Hello Again .....

Saturday 29 December 2012

.... and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. I have to say, I've actually enjoyed my little break from blogging over Christmas and I've been taking it easy just reading and catching up on everyone else's blogs late in the evenings before passing out with tiredness. However, the longer you leave it, the harder it is to find your mojo and get back in to the swing of things. Besides, I needed to get over the Christmas recycling affliction I came down with - you know the one where you meticulously strip the sellotape off the discarded torn bits of wrapping paper so the "good" paper can be recycled? I left no scrap unchecked! Anybody else go to this much trouble? No? It's just me then.

Anyway, I have a sordid confession to make - I have worn my joggy bots a lot this last week. But in my defense - I have not been out that much and I have eaten rather a lot. Pig goes pop springs to mind. But today I did get dressed. I didn't say I got dressed up. I just said I got dressed ... in something other than than joggy bots.

Zara Camouflage Scarf (not available online) & Whistles Edie Top (SS12)

I also seem to have rekindled a love with stripes this last week or so - the above is the Edie double faced top which I bought from Whistles way back in April and featured in my very first post on this blog. I also wore a Topshop stripy jumper with a gold collar trim on Christmas day and I received an Aubin & Wills Stripy jumper for Christmas. Yup - I can confirm - the stripes are definitely back in favour.

Anyway, amongst the other lovely pressies, I received, was my new Kindle Fire from the Grumps. And because I am daft, I've downloaded Vanity Fair by William Thackeray for my first book - a 900 page tome of a book. I last tackled it 20 years ago and got half way through and ... stopped. Aarrghgh. Now I think I might take another crack at it once I stop playing mahjong.

   Fun!                                                                Not so fun!

And you're probably wondering did I get the Kooples boots? No - I didn't. It's a long story. Having somehow managed to wangle an okay from the Grumps for the boots - I went in to the store the Thursday before Christmas to get them. It was a wet, horrid, miserable day. I was cold, I looked like a drowned rat and was not in a good humour. And my legs were having a fat day. No matter what angle I looked at them in the mirror, the legs were not behaving. The boots were lovely, the legs were not. I couldn't bring myself to buy them. Somehow, I think this also had something to do with the conversation I'd had with the Grumps where he said "If you get them, are you going to wear them?" He probably meant, am I going to stick them in my wardrobe for a year and get them out every three months to stroke them lovingly before putting them back in their box and wear them in 2014 or .... am I going to actually wear them? When did he turn into a woman? I dillied and dallied in the shop for about half an hour before I walked out but that was good because what I'd done was take a step back and tried to visualise myself in them and realised they were not a Sue boot and didn't go with much in my wardrobe. Don't get me wrong - they are still lovely boots but I'm no rock chick :o)

So a post to get me back in to blogging mode and the writing fingers tapping away again. Makes a change from the surfing fingers which have been flitting between numerous sale sites!

  1. Oh, I just replied to your comment on my blog, asking if you'd got back on the computer again and then I click through to see this! Yay! Looking great - LOVING that scarf. Lol at the wrapping paper thing…I am guilty of NOT doing that. Lazy mama that I am! Shame about the boots but it seems it wasn't meant to be this time round. Avx

    1. No - my PC is still not working. It switches on but the keyboard doesn't work. Only the mouse works on it now :o( So I've kind of taken over the Grumps laptop for the time being - thank goodness we have enough bits of technology floating around the house to keep us all going. The boots weren't meant to be this time but don't worry - already moved on - to some boots from Massimo Dutti with not a buckle in sight!

  2. Welcome back! What a lovely pressie to have - you will get lots of pleasure from that. I have downloaded the kindle app on my ipad, although the first book I got was one on blogging - oops.

    1. I think I've used the Kindle for everything so far apart from reading a book - I've pretty much treated it as I would an iPad. I think I need some more games though :o)

    1. You did not see my belly these last few days. Thank goodness for elastic. And it's true - some days, your legs look great and some days they look dreadful and I had a bad day in the Kooples but a good day the week previous yet wearing the same jeans - how can that be? It's probably all psychological but at least it saved some pennies. And yes - I'll try not to sit on the Kindle. I can see now why people like them.

  4. Hey Sue, hope you had a great Christmas, I'm a big stripe fan too. I have spent a lot of time lazing about too, but sure that's what the holidays are for!

