I Declare Spring Officially Open for Business!

Monday 8 April 2013

It's a very English trait to talk about the weather. It becomes ingrained into your subconscious and you find yourself muttering to total strangers "ooh, turned out nice again!" or "oh, it's just dreadful all this rain we're having but it's good for the garden isn't it?". Anyway, this weekend, the weather has been good. We have had sunshine, there has been no rain and miracles of miracles, no snow either. Based on these very factors, I declare spring officially open for business! I'm ignoring the fact that we are still in single figure temperatures. Crack open the ballet pumps!

I sort of made an effort yesterday in that I wore a silk top as I was going out for lunch. This one is quite girly - check out the frilly details. Next thing you know, I'll be wearing fluffy pink jumpers (yes really).

H&M Jacket, Jack Wills Cheriton Blouse, H&M Jeans
Hobbs NW3 Hazel Bag, New Look Ballet Pumps

Teamed with the little WOC and a pair of nude ballet pumps, I felt positively spring like and ignored my cold feet and frozen to the core limbs. The fact that I had to borrow a coat later was not lost on me but hey ho, at least I tried.

So what's the weather like where you are? Spring sprung? Ballet pumps on? Dusting down the shorts? Or am I just getting ahead of myself here? Don't tell me - I know, I know! I'm getting ahead of myself!

  1. Well I'm glad it's lovely and spring-y where you are... It's still the rainy bit here. And now I've caught a cold on top of it so I am currently huddled on my couch wearing my father's old cashmere sweater that is ten sizes too big, drinking ginger tea, and catching up on crappy reality tv. The thought of heading outside (and without socks no less!) is just too much for me right now. But I'm glad that just across the way you guys are warming up! It'll get here soon I'm sure.

    1. I have to say it's been dry and sunny and .... cold. Does that make you feel better? And at least you probably get to recuperate in peace without two small people jumping on you when you are at your lowest. I can only dream of such a luxury when I get poorly. And I can imagine nothing better than a big old cashmere sweater to snuggle in apart from maybe a nice hot water bottle too? And a bit of online shopping?

  2. Great look Sue! I managed to wear a dress yesterday - yay! But with a thick cardi, coat and suede boots - we're not there just yet but on the right track if the forecasts are to be believed.

    1. A dress - you go girl! I've decided when I do a dress now, it's definitely with bare legs so it might be another couple of months yet unless we hit lucky and the sun deigns to shine upon us. But I'm sure we'll get there.

  3. You look great!
We are gearing up for Winter in my neck of the woods. I'm sort of ready for it, in that I'm excited that I'll be wearing boots again... Soon :)

    1. I was like that last September wanting to drag out the jumpers and boots but 6 months later, I've had enough. I just need a change and I need some sun to warm the bones!

  4. I like that blouse - understated frills? I didn't think they existed. Until single digit temperatures improve I'll be wearing boots and a massive scarf everywhere I go to stay warm, but I have been attempting lighter jackets. Anyway, you look lovely. What was it my Grandma used to say? You have to suffer to be beautiful!

    1. Yes, I guess they are understated frills. I sometimes go a bit girly and then I scare myself and have to go back to a failsafe sweatshirt or jumper - pretty much like what I've done today. And this suffering to be beautiful? It's overrated :o)

  5. Noooo....don't jinx the weather. The last time I declared that spring was finally here, it snowed!!!!!! I can't wear to take out my summer clothes. I'm sure some of them would've turned to dust now seeing that it was last century when I took them out of the drawers.

    1. I've just taken some of my summer tops out and laundered them. They are waiting patiently to be worn again. If nothing else and the temperatures don't improve, I'll bung a cardigan on!

  6. We had snow in intervals all weekend, proper Christmas-like snow, but it only lasted for about 30 minutes before it melted. I hear the pesky Oslo-dwellers will be seeing double-figure temperatures pretty soon, but I live on the wrong side of the country! My side, we have the most rain in all of northern Europe. I have no idea why I ever moved here.

