Sequins, New Year and Kristina

Monday 31 December 2012

It's New Years Eve and today is the last day of 2012 and it is also the last day of what I would regard as the party dressing up shenanigans. So I am going to end this year in sequinned glory. For Kristina.

I replied to one of Kristina's comments to say that I used to be called the Queen of Clash. Well what I ommitted to say was that Queen of Clash in my world is very different to hers. Queen of Clash in suburban terms means I rocked it up by putting on a scarf which didn't go with my top or I wore a brown belt with my black shoes. Anyway, Kristina keeps throwing me down these challenges of doing something different - a bit clashy, a bit fun. I had a long hard think and was about to walk away and pretend I hadn't seen the challenge but then I thought, lets give it a shot. What would Kristina wear? This is what I think Kristina would wear.

Jigsaw Sequin Shrug (old)
Topshop Boutique Tee (AW12)
New Look Jeans (old)
Nine West Bronze Sling Backs (old)

Shiny Shiny!

Yes - I have heels stashed away in the back of my wardrobe!

Based on this ....

It took me a while to come up with this because looking through the sea of grey and blue in my wardrobe - I thought this is not going to be very easy. Do I actually have anything which is interesting and quirky? No - not really. You see, Kristina has a bit of Brit cool look about her - very different to my quite safe, pared down dressing. I love seeing her outfit posts . Sometimes she wears a mad skirt, other times she goes a bit 70's. Sometimes she wears cherries on her toes or glittery Louboutins but always with her tongue firmly in cheek and with a devil may care attitude. Brilliant. Its why I like it. It's totally different to me. Go check her out on Kikisparlour.blogspot.co.uk. I had to dig deep in the dressing up boxes before I came up with the Jigsaw sequinned shrug - this is one of those items which just sits there waiting its turn and opportunity to take centre stage.

However ... bearing in mind that I cobbled this outfit up from my existing wardrobe ... maybe I've got a little more in common with Kristina than I think? Maybe there is a little bit of madness and badness in little ol' me?

So, what do you think? And Kristina - would you wear this :o?

And don't you think this is the perfect fun but comfy casual dressed up outfit for New Years Eve? I do!

Can I also just take a moment to thank you for spending some time with me this year and making me feel so welcome to this blogging community - it's been lovely meeting you all ... virtually!

And Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Lisa, thank you for commenting. Ooh me and skinny jeans - I'll try! I am wearing them more but I've not been able to photograph much with the lighting being so dire at the moment and when there is good lighting, I've been busy with the boys on mommy duty. I'm glad you enjoy the blog - thank you.

    1. Thank you Kitty. I'd like to say that I went out in this last night but I snuggled up in a big jumper and jeans and chilled out a friends where we all slummed it. But we felt all the better for it to be honest. I was in great company. Hope you have a fab 2013 too and look forward to more posts from you.

  6. Hi Susie.... :D
You know, I just came back from a CIRCUS themed NYE party. I'm sitting here perusing blogs and I am quite a bit merry...ahem.
And then I saw this. And it made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
I love your outfit and yes, I would wear it. :D
The shrug is right up my street.
And one more thing...did you just call me mad? lol :D

  7. The sequin shrug is lovely! I've always like a lil sequin in the outfit but I just don't know how to wear 'em. I feel so self conscious....like I'm a walking discotheque ball even if the sequin may not be alot. Hmm...

Totally not related to the post...but have you ever considered disabling the verification thingy whenever someone wants to post a comment? I know that's to deter spam but this thing is sometimes making me (and I suspect a handful of others) dread commenting on other people's blog even though I want to.

I often only get it right after a couple of tries (I swear I am not a robot. I probably just have some eyesight problem?) and sometimes if I fail, I give up commenting. Ok...it may be a user problem I guess.

    1. Melody - thanks so much for letting me know about the comment verification. I've disabled it now - I didn't even know it was on and I gave someone a hard time (in the nicest way) about their verification a while back and here I am guilty of the same. I never knew it was on but now that it's off - you comment away. You can't blame the old eyes anymore! Happy 2013 and stay stylish as ever!

  8. Wowzers! What a fab outfit Sue….loving it. Sequins in other colours than black are so lovely I think. And I can't believe you had those shoes buried at the back of your wardrobe….seriously!!??
Happy New Year…and my first resolution is to get a pair of boyfriend jeans - you have inspired me! Avril x

    1. Hi Avril - yes - I'm a closet magpie - I hide it well behind the grey jumpers and boyfriend jeans don't I? I've kept a couple of pairs of the old heels squirrelled away in the back of the wardrobe and they do come out every now and then when I think I can handle the pain for an occasion. And the boyfriend jeans - you need to get a pair definitely - you have those new Mango boots just calling out to be worn with them!

  9. I love the colour of that t shirt, especially with the jeans. Also can't believe that you have such lovely things banished to the dark recesses of your wardrobe! Really nice look. x

    1. That t shirt is a good buy - I love the colour as well. I have to banish such things to the back of the wardrobe - I would stand out like a sore thumb in the school playground in this get up unless I just pass for a mad woman.

  11. I LOVE boleros and all the better with sequins! This is a great look, you did very well. I've tried wearing heels like these with jeans but they just don't look good on me for some reason. I have one fav vintage sequin bolero bought decades ago in Covent Garden market and I've worn it almost to death so will have to see if it can be revived. 2013 will be my year for Maintenance!

    1. I think I'm going to have a more frugal year this year. Maybe it's because the new stock hasn't fully filtered in yet and there isn't that much to float my boat (which is good) but I'm looking forward to wearing what I already have. It's going to be a bit boring for anybody reading though when I turn up in the same outfit as last year (which is more than likely).
