Grey Gap Sweatshirt, Navy Zatchels Saddle Bag and Photo Bombing. Oh Yes and Scarves!

Sunday 28 April 2013

This is my new favourite thing to wear. This rather plain unassuming Gap grey sweatshirt. My favourite thing to wear is different from say a new favourite garment which appeals to me for it's aesthetics and gives me palpitations.

This new favourite sweatshirt has the classic v stitched detail at the neck, is a relaxed fit and the sleeves are not overly long. I only had to fold them over the once and they were designed so they could be folded over with no ugly internal seams showing. Full marks to the designer who remembered the people with short arms.

Gap Sunkissed Grey Sweatshirt, H&M (not very) Low Skinny Jeans

I've kind of lived in it since I got it - it's just one of those basic wardrobe staples that you find indispensable and that you should have got years back instead of messing around with weird tiger striped ones. But it's not very exciting is it? But real life is a bit like that - come on tell me - do you honestly walk round in 4" high heels every day and a silk blouse whilst cleaning the toilet? You do - I bow to your amazingness.

Anyway, can I introduce you to my navy Zatchels saddle bag? To celebrate their second birthday last weekend, Zatchels ran a 50% off promotion on their bags. Which meant there were no more excuses for just looking and not buying.

Zatchels Small Navy Saddle Bag

All very grey and blue - yes? A bit neither here nor there? Let's remedy that with a bit of colour? How about two colourful Power Rangers photo bombing my shoot then?

Small People - Not Available in store or online.

Shoo! Go away!

Anyway, back to business and another accessory to liven up the old sweatshirt - a crinkled cotton scarf from the H&M men's section.

My taste in scarves has changed somewhat over the last couple of years. I seem to have been moving away from the prettier floral/birds/butterfly type scarves and been moving to "plainer"and less feminine styles. I like the fact that the pattern is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese fan print.

I'm also liking this one (this might be in a wish basket somewhere :o)

I was particularly pleased to see some similar scarf designs by Kiriko which were mentioned on the Tomboy Style blog a few days ago. If I was particularly flush in the pennies department I would have one of their beautiful Boro (Japanese indigo) one of a kind scarves which uses vintage boro fabrics and are all hand stitched.

Have a look but they are selling out fast and though not a UK based company, they do ship internationally if you are looking for something different.

And then I thought, which jacket? The old marmite floral quilted granny number  .....

Jack Wills Floral Quilted Jacket (old)

or something a little more subdued? Told you I was moving away from the pretty stuff. But both work.

I was having an online discussion the other day with a few other bloggers about Zatchels and who had bought one in the promotion. Someone said they had a zingy apple green one and and I said I'd gone for lovely corporate navy. I toyed with the tan one for a while and even considered the pewter one but in the end, I went with the navy. I know what I'm doing - honest.

Oh and I was trying to do a close up of my bag when George insisted on Upchuck being included in the photo.

Hi.

Kids. They can't leave you alone can they?

------------------------------

Last Note :

  • The Gap sweatshirt is currently £14.99 in store in the sale but £24.95 online. Why?
  • The navy blue one is good too :o)   Not saying anything more except it would be rude not to get one right?

    1. Thank you about the navy. I was a little worried but I have been looking at navy saddle bags since I don't know when so I'm very happy with finding this little number - kind of blends in seamlessly in to the existing wardrobe.

And I will be expecting a neon yellow sweatshirt on your blog soon then?

    1. I thought I wasn't going to get one - it wouldn't take payment via paypal and I refused to do it by credit card when I had paypal funds from some recent Ebay sales. But I got there in the end - you've got to love a trier!

  3. That's a niiiicce bag! Good choice. And where did that quilted jacket appear from? Have we seen it before? So cute, really like it, and perfect with the bag!

    1. Now I didn't think it would be your kind of thing for some reason - you have somewhat more sophisticated tastes and I thought this might be a little twee for you. It's an old one from Jack Wills. I have featured it before but way back last July. http://susiesoso.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/favourite-friday-jack-wills-jacket.html

And the bag is cute ... and cheaper than a Mulberry.

  4. One of my girls has a Zatchels bag in bronze, they sure are a great buy and you did the right thing going for navy, it suits you and your style perfectly. I think the Gap sweatshirt is the perfect step up from the H&M one, I want one of these now! xx

    1. I love this sweatshirt - it's 100% cotton - so hopefully no pilling episodes which happened with my blue marl H&M one. A step up but not breaking the bank for such a good workhorse basic. Might have to go back for another? Eek.

  5. The gap sweatshirt really does look like a winner! So nice to find your ideal sweatshirt! And I love the swirly whirly scarf. It's the sort of stuff I'd live in as well. Cozy days ahead!

