"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman going for a night out must be in want of new shoes."  Susie So So  01.05.13.

I got a text yesterday reminding me that I was going out for a meal with L1 and L2 tomorrow night. For once, I have something to wear but for the first time in a long time, I have nothing to wear on my feet. I actually need some going out shoes. I stopped buying lovely high heeled shoes when I stopped working and once I had kids - well, that was practically the death knell for heels altogether. But in the last year, I've been getting my mojo back and I have found that wearing heels isn't that bad as long as you find the right kind of heels you can walk in. I appreciate that 4" is my limit in single soles (get me using fashion jargon) but any higher and I start doing the Leaning Tower of Pisa thing which is kind of funny but kills your calves and the soles of your feet. However, I have found that I can treat myself to a little bit of heel height comfortably if I have a little platform at the front to soften the blow - like my Carvela Krimble and my Primark sandals.

So my mission today was to see if I could find a pair of heeled comfortable shoes which I can wear on a night out. Mission impossible? Almost.

I found myself in TK Maxx. I just wanted to go somewhere different from the usual high street fare. I've seen all their offerings online and I just felt I needed to go off track which I did by going in TK Maxx. TK Maxx is a bit of a minefield and a bit of a jumble sale at times but there are some lovely pickings if you have a little time to have a nosey through. Put off by all the jumble? Have a read of Fiona's post (from Avenue 57) on how to shop in TK Maxx - she convinced me to give it another go. Infact, this is about the second time I've been in this year - the last time, I picked up a James Perse black tee (tipped off by Amber from Twentymumthing) for about £20 (similar ones in Selfridges going for £80) and this time I found the elusive going out shoes which are these gold leather espadrilles .....

Not available online. Random pair in my size found in store.
It was meant to be!

Gold leather espadrilles? What! No pointy heel thing going on? No pointy toe thing going on either? You're feeling a bit short changed because you thought I was going to serve you up some proper shoe porn - well sorry - wrong blog. I'm just buying shoes for my real life which I can really walk in and be happy in. Because believe me when I have pinched toes and sore heels, I am not a nice person to be around. I get mean. And miserable. And I will take it out on you. You have been warned.

Anyway, they are sort of going out shoes! They're gold and better than that - they are bronzey gold! Two metallics! And they are made of the softest leather ever. See! I even thought I'd show you by giving them a squidge :

10 out of 10 for squidge factor.

Anyway, I'm happy with my new going out shoes. And my feet are happy too. If they could talk, they would say "thank you".

"Thank you!"

It was my blog's first birthday yesterday and I just wanted to thank everyone for stopping by and helping me get here. Thank you all for the lovely comments and thank you just for reading. Hope I make it to next year!

  2. They are so cute and soooo you! (Although you probably hate the idea of the words 'cute' and 'you' being in the same sentence ... but you know what I mean) Love the colour and I'm a big fan of wedges. God bless TK Maxx!!!!

    1. Oh totally. I just tried out my shoes with what I want to wear and they totally bring up the outfit for me so I'm a very happy bunny now. The shoes are good - I love the fact that there is no toe cleavage too!

  6. They look great! My grandmother gave me some of her dancing shoes from the 1940/50s, they were new, gold and had a 3inch heel. I have worn them SO often. They are comfortable, look amazing and are GOLD! Who can beat gold? Love these as a summer version, may have to scout around TK this weekend!

    1. I like the sound of your gold shoes - especially since they are inherited.

And if you're going for a scout round TK Maxx - leave the kids at home!

  7. I like them Sue - I have a pair of gold wedges which come out now and again would you believe? I'm not very good with TK Maxx - I never seem to find anything and get irritated by all the jumble - my hubby seems to be able to pick stuff up though - he must have the knack - must check your link out! and Happy Blog Birthday - well done and here's to Year 2! x

PS What are you wearing for your night out then?

    1. I used to have a little rummage every now and then years ago before the boys came along and then totally stopped for the last 6-7 years. I just started having a go again this year and have been lucky on both occasions. It's very much trial and error and it really is a never know what might turn up kind of thing but Stella McCartney dresses and See by Chloe tops can be found!

      What did I wear - jeans :o)

    1. Hi and thanks for stopping past. You're obviously an espadrille lover. I love the fact that when you walk in espradilles, it's just so quiet. Makes me feel a bit of a stealth elf.

  9. How come I can never find ANYTHING at TK Maxx??!! You know I'm going to say that I love them simply because they have an ankle strap and a wedge. The combination of these 2 features are a winner. Well, in my eyes anyway :P

    1. Just luck that I found something I like in my size. It's usually something I like but not my size. What always surprises me is that they have quite a lot of shoes for small feet! Lots of size twos.
