretty tough. And thank goodness, you didn't say "cute".