    1. Oh that sounds a bit grim and miserable. You need to move ... to Oslo! Pronto. It will do wonders for you to have a bit of sun - it's certainly improved my mood the last few days. It's made the Easter hols almost tolerable ;o)

  7. OK, so now it's you and Avril and Claire that I have to declare completely bonkers!!! I totally understand the need for Springlike clothes .. I get the frilly blouse (no really, I do!!) BUT PUMPS??? You're crazy! I feel cold just thinking about it :)

  8. I love that blouse so much I had to stalk it on jackwills.com! Sadly no go. It's raining here... all the time and I'm still in fleece jackets and wool socks.

    1. Ah the blouse is last years stock and sold out quite quickly. But I confess ... this is the first time I've worn it. I don't like wearing new things straight away. I'm weird like that :o)

  9. Spring here! I managed to leave off my cardigan and everything. I've been eyeing up everything in my wardrobe and considering digging out my summeryer clothes. I've not succumbed to pumps yet, but give me time!
I love the blouse. Its very purty.

    1. It's actually felt like spring which is amazing considering two weeks ago, it snowed. I've been dusting down and laundering my summer clothes. After being stashed away for so long, they needed a refresh and I'm just itching to start wearing them again. The sandals can wait a bit longer though!

    2. Isn't it great? Almost like having a whole new wardrobe. I have a christening to go to at the weekend, and I've been trying on my pretty frocks and bright shoes like a woman posessed, won't be long til the sandals can come out to play!

  10. You made me giggle with all your weather talk - you are so right!! I also suspect Maja (comment above) is from my town too!! A beautiful, yet rainy Norwegian city. I managed one day in ballet pumps on Friday, then when the snow returned I gave up and went back to my boots. You do 'pretty' ruffles very well!

  11. I did my pumps also this weekend and loved it. Happy to mix and match with the ankle boots for the foreseeable as I think that we'll still need to chop and change but at least we can hold our heads high and say we trail-blazed the pump movement this spring! Yay - we are not afraid of cold ankles! Ax

    1. I just needed a change from the old socks and boots. I've been in them too long and I'm just so bored of them. I want to paint my toes and wear pretty sandals. Come on sun!

P.S. My toes were a tad cold. Boy was I glad to stick my Uggy slippers back on when I got home.

  12. Thinking back, I don't seem to do anything in between boots, and then straight to sandals/flipflops......how odd is that? Weather okish, but still in soft ankle boots! xx

    1. I was tough today. I dashed out in my ballet pumps again because (1) they were lying around and (2) I was in a rush to get the boys to swimming and didn't have time to mess with socks and boots.

You must have some inbetween shoes? Don't tell me you don't have a pair of ballet pumps lurking somewhere in your wardrobe?

  13. Love the frilly blouse, can't wait to see you in the pink fluffy jumper! So pleased to see ballet flats out at last. I'm desperate to do the blazer and pump look.

    1. It's not that fluffy. You'd be very disappointed if you saw it. I wouldn't say it was exactly pink fluff bunnies or anything. I'm actually wondering whether to pack it away now that the weather is looking up a bit.

Anyway, you can do the blazer and pump look this weekend - Sunday - 18 degrees apparently! Woo hoo!

  14. Here in the Pacific Northwest of the US we're of the weather-talking type too...I wonder if it's a trait of places with typically bad weather (I think we're quite similar to England, weather-wise). We had one weekend of shorts weather but now it's back to 50 and raining (sometimes pouring). Love your WOC...best Celine-inspired one I've seen and such a lovely color.

    1. I've been lucky up here then. Not seen a drop of rain since I don't know when. I've been out in pumps for 4 days on the trot even if its to get in the car to get to the shops but it all counts.

      Your time will come!

  16. That's a really pretty blouse Sue - I love girlier tops with jeans. The sunshine was so good this weekend - I even ventured into the garden in my jumper (no coat!). I have bought some new pumps recently but no chance of wearing them yet - I'm not quite there yet! x

    1. I'm a sucker for a pretty blouse I have to say. I was just going through some of my summer tops and there seems to be a lot of little blouses and what's more, they all look the same! Gah! How did I manage to do that? And what's worse - I'm still looking at the same type of things online. I never learn but at least I know I'm consistent.

It's warm here today but cooling down. Although we are on opposite seasons so I'll get to be jealous of you soon in your summer wear.