    1. The sweatshirt is lovely to wear and the fit is good for my frame. I love big slouchy sweatshirts but I do look kind of dumpy in them. I have visions of looking like Jennifer Beale in Flashdance but the reality is somewhat different. A lot different. And I'm loving the H&M men's scarves at the moment. Came home with another one today - I saw the one above but fell for another. Isn't that always the way?

  6. ah, I love your taste in jackets! This is my small obsession - the jackets! Also, I admire your choice to move away from pretty and floral scarves as I am moving in exactly the opposite direction, ha-ha-ha!

I wish I had now ... sorreeeee. I will next time I hear of an offer though.

Lilac - see, I'm just boring. I just do grey. No hope for me!

  13. Great sweatshirt Sue! But no more grey of anything for me, no more of anything anything actually.......Your satchel is perfect in navy! I feel the same about black being slightly too hard for Spring/Summer but navy or grey is fine. Tan is such a difficult colour to get right and everyone has a slightly different shade in mind.
Your boys are too cute! Wait, no only George right as they look about the same height? I'm easily confused :-)

    1. I just really fancied the navy - black didn't even enter in to it - I tell a lie, I did look briefly at the moc croc Grazia styled one but I went with the navy in the end. And you're right about the tan and I do need a tan (have lots of brown but not much tan) bag actually. I need another Zatchels sale to come along.

And that is George's little mate Alex. Mine's the red Power Ranger. Alex is the green. Both little terrors together.

  15. If I had that sweatshirt I would be living in it too! Must have told you that I love grey anyway - grey and navy seem to be part of my everyday uniform - hence I also like your bag. Love the Power Rangers - they've got their moves sorted haven't they? :)

    1. Really? You're another grey and navy fiend then Jenny? Cool. You should get one of these sweatshirts - very comfy but not fleece lined which means it's suitable going in to summer.

And the terrible two - I can't keep up with them. To be honest - I don't try. Their moves are far superior to mine.

  17. I think someone's also addicted that little V on a sweater! That's a fantastic buy on your bag from Zatchel. Happy belated birthday! Someone's really sneaky and didn't say a word about your birthday.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i too took advantage of the zatchells offer and went for the large pewter sadlle bag - really pleased with it and the offer was fantastic, handsfree is a must with my 2 small boys - although i went for the large - its structured so can't cram my usual stuff in it but then that's not a bag thing as ususally so much rubbish lurks in the bottom of my bags! how are you getting on with yours? navy is a great colour choice for spring!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The pewter one is next on my list then. Nearly all my bags are hands free these days - like you, I have two boys who seem to enjoy throwing everything in to my bag when we go out. I'm starting to walk a bit lopsided now - a Kindle and an iPad gets a bit heavy - it was slightly better when it was just two Nintendo ds's but only just.

I'm getting on fine - it's more for days without the boys ... and I am getting used to having to undo the buckle. I would have preferred it to be a faux magnetic fastening but that's just me being lazy and practical.

      Delete
    2. thanks for the reply and i totally agree and thought a magnetic fastening would be so much easier - Zatchells take note! like you its for days without masses of clutter to take out but overall i love it and with 50% off at the time of purchase it was a fab price for a real leather bag :-) ps just found your blog and its great and enjoy reading it as similar to my style and lifestyle as mummy with 2 boys in tow!

  19. The Zachels look like the APC saddle bag! Or maybe it's the other way around? Anyway, great bag and it's navy, one of my favorite color. It's very classic but less boring than black. Great choice!
Oh and couldn't agree more on the scarves selection. Somehow I find them more cute than the printed girly stuff which are proliferating during spring/summer.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are definite similarities in the styling but I have to say the Zatchels is more in my price range much as I love the APC ones. I think I must be having a love affair with navy as well at the moment - I fell out of love with it in 2001 as it wasn't very happening at the time (never mind what they say about classic colours - navy was not in in 2001) and I remember returning a bag which was bought for me because it was navy. Now - I wish I'd kept it.

And I don't think I've ever seen you in a floral scarf come to think of it :o?

    1. Ah but you have your Massimo Dutti bag and that is very similar in styling too. And the spotty fan patterned one that I have reminds me a little of the Margaret Howell scarves - she has a thing for navy spotty scarves and don't you have one?

  24. i LOVE that satchel, somehow getting it in navy would never have crossed my mind but it just looks so perfect in that colour. huge fan of fan prints too, must somehow try to get my hands on that scarf. just wow! i asked my mum to get me some fabric with a similar when she was in japan recently but the texture of the fabric she came back with was really stiff and totally unsuitable for the scarf i was going to make.. bummer! ended up as a table runner though :)

  29. Can I ask a question. Did you go for the normal length strap or the shorter strap on your zatchel saddle bag? I'm about to buy one but was wondering if the shorter strap might be better since I'm 5'2" but the zatchel website doesn't say how long the shorter strap is annoyingly.

Been lurking on your blog for a while BTW, I really love your style.
