Trending! Blankets.

Sunday 24 March 2013

A more weather appropriate post today.

Garance Dore says blankets are trending. Honest - she does! But she does also mention clothes which are inspired by blankets so you don't have to take it so literally and take the blanket off your bed and wrap it around your good self (but you can do if you want - your choice).

Mulling this over in my little head - I thought I have something like this (a little little bit - squint hard and use lots of imagination).

Almost identical (when viewed with a glass of wine in hand)

I saw this on a school mom two years ago and hunted one down and never wore it. And then I dug it out recently to Ebay and saw the Garance video. And do you know what? I'm going to sit on my sofa at night in this and be all snuggly and give George his Ben 10 fleece blanket back ....

----- or then again I might Ebay it :o). I'm not really all that "trending".

  1. I actually LOVE your version! It is quirky cool. But then I live in the land of looong winters with log fires and blankets on the sofa for weeks on end:)

    1. I can see this working perfectly for you over there actually. This was one of those things I saw on someone else, loved it but I just didn't feel like me in it once I got it. The colours are lovely though - I do actually have a blanket in these colours - I should have just worn that.

  2. Haha, I have a blanket wrap shawl like that in black wool! I don't wear it as much as I should, but I love it nonetheless. Perfect for those times where spring/summer nights get a bit chilly, or to throw on for a quick errand in early fall! Yeah, you know you live in Scandinavia when wool blanket wraps are a spring/summer thing.. ;)

    1. Not just in Scandinavia - you must have heard how terrible our weather is proving this year so far and there's more to come this week. I am so over winter.

  3. I love it on you! It makes such a nice change from coats and jackets plus it can used during awkward in between seasons when it's sunny but freezing cold. I've been looking for a cape for years but they always overwhelm me so I really like your version.

    1. I like the look of capes and was tempted by one when I was pregnant with Ben - I thought I could hide the bump underneath it but then found that I couldn't carry a bag on my shoulder wearing it so the practical side took over and I returned it. I suppose the good thing about this one is that I can stick a bag on underneath the wrap though! Mine comes to a point near my knees at the back so I feel it is just a touch longer than I am comfortable with. Ah well.

    1. I might .... but I would have to change the cheap buttons on it first. Then we'll see. It's a shame to waste it.

    1. It is sooo cold today - I was supposed to take the boys on an Easter trail and I bottled it. I was in such a bad mood about having to go out and freeze my extremities off that I just thought "stuff it" and then I was a much happier bunny for it. And what the boys weren't told, they couldn't complain about.

I even dragged the Uggs out. They've taken a bit of a backseat this year but today was a good day for them.

  7. Love your boots :). I'm all in favour of comfort dressing and this looks chic at the same time!

    1. Thank you Sara - you are a girl after my own heart then. I LOVE comfort dressing. Good thing I don't post some of my more dodgy home get ups - the Grumps could tell you a thing or two. But one thing for sure - I'm comfy.

  8. I. LOVE. your blanket poncho-shawl-throw thingy. Love it. Can't believe you don't wear it. I am totally into anything that's a day-time snuggie including ponchos.

    1. Yup - I don't know what it is either but you can call it what you like. I should get some wear out of it really - it's wasted sitting in a box.

Who knows - it might come out to play another day.

    1. I tried to get my little one to take a picture of me outside in it but it was too baltic. This is kind of snuggly but not baltic snuggly.

  10. Really like this too Sue and I'm a massive poncho hater usually. I would definitely keep it for the foreseeable future, spring is nowhere to be seen!

    1. Thanks Trea and don't tell Avril and Fiona that you don't like ponchos! I had a poncho till just recently which I just sold to a friend. It was actually quite a smart almost military styled one but I wore it the once and that was it. So my friend took it on. I guess I'm not great with these kind of things. Once i change the buttons, I might like it more.

  11. Lovely :-D it does look very cool.

I was going to buy a poncho, but you have to be cool to pull them off.

    2. Thanks - the boots are definitel snuggly and snug. They are a challenging fit if you have big calves. I'm pretty average but I heard lots of reports complaining how tight they were (including my friend who wanted a pair but couldn't get her foot in them even).

Glad you like the blanket. I'm not 100% sure the lady is for turning just yet.

    1. It's not a very me item - I thought it was but it was something I liked on someone else and once I chased it down, the thrill had gone. Does that not happen to you?

  14. Love the blanket...great interpretation, at this rate I think you could still be wearing it in August!! xx

    1. Another cold day but at least it's stopped snowing and started melting. If I ignore the sub zero temperatures, the snow/ice on the floor and use a bit of imagination - it looks almost springlike outside ...... almost.

  18. LOLOLOL! The stuff that's trending really mystifies me. I love Garance Dore's sense of humor. She's involved in the fashion world but still has her feet planted firmly on the ground.

    1. She has got a great sense of humour in that she doesn't take things too literally and can laugh at fashion. My kind of girl. If only I was half as stylish. Her wardrobe is to die for (I read an article on it some years back and didn't realise who she was then).

  19. Haha I like the fact that a blanket wrap is something of a fashion trend, the appeal lies in the fact that I could go out with a blanket covering my shoulders and say it's fashion! Funniness aside, it's definitely practical, and when done right, looks very chic. I like your version with the buttons, seems more like a cape than a blanket wrap! x

    1. The pictures of the men I've seen adopting this trend makes me giggle a little. They are ten times more flamboyant than the women. It is kind of practical and slightly better than a cape in that I can hang a handbag underneath it - you can't do that with a cape. Soon be cape weather where you are?

  20. Don't you love when 'trending' is practical! Ha ha.. finally something that does what's it's meant to do rather than just being a token feature piece. It looks so cosy and warm.

    1. Ah "trending". I remember when I was watching the Garance video and I was half thinking well at least it's appropriate for the weather even if the crippling high shoes weren't. It's kind of cosy and warm but I actually prefer Ben's blanket (I'm a lost cause).

    1. I have resorted to a blanket on my knees on the really cold nights. No sartorial elegance about that at all. Eek.

  22. I think it's far more sensible to look at warm layers like these than all the pretty spring pastels as it so freezing cold. I've just had a few days away in the sun and I need all the blankets I can find!!