    1. It certainly is - Christmas was the perfect excuse to just let everything go a bit and just chillax. Yes strange how the stripes have suddenly resurfaced - I must be tiring of the sea of grey that floats before my eyes every time I open the wardrobe doors and just fancy a change. I can sense Spring just round the corner!

  5. I hear you, so hard to get back into the swing of things after a break, huh? But still, I think we get to take a week off every now and then. I'm holding fast and not posting til I get back to spain next week. Sure is nice to just kick back and breathe and disconnect a bit. As for your boots, well, I do think that each and every one of us has a bit of rock chick inside somewhere, but if you're not feeling her too much right now you did the right thing. Maybe she needs to be coaxed out more gently with a cheaper pair? Something that puts a little less pressure on your inner rockstar? Just an idea... Either way, nice to have you back!

    1. Oh gosh it was hard getting back in to it. I already had a bit of a break just before Christmas with my PC going kaput so I was blogging less anyway and the Christmas festivities also means you're out of routine. I don't blame you for holding fast till you get back to Spain - just keep taking it easy. The boots - I'm fine with them. I'm now after a pair of slightly pointy Derby boots with a heel. As plain as plain can be - see I flit from one extreme to another so you never know whether one day I'm down in a mosh pit or the next day I'm floating around going "I feel pretty, oh so pretty!" But that's what makes fashion fun.

  6. I know how you feel, I have worn my jogging bottoms loads this week and was also beginning to lose my blogging mojo! I haven't been on FB since Xmas eve either but hope to resume normal service very soon! Hope you all had a good one xx

    1. No - I'm rubbish on FB on a good day anyway and it was good to take a break. Glad to hear that I was not alone in the joggy bot wearing camp. Come on - it's Christmas and it's behind closed doors - joggy bot sanctuary. Had a lovely Christmas - hope you did too.

  7. Hope you had a great time! You look great with the stripes and scarf! Erm..I think my bf jeans are going to be my substitute 'joggy bots', they are that comfy. I got a new pair for xmas and ordered 3 more in the sales oh dear...! Well done on your objectivity with the Kooples boots, I have my eye on the APC ankle boots which will get a lot of wear and need a camel/light brown pair.

    1. Oh my goodness - you've gone for the BF jeans big time but they are super comfy aren't they? I was actually trying to break out of wearing mine as I was wearing them in every single post but then again - at least it's what I actually wear rather than something for a blog post and then changing straight away afterwards. I am wearing more skinnies at the moment but that's only because I'm doing a lot of tucking in to boots so skinnies are essential for this. Hope you feel better too - you were a little under the weather over Christmas but credit to you - you carried on blogging! I would have shut up shop.

  8. It sounds like a wise decision re the boots - but I have exactly the same 'dilly dally' issues - sad;y often also have far less common sense / willpower! Happy new Year xx

    1. I am wise - who would have thought? Certainly not me. It wasn't really that difficult. The mirror was telling me bad things so I listened for a change though I did think long and hard. I love your shopping adventures - they are so similar to mine (except in the case of the Kooples boots)!

  9. I love the way you write ... it's so real damn it!

Well done for not buying the boots. It sounds as though they were not you. This has happened to me a lot lately. I see something in a catalog, daydream about buying it and visualise how I'm going to wear it, only to be shot down to earth when I see in the mirror that I do not look that good after finally trying it on. Now that I'm "poor" (not liquid), it takes a lot for me to part with the little disposable income that I do have.

Ps. I have saved all the ribbons, bows and gift bags from Christmas for next year ;)

    1. I'm quite proud of myself for taking a step back. I don't normally but it was a fiscal mistake I wasn't prepared to make this time. I'm often seduced by lovely images of other people wearing beautiful clothes and the reality of me in the same items is quite sobering. Works out cheaper but I have had a lot of dreams dashed consequently! I quite often save gift bags as well - they seem to go back and forth between my family. My family have even been known to give me them back for the following year :o)

    1. Melody - sorry to disappoint. I have no idea of how to play real mahjong but I'm getting very good at all the online mahjong tile matching games. I have much late night experience when not writing blog posts!

    2. I asked because I was kinda surprised you might/would know or enjoy playing since you are living in a western country. I am totally clueless on this. ;p
