Zara Jacket Three - The White Jacquard Cardi one.

Tuesday 26 March 2013

Okay - ding ding - round three. The last Zara jacket in the series is this one :

Not quite what you were expecting was it? I bought this jacket the day after it hit the website.  Probably about two to three weeks ago. I just knew I liked this jacket. Just like I knew I liked all the other jackets but this one is a definite keeper .... I think.

Zara Scarf, Aubin & Wills Jumper, Jack Wills Jeans, H&M Shoes

Rather unassuming isn't it? Easy to pass by without so much as a second look? There's no floral patterns, no biker details, no Marant'ish braid detailing. Nothing that much to tickle you but I love it for all the things it isn't.  I know I said I loved the other ones too but honestly, I love this one ... the most.

So no great shakes here and you must have the measure of me by now and what I like to wear. I'm just going to wear it with a tee and jeans. Because that's the look I like and that's the look I'm comfortable with.

River Island Necklace, Splendid Tee, Dorothy Perkins Belt, Jack Wills Jeans, Zara Sandals

Mixed all my metals here but I don't mind. Hope you don't.

As you can tell, this is not a school run jacket. No no no! This is not a daytime jacket with the kids. No no no! This is a grown up going out in the evening jacket when there are no small people near to touch the divine whiteness.

I've wanted a white/ivory jacket for a while now but this is the first one that fits how I like and is relaxed and comfortable enough for me not to feel too stuffy in it. Oh yes and the sleeves are not tight like the previous two jackets ... and I had to size down. Bonus.

And white goes with everything doesn't it? Just like black goes with everything but a white jacket does feel kind of fresher and more appropriate for the lighter days.

James Perse Tee, New Look Jeans, Krimble Sandals

Why wear 1 bracelet when you can wear 4? All my own designs.

If I had a pound for every time I wore a pair of ripped jeans and the Krimble sandals, I would have myself a nice new Longchamp bag by now!

And just to throw a curveball - how about a dress with the jacket?

H&M Jersey dress, Monsoon Belt, Susie Ho bracelet

I'm just off to a meeting to discuss the latest edition of Vogue!

Sorry that the photos were a little hazy at this point - this was late in the afternoon when the sun (yes sun) was slowly ebbing away as I was frantically trying to get a few last shots for the post. But I'm kind of glad because you won't be able to see too clearly my cheap and cheerful £7 black jersey H&M (not Lang or Wang) dress used soley for the purpose of saying - look you can wear this jacket with a dress! I spent a lot of last summer in this dress. If you lose the jacket and shoes, keep the belt and stick on some flip flops - you are holiday ready.

So I think I'm finally done with Zara jackets for this season and you're probably tired of seeing them too. We had the red floral biker, the blue Marant'ish one and now this white number.

Do you have a favourite out of the three? Mine is the white one. As if you hadn't guessed.

  1. Hi Sue! Great minds think alike, I've just posted my latest white jacket purchase too. Love your Zara one, it certainly looks very versatile and stylish to go with a lot in your wardrobe and yes I think it should be a keeper!

    1. Feels very grown up with the dress doesn't it? It's funny to think that if I was in the workplace and it required it, I might be wearing something like this. See - I'm not always a scruff :o)

  3. The white is so versatile.

I'm cursing Zara, though, and their teensy sizing. I tried the red moto after your post (in a large) and I looked like a giant trying on dwarf clothing. I'm American and all, and we do like a little vanity sizing, but really! :)

    1. Oh no - the sizing is a bit mean - I was thinking it rules out a lot of people who want to wear Zara and can't because their sizes are so limiting. The good thing about this one, it's cut a little looser and so much more comfy than the blue one and the red one. And comfort speaks volumes doesn't it?

  4. Very sharp, and it does look lovely on you. Have to say though, compared to your new A Wang jacket, this doesn't do all that much for me. I know, why would I compare them? Apples and oranges, right? But just since you've been doing quite a few jackets lately, I can't help it. I also have an aversion to white, while I love the way it looks, I am cursed and will inevitably and immediately spill something on it the first day I wear it. And that's without little grubby hands around me! Still, that said, it does look lovely, and fits you super well. I'm just still thinking about the other one (a little bit jealously, I admit it)...

    1. It's a matter of taste. Having been through a lot of your blog - I'm getting a better sense of what you like - you like more masculine tailoring (me too) but sometimes, I can go the other way too. Variety being the spice of life and all that which also means it's very hard for me to subscribe to any particular look. I've not had a white jacket since I had a white linen blazer years ago and I was scarred by the fact that someone said it was very "Miami Vice". I ebayed it pretty pronto but time is a great healer and here I am trying again. To be honest, I'm pretty rubbish with white and the only time I threw caution to the wind wearing my favourite white Aubin & Wills top - sods law - I got pizza sauce on it! But a very diluted solution of bleach and an artists paintbrush soon remedied that (just so you know if you should ever feel the need to wear a white jacket).

