Spring has Sprung in a Splendid Shirt

Tuesday 5 March 2013

Did you like the alliteration in the title? I'm quite proud of myself that I even remembered what alliteration was from the old English Lit days.

Well we had a couple of days of sunshine - what can I say? It's absolutely lurrvely. It just makes you feel so much better, puts a smile on your face, makes you ditch the grey clothes and put on something like this :

I featured this little Splendid shirt in a previous post where I had a go at putting together some summer outfits. I was thinking of warm days and summer sandals and bare legs when I did the post ... a little premature maybe.

Just looking at the pictures - this shirt really screams summer days doesn't it? The sleeves have tabs on them but unfortunately the tabs are stitched down which means ironing is a booger and it's hard to do nice turn ups. So me being me, I don't bother with trying to turn them up and just let them drape instead. Like those funny Austrian blind things.

Where's there's a will, there's a way.

Like I said, sandals weather it is not so I've socked up and worn some ankle boots.

The Converse are having a day off (my feet).

And I've stuck a nice sensible navy cable knit cardi on because (1) it's sunny but it's not that warm and (2) it's what I'd tell my daughter to do if I had one.

Mango Navy Cardigan (AW2012)

And because it's such a nice day for taking photos, let's do a little fashion. Let's wear the cardigan on the shoulders instead like a serious fashonista would.

Minimal arm movement required for this look which means you can't do the ironing!

Oh dear - to echo Marlene from Chocolate, Cookies and Candies, if I were a stylist, I'd sack myself. High fashion this is not. Everyday wearable this is.

So do tell - what silly things have you done or do in the name of fashion? And is your wardrobe starting to feel a little more springlike?

    1. You're right - I was thinking the same thing actually. The darker tones make it easy to pair with navy which makes it look a little "heavier" for early spring. Come summer, take the cardi off and lose the boots for some flip flops and you're good to go.

    1. Now I really would have thought you would have some prints squirrelled away in the back of your wardrobe. You probably need that Paul Smith floral shirt from the York Outlet that I mentioned :o)

  4. What silly things have I done in the name of fashion?? Well ... where do I begin?! Worn heels so high that I could barely walk & had to cling to the OH for support ... almost caught pneumonia because a coat would ruin the look of my outfit ... practically gasped for breath because my 'suck-it-all-in' spanx-type body was just a little too effective ... and that's just in the last year, lol! As a teen of the 80s, I won't even begin to go into the fashion crimes I committed then (oh, but I did have a black & gold headband just like Olivia Newton John :) )

    1. Ooh now you're talking. Have you done that one when bodies were all the rage but were a nightmare to fasten? I thought they were brilliant if you put your tights on first and then fastened your body up over them - and ta dah - no more tights falling down to your crotch!

I have to say - I never did the headband thing but I did wear over the knee socks when I wasn't at school over the age of 16 - eek!

    2. You didn't?? Britney Spears, eat your heart out!!!!! Yep, did the bodies (clever if slightly euugh trick with the tights - never thought of that) Thank God, I didn't drink back then - no idea how you'd tie those fasteners after a few bevvies :)

    3. Well I have to say the bodies were not very comfy - Donna Karan has a lot to answer for and I can't believe they're back in fashion again. Been there the first time, not doing it again. Err too much info but panty liners are great for holidays and weird fashion. You heard it here first ;o)

    1. The sun makes such a difference doesn't it? Just makes everything feel that little bit nicer. And yes - some pieces can just lift your mood like that.

    1. Yes all is well. Where have you been? I keep noseying on your tumblr but still haven't worked out how to use it. So no comments from me at the moment. Stay in touch and take care!

  7. I love love love everything - gorgeous! :) the weather is so good right now isn't it? It was frosty here today but also sunny and very crisp and fresh. Definitely starting to feel like spring :D

Silly things in the name of fashion -- stretched my earlobe when I was 13; absolutely, totally regret it (what was I thinking?!). Wearing incredibly high heels on a night out, falling over, twisting my ankle, and having a limp for about a month afterwards...!! so silly! x

    1. Yes it's been lovely to have the sun out and shining. But it is still a wee bit nippy.

I used to wear the high heels on a night out - how I did it, I do not know but I do remember not being able to walk to the taxi rank at the end of the night, the soles of my feet hurt that much. If I recall correctly, I may have been given a piggy back :o) but I looked good until then.

  8. I went bare legged with open toe shoes on Saturday night - oh and Regent Street had burst a water pipe and was flooded so I was cold and wet!! I love that floral print, have a very similar Topshop dress in that print. The sun makes such a difference doesn't it. I sat with it beaming on my face for about 5 seconds before I got the 'Muuummmm' shout, but it did make me feel brighter.x

    1. There is something lovely about sitting in a pool of sunlight as it warms your back or your face. It just feels good.

Oh and you were brave with your bare legs - it's still early Spring. Brrr.

  9. So it gets sunny when I leave?? Sods law!! I was jumping off a rock in my garden this morning in front of a camera - does that count? The neighbors will be calling them to take me away soon....xx LOVE the shirt - much better with the sleeves draped - looks like you just don't care - far cooler:)

    1. Yup it got sunny but I didn't say it got that much warmer. It's about 8 degrees but a crisp 8 degrees. Still need a coat!

Jumping off rocks which might have snakes lurking underneath certainly counts. The Grumps made me do star jumps for the camera the other time when I asked him to take some photos. I haven't shared obvioulsy.

  11. Ooooh....you're doing the jacket/cardy on shoulder thang, sistah. I dare you do wear it just like that on school runs :P Love your floral Splendid shirt. I normally hate floral prints but yours is beautiful and the colors are gorgeous.

    1. You're on sistah! I will do it on my school run ... when it gets warmer. For about 2 mins until I get thrown some school bags, lunch bag, P.E. kit and coats at me and I fail miserably to hold it all together.

I think I have a soft spot for florals but as with anything they have to be right ones. This Splendid one has just enough about it to make it stand out a bit (in my eyes anyway).

  12. Lovely blouse - very Springlike and the print is subtle enough for specs (can't do big patterns and specs on - feels too much on me - is it just me?). I am so nesh though I couldn't do without the cardigan (by the way I have a cardigan on my shoulders practically all the time - is it a bad thing?). Silly things in the name of fashion - when I was young I've almost frozen in the thinnest of thin dresses in midwinter without a coat waiting for taxis and walked in ice and snow in platform boots...! Such a shame the weather has turned - even I was looking beyond the grey stuff - now it's all back out! x

    1. Aah - I've never thought of the print clash and too much going on when you wear glasses. But I read it somewhere else as well so you may have a point there.

Oh good - thought it was just me who used the word nesh or is it just us northerners? I am incredibly nesh - I am a heat seeker. Find radiator - will park myself next to it. Why I'm living in this country is beyond me.

  13. A great signature look! I really like how the pretty blouse has vibrant colours. It looks really good on you. I have to avoid such prints on clothing but on scarves, it's ok. I tried the fashion thing of carry my fairly large shoulder bag as a clutch with the straps hanging down a la Mrs Beckham - it didn't make me look slimmer and of course I couldn't do much with my one free hand lol!

    1. I was talking to my sister today as she had a new bag to show me and we had a go at carrying it VB style. Not practical in the least - isn't that why bags have handles? And the bigger the bag - just makes me look a hitch :o)