  5. Susie I am so close to adding that jacket to cart - I like the fact that the texture is a subtle detail on an otherwise well cut jacket, and of course, it's white. Something I also seem to really like. It looks gorgeous with jeans and equally as good worn with the dress. And yes, my favourite of the three! x

    2. Just thought I would say that I finally took the plunge and purchased this online. I normally get a S so I stuck with that - I'm about 5'8" so I'm hoping that it won't be too big! Otherwise.. the tailors it will be I suppose :)

      Delete
    3. Oh I'm pleased - you will look gorgeous in it. I'm inclined to think that you would be better suited to the XS though - might be worth trying before it goes anywhere near the tailors. Will look forward to seeing you in it.

  8. Perfect - I love unfussy clothes. I go for simple jackets too, although I now have my eye on a yellow and grey marl one from Baukjen - I blame Style at Every Age for that addiction!! I also now need your scarf - please tell me this is still available and not something you have kept for years and are just revealing to tempt us now?! The colours are so lovely .

    1. Ah the scarf. This is my favourite scarf. I never tire of this one and though I have worn it in the past year - I've just not featured it on here before. I'm afraid this is about 3 years old. A little more expensive than their regular scarves at the time but I thought it was worth it. It's the thin almost neon yellow stripe which makes it. Any other colour and I don't think it would have called out to me but yellow being my second favourite colour and all that - how could I resist?

  9. That's a great white jacket - so versatile and as you have shown you can dress it up or down. I love clothes that you can wear over and over rather than just taking up wardrobe space.

  10. OK, that's lovely! I have a white Zara jacket also (the military, Chanel-esque style) and I've worn it to death. It's a great colour to have and can be worn year round which is a big bonus. So yeah, as much as I adored the red floral one (you couldn't get both??), I think this is probably the best buy and it looks really good on you. (See? This is the Susie So So I know ... are you seriously telling me you're still thinking of the pink 'Madame' sweatshirt???!!!)

  12. I actually really really like this jacket ( not generally keen on quilted jacket as a result of childhood trauma!!) I'm so keen, I'm off to have a look. What is wrong with the Zara models though? So bleeding miserable, you model it so much better. Is it washable?( boring question I know). I love your bracelets....I'm a big fan if layered bracelets. Nice

    1. If it helps - it's not padded or quilted - it's a jacquard weave! And I've checked - its dry clean. But that's never stopped me buying anything previously and I chuck everything in to the washing machine.

I love the look of layered bracelets - I see them on so many people all the time and I thought, why am I not doing this???

Yes - I'm glad I've found the one - I was getting a bit sick of doing Zara returns!

Glad you like the dress combo - that one was for you. The jacket is a size small. I took one look at it and it just looked right in the small. I'm usually a size 10 (medium in Zara) but this is comfortable and the "cropped but not cropped sleeves on me" are a bonus.

    1. Thank you Sue. I think that's the general consensus across the board with the Zara models this season but strangely enough, they don't bother me too much. I've been on the site so often, I don't even notice the somewhat "frozen" expressions. I think it's a styling ploy - trying to make it look more high end and polished - but seems to have backfired with all the complaints I've seen around about the models.

They've probably been told not to jump around and pull a few moves like I'm allowed to ;o)

    1. Thanks Trea. I just spotted that they've done another white jacket in a similar fabric but a little more casual depending on what you are after. I wasn't quite ready for a white blazer but this one is nice and easy to style. You should get one!

  27. oh Sue, I can't wait to wear my damn krimbles again!
This jacket is definitely the one. You know it, I know it, we all know it! It reminds me of my white cropped jacket from Zara (last summer) which (like the poor krimbles) ain't seen the light of day for over 7 months. I particularly love the outfit with the Splendid tee and the necklace.

As for Zara, I haven't been too pleased with anything they've released for a while now, apart from this blazer and the denim quilt style one you featured a few posts back. Everything seems to have turned a bit boxy....I don't know, and the dresses are so odd, or maybe it's the styling......uurgh, I'm just not as smitten.

    Still missing aubin&wills too:(

    1. I don't think the styling is quite right for you this season in Zara - it's a bit loose (big) but harder edged. You look much nicer in your softer styled clothes. I always find that if I've visited your Tumblr, I start looking at prettier clothes - heck I've been looking at guipure lace blouses this week! I think after the initial spate of jackets, everything has calmed down on the Zara front for me now but they have something new in every two days - I can't keep up.

And yes - I think I hit the right jacket this time. It fits so much better and I don't feel like I need to try as hard with it because it's a lot more versatile. I'm just really hoping for a spate of warmer weather - I'm chomping at the bit to get my sandals out.

I miss Aubin & Wills a lot too. Have you found anyone to fill the gap?

I haven't been in to white jackets for about 15 years so this one took me a little by surprise but I think it's either an age thing or I'm just retaliating against the sea of black and grey I have been submerged in for the last few months. 32. Wow, I saw a very similar jacket at h&m today!

Your Zara suits you great! The texture/cut sounds sweet and grown-up.
I like how you're trying outfit options. I also do that sometimes. Best way to know if it's a go or not.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The texture is what drew me. It just makes it easier to wear than if it had been a kind of white cotton which would probably end up looking creased and crumpled. But this one seems pretty crease resistant - another plus in it's favour. I don't always try outfit options - I usually have a fixed idea of how I'm going to wear something so it's good for me to challenge myself and create more than one look.
